Blue Im glad you see it and get it. This team will just get better and better as the next 3 weeks til March Madness unfolds. Cal’s uber young but uber talented team’s always do.
Having Oscar practicing with them starting tomorrow should toughen up Sarr some.

This year’s version of the Cayuts has an added wrinkle that has taken time to gel as well: 3 transfers that play significant minutes.

Our #5 SOS will take a bit of a hit because we are finally going to be playing some lesser teams of the SEC: Vandy, Texas AM and hopefully a make up with South Carolina. That should help this team that is still fighting hard to reap some benefits of their labors.

Lets all just hope and pray the SECT doesnt get voided due to covid and this could be a UK story for the ages!

And to answer your question I would be so excited that Id probably kiss total strangers, well maybe not, due to covid.
I would just be so happy for these players, Cal, UK, the state of Kentucky and all the “loyal” fans like yourself!

GBB!!!

a system that leaves zero margin for error is a ****** system no matter how you spin it. UK should never have to rely on winning the SECT to just make the tournament.

I agree! But what would you do if we won the title this year? Would you reevaluate? Hypothetical.

Remember it would put Cal on equal footing with all the most successful other coaches, for titles, since he came here.... and also with UCONN who did it with two different guys. That’s what would make me reevaluate.

first I would be elated if we won but no it would not make me re evaluate how cal runs the program. I can’t stand it regardless. I realize times have changed but michael “freaking” Jordan played college ball for 3 years and we get two years or less from the likes of Hagans, Whitney, Orton,, etc. I love being in contention when it matters but I also like watching quality basketball the majority of the season. If early season struggles was the anomaly it would be different but it’s the norm here and to be expected which I cannot stand.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit, Cal built a roster of multifaceted talent, they're just now starting to gel, if not for injuries they're likely undefeated. He has the shooters, athletes, great on the floor general and leader, deep bench, and he's a HOF Coach, all of the necessary intangibles. I expect them to make the Elite Eight, at minimal, more realistically, the Final Four. Cal's performance this year is nothing short of masterful, the players just weren't buying in, now they are and we saw firsthand yesterday the absolute devastation and havoc they wreaked on an amazing Auburn team.

I don't know how he does it, the man is a genius.

It would be the most incredible title run, not just in our history, but in NCAA history. That in and of itself would keep me smiling for a long time.

As a Bucs and Wildcats fan, it would make 2021 possibly the best sports year of my life.

Add Stoops Troops in the Playoffs...

Am I asking for too much?

I would be in shock and disbelief, then really happy until next season.

On the other hand, I absolutely would not want to go through this same process again. It's just too stressful and no fun. I am used to actually enjoying the whole season, not just the tournament.

THIS ! So why do the pumpers post such foolishness ? I'll never understand it.
I’m a pumper because I think it’s an interesting hypothetical? Read my post history, Sherlock. And then answer the damn question.

If the tournament were as “random” as Cal and Kansas fans like to pretend, it’d be a serious possibility, buts it’s not.

it's not random.
You can usually pick 7 or 8 teams before the tournament starts and pick the winner. The randomness comes from not knowing which of those teams will win it all.

That's why the biggest thing is to be in that category of 7 or 8 teams at years end as many times as possible.

If UK won the title this year, that would be awesome! Clearly, that would mean an enjoyable tournament for us. Having said that, it would not all of a sudden fix all of the current gripes I have with Cal. I enjoy watching good basketball, or at least I used to. Watching regular season games used to be fun.

I don't want to watch 20-25 games of just awful basketball until they start to figure things out. Cal is being paid millions of dollars a year. I need more than just being ready at tournament time for that kind of cash. I want to see good basketball for the entire season. I want the team to start out well and become great as the season goes on, not start off terrible and pray we get into the tournament.

But, would I enoy it if UK won the tournament this year? Yes I would. But, having a champion with a .500 record or slightly better, I'm not really sure what that says about any of the teams in the tournament. It certainly would not be a great look for college basketball as a whole. I'd start to question whether or not we were crowning legitimate champions.

Great points.

For me the results would be as valid as ever. For me the chances for an underdog victory are what make college basketball better than any other sport.

Getting old, but I guess you’re dedicated to the character. But, really, it’s getting old. Between you and @oldsports_ , not sure who is bothering me more.

Considering I 100% gave up on this team even making the tournament a month ago, if we went on a 10 game winning streak to win the SEC tournament then win the NCAA as an 11 seed, I'd just have to laugh, a lot. Then shoot some bourbon and celebrate.

It is possible. It’s extremely unlikely, but possible. There is no such thing as a bad Championship season so yeah, I’d be ecstatic. It’s just so unlikely.

This. The regular season counts too. And I'm tired of watching ugly, unorganized, brick laying, archaic offense every year. Cal now has a worse 5 year record than Tubby did his last 5 years, which is completely unacceptable no matter how you try to spin it.
