Should have happened years ago but someone at UK still has to care about our bb program. It does so much for the state and currently the program is at the lowest level it’s been since the 20s. Cal does what he wants with impunity. He does none of it to improve the product on the floor. Surely there are people at UK who understand what these imbeciles are doing to UK bb. Barney has 3 tournament misses and a losing season in his watch. Every 7 years is the rate at which we are missing the tournement. Haven’t beat a p5 team in the ncaa in idk how long. Won our 1st ncaa game in 4 years. Barney has to be fired or we don’t have a serious athletics program. I’m sorry but the best protect their best they stay on top. They don’t sacrifice tradition for badminton final fours. Get this loser and yes he is a loser get him out of Lexington. It is an abomination this guy still makes his home in lex after what he has done to our bb program. Dealing with tubby, hiring Bcg on a napkin contract, extending cal on a lifetime contract while our records fall. This clown has to go. I see today just a bunch of apathy. Last year people were pissed and wanted heads this year they are moving on. Anyone hoping for a rupp exodus it isn’t happening. They have dropped the seating by 5-6000 under cal so it stays mostly full. One family who loves uk tradition gives up season tickets some millenial buys them up. Only way this crap is getting fixed is to bring in an Ad with a spine to deal with cal. There are things that can be done but lazy Mitch doesn’t care about uk basketball. He’s made that clear. No one in the history of our program would have sat and watched this nightmare the last several years without massive change. It’s time for a movement if you ever want UK basketball to be synonymous with greatness again.

I agree that Barnhart isn't aggressive enough for my tastes. UK will soon be left behind by other, more progressive (not liberal) programs unless Barnhart retires soon. His opposition to NIL and alcohol sales are just a couple of areas where he just doesn't get it. MB seems to be easily bullied and is afraid to fire coaches. Both baseball and women's bball need new faces. Then, of course there is the Calipari contract. He scored a minor victory in Stoops and the volleyball coach but, that's about it.
What he does do VERY well, and it's why he'll never be fired, is fundraising. The athletic board loves the guy and they aren't about to take a chance on cooking the goose that lays the golden eggs.

I don't know how turning a nearly 80% winning percentage in basketball to 58 is considered one of the best?
Bottom line is we can't let him make another basketball hire or sign anymore contracts. He's a product of Tennessee, and Jimmy Sexton works him like he worked the UTAD for decades. Mark Stoops is making $8m to beat directional schools and the bottom of the East. Mitch had to use veto powers to avoid a 9 game league schedule because he knows our man couldn't handle it. Cal is phoning it in on a lifetime deal. Kyra is doing great as a Pat Summitt memorial hire, but otherwise is a clear failure.
He's been a good manager of non-revenue sports, but that isn't where his money is earned. He tied THE UKAA's hands, mortaging the future of its most successful program with the ridiculous, unnecessary, and unprecedented "lifetime contract". In the corporate world, when you go out on a limb with decisions like that and it blows up in your face, you are GONE That's true no matter who else signs off. Does anyone believe that a "come to Jesus" meeting would not have taken place at the end of the season if not for the contract?

Bingo. Stoops has built a solid foundation, but the idea that we are playing big boy football is a facade that Mitch helps build with our schedule. We habitually lose to the teams we are competing with on the ladder in the east, even when we have comparable or even better talent. We have 2 total wins against teams who finished with winning records in the SEC during his tenure. He's given 3 consecutive Tennessee coaching staffs momentum building wins when we had a chance to step on their throats and build our own momentum in that series. The man is severly limited as an in game coach, which doesn't help the fact that he's subpar at gameplanning during the week. When this turns sour we are going to be left holding a massive bag, all because Sexton was able to manufacture the idea that he was going somewhere and Mitch takes the bait every single time. We should have let him go and used the foundation he built and the increased resources to hire a coach who wants to do something other than stagnate.

While I agree fully that he should have been fired decades ago, back when he took a popular money making football program and starved it to death, you will never get rid of him now, he is a great politician that bought a lot of academic support by giving academics $60,000,000 of the athletic departments money when he had bankrupted it to the extent he had to BORROW the money absolutely needed to rebuild the money cow. The MONEY COW that HAD to have the improvements that he had COMPLETELY ignored until we lost hundreds of millions in football revenue. Because he did NOTHIHG to improve football's facilities for his first DECADE on the job, while the other SEC ADs were investing in the MONEY COW.
Joker was the fall guy, nobody could have done much better with the TWO four stars he inherited against an SEC schedule that AVERAGED 38 four-star recruits (plus five stars, minus Vandy of course, and Florida alone had a dozen five stars) in their previous four classes. Fortunately Stoops saw the opportunity and VOLUNTEERED for the job. And how did he do with Joker's talent his first year AFTER more than doubling our number of four stars? The same miserable TWO OOC nobody wins.

What makes you think that changing ADs is going to change CCC'S contract? It won't.

I can’t recall an AD being fired or stepping down pre maturely other than a program getting caught cheating or some other type of scandal.
So as much as i agree that Barnhardt has become an anchor for the basketball program, i think we’re stuck with him until he’s ready to retire. Which is hopefully soon.
