Time to stop doubting Pike

There has been too many posts recently that were throwing in the towel on Pike and questioning if he was much different than Ash. Please stop that. Pike is the real deal. This is a young team that is clearly getting better as the season goes on. Player development continues to improve, and most of all we are relevant with recruits. There will continue to be growing pains, but there should be zero doubt that we are lucky to have Pike as our coach.

Go RU! Great Win!

Yet no one on here coming out and saying they were wrong

"I've lost all faith in Pike"

I wasn't wrong, stand by what I had said. The basis of my thread was that Pike kept giving Issa major minutes, especially at the end of tight games and it was costing us. Obviously he has realized what was going on and Issa has seen little to no (DNP today) minutes as of late. Everyone loves to bring up past statements that were made when the team was in a different state.

Pike obviously read my thread and took my opinion into consideration, should start paying me a consulting fee

Enjoy the rebuild, there will be peaks and valleys along the rest of a very tough schedule the rest of the way.

There are always skeptics out there or some that will say "who did you beat"??

Well that's the next step....instead of finding a way to win with a bunch of underclassmen, the bar will be raised to not beating someone at the top half of the conference.

RU fans should enjoy the last few days and you can play the teams on your schedule. Illinois blitzed Maryland today at MSG, any league win is a great thing to celebrate.

Never did. Why? Because he's a proven HC and has rebuilt teams before. It's just a matter getting all of the pieces together. Pike knows how to coach and even more importantly he now knows what it takes to recruit in the B1G. No more projects like Mensah. We need contributors in all facets of the game to succeed in this league.

Great, so I guess we really are going to get one of these threads after every win. Can't wait, looking forward to next Wednesday's addition.

A squeaker against the worse team in the conference doesn’t change my thinking.

Not saying he’s not the real deal....but don’t see how you can say he definitely is yet, Still not convinced, but a great game vs Indiana could definitely go a long way to changing my thinking.

A wins a win, though.

Yup. Just like if we go into the tank and lose 5 in a row the doubting will start again. I thought he coached a good game against Nebraska. I thought today was neither good nor bad. I would not have blamed him if we had lost today either since the players played like garbage. He coached a horrible game against NW, IMO. Also, IMO he is also a better coach than Chambers and Myles in the league. I don’t think he is a better coach than Collins.

No one knows if he’ll get it done here. Most of it depends on his recruiting. He needs to keep pulling in classes like last year’s.

I stand by the premise that until we win battles for NJ talent we’ll never achieve the heights we aspire to.

That being said, gotta like what Pike is doing. Marked improvement from prior seasons.

Never did doubt him. That's why a week or so back I posted there were a lot of folks on here that were having to eat crow for dinner.

Pike will make huge inroads if he can just keep this team together and eliminate transfers.

At least you owned up to it! Huge Pike fan but I will say he's been slow to make adjustments i.e. issa this year. Seemed to be overly cautious bringing some people along and maybe a little too loyal to issa as he hasn't played well for many more games then it took him to bench kiss for a game

Pikes a good coach. I don’t think anyone has ever denied that. I know I haven’t. This is a tough job. The ONLY comparison I know I made, and I won’t speak for others, is that Pike and Ash had similar results in conference standings and recruiting by average star rating. That’s not arguable.

This season it looked like Pike was refusing to play the young guys and allow them to push the ball to score in transition. Maybe it was always his plan to ease them in. It took a long time for him to do that and I’m glad he figured it out. I had a feeling he would but even then I didn’t know if we’d get results. Now we’re in January and have 3 wins in conference, poised to make a run and potentially move up the conference ladder. But we still got to do it. I really only expected to beat Penn St twice, and thought everything else was gonna be tough.

Like Pike said. We can do this on the regular. Just gotta keep it up.

I think the coaching staff faced an unexpected major crisis with the roster when it became clear that Thiam and Kiss were not going to able to contribute as much to this team as they perhaps were counting on. This required a shakeup in the roster and rotation and forced the freshmen into larger roles which took time for everyone to get used to. Even now there are growing pains which were magnified when Eugene got hurt

I still think going forward for RU to take that step to contend for a NCAA tourney Pike needs to recruit at a higher level or at the level of landing a few Mathises

It's starting to look like an actual build. Just starting though. A young team beating a bad team on the road in a game where you don't bring your best game is one step of many. More than we can say for some of our past coaches, still.

I've been all in since day 1.

No disrespect to anyone, but you need to be blind - or a basketball idiot - to not see how much he has changed our program in such a short period of time.

And guess what...when we falter next (and we will), the idiots will be out in force again saying stupid stuff.

I doubted him and still doubt him. There’s no question he’s improved the team. But I don’t believe he is the next level coach who can get us to the tourney.

A great win though.

I hope a few years from now we can laugh at the fact that a game against penn state is viewed as some program changer.

That's definitely what happened. I'm sure the staff thought issa and kiss would combine for at least 20 ppg this year. A little slow to adjust though but the team is coming around. Hopefully it's enough to help land some big fish for 2020

I think 3 conf wins and a good chance of not finishing last does give me hope. But the timing of this post is very poor. Beating the worst PSU team in a long time doesn’t prove anything. Get one more conf win and then post this.
