Some of you were 17'n adamant we were going to lose all of our good recruits and our recruiting class was going to suck and set us back even further if we kept Jomo.

THAT AIN'T HAPPENING!

Time to eat crow.

Let's wait and win the bowl game, then finish off the class in totality in February, before declaring Moorhead the savior again.

We signed some good players though, for certain.

I've always said....really good recruiter. Too stubborn to admit his offense won't work in the SEC (unless you have Bama/LSU talent)

Gotta admit I'm impressed he got every commit to sign today... really nice job. With that said, we're still 10th in sec; we're only ahead of vandy and the 3 sec schools that fired their coach

That’s my general concern as well. What we’re calling “really good” recruiting is still firmly in the subpar category in the SEC.

We can be a solid team again if he gets the right type of players and combines that with strong player development, but we’re still in wait and see mode in both areas with Joe

I didn't say we had our best class ever, I was just simply pointing out there were many who said our best recruits were going to sign elsewhere and we'd have a recruiting class in the 30s, which would be a setback and below our recruiting averages.

It's not happening.

This class is solid though. Go by the offer sheets. Mullen signed OL and other projects that never made it bc of grades or their offer sheets were UAB, Samford, Troy and Miss St. Offer sheets now are legit SEC and other P5 offers.

Never said he's the savior. I'm not on the JoMo train. Jumped off during the Kentucky win. He's a good recruiter though and hopefully gets better.

I support who our coach is though since we have him at least 1 more year. I'll never root for MSU to lose a game.

It would be nice, but there's not a lot of difference in the #7 and #10 SEC class. It comes down to evaluations and development mainly. One player can skew the rankings too when you're talking about the 7th and 10th class.

Ask the Black Shark Land Bears how those recruiting championships work out in the long run? I want results on the field where it counts, not in December and February 'cruitin wins.

Well we aren't getting results on field either

A lot of factors you aren't considering. Mississippi players are notoriously undervalued, especially when compared to Texas, California and Florida. And inside Mississippi, the same thing happens on a smaller scale. See OliveBranchDawg's post here: https://forums.sixpackspeak.com/showthread.php?207557-Signing-Day-Thread&p=1704723#post1704723

That's just life for a small state like Mississippi. But unlike other states our size, we have much more football talent per capita.

10th is about where we've always been. Be nice to move into that 7-8 spot

It is nice to close on who we are trying to get. I think that is what is for sure better than Dan. Less last minute drama. Maybe the December signing date helps in some way? It just seems that Joe works harder at recruiting than Dan did.

I’ll readily admit that there for awhile, I thought we had a less than 50/50 shot to keep Marks. You just see it all the time where a blue blood ends up missing out on a couple 5* studs, and then they end up making a big push for one of our guys late in the game.

Great job by Joe and the staff to hang on to him

He actually likes recruiting though. He said in his presser the other day how excited and fired up he was to hit the road recruiting. The whole staff is the same way. Dan was as good of an evaluator and developer of talent as there is, but if he put more effort into recruiting he'd be developing a more polished prospect, so it wouldn't take 2-3 yrs to teach his RBs how to pass block and wouldn't be signing OL who were an SEC reach or worse a non qualifier.

I have no doubt Moorhead outworked Mullen while here. I do wanna see better results for that work though... the difference in classes between the 2 is negligible so far and Moorhead hasn't had to face the OM recruiting effort at full force yet

Florida went all out to get him. He did take an unofficial visit to UF but declined to take an OV the following weekend. Moorhead being heavily involved in our recruiting allows our commitments to be more sticky.

Dan relied more on his area recruiters. Recruits know Joe will respond to them when they reach out and they apparently reach out quite often to Joe and he spends a lot of time talking to them.

Am I wrong for believing the NCAA rules say a coach can only contact a recruit a limited number of times but a recruit may reach out to a coach any time the recruit wishes and the coach is allowed to have conversations after the recruit initiates said convo?

Glad we got good recruits for the next guy.

I'm holding my judgement until we finish our October games next year.

We're in the same boat! I hope Joe works out bc that means we're winning, but I'll believe it when I see it. Cupboard won't be bare that's for sure and hopefully a balanced roster.

After Tutorgate I guarantee Bracky Brett ain't letting Joe step one iota outside NCAA rules.

good that he is recruiting about the same level we have been. So now that he is recruiting the same level of talent, can he develop said talent and win games on the field with it? that will be what really matters.

The long run is never a sure thing and even iffier at State and UM. In the short term though, I imagine the bear sharks were happy beating Bama twice and going to the Sugar Bowl.
