Like I've always said,
There is this weird inverse variation with Iowa offense and defense.
defense = k/offense
The weaker our O is, the stronger the D is. They cannot both be strong together.

That was a brilliant play design.
Indeed it was, lots of eye candy, jet motion into fake orbit motion + fake to Jazz and QB keeper. It's really the stuff we've seen others do and screamed for a long time. Absolutely love it and a mobile QB with experience makes it all better.

Give Lester two weeks to cook up a gameplan for Oregon and Hawks will be swinging.

The one play I absolutely loved (don't remember when it was this year), but Iowa ran that traditional fake handoff waggle that has been thrown to TE's for 20 years BUT this time, MG planted his feet and threw a screen to RB across the opposite side for a nice gain. I've wanted to see that for years!

The other one that I think would be cool to see is a fly sweep to Anderson/Gill, etc but a reverse handoff to Wetjen.

You and I might disagree on this (and maybe others) but with a completion I think the Indiana player tackles Moulton short of line to gain if you run that frame a few more seconds. Yes, we had two blockers there and yes MG or Heck makes that throw (checkout the poor footwork by Brown btw). But the defender runs by both but maybe the OL knew the play was dead...either way, good point, we had that damn game and if MG is playing we win and we get some slack to not have to win out to get to CFP. Although in today's athletic Doc has Iowa as 'next five out' in the bracket of 12.
28 was a stationary target. 9 throws to him right there the two Iowa OL engage that guy in step as designed and 28 is off to the races.

I love Tim and Kirk but I personally don’t think the offense would be much different under Brian right now.
It wouldn't even be close under Brian. He didn't believe in running the QB at all, thought it was too risky. Didn't believe in "backyard football". Just thought he could line up and out physical and out execute you. He could do that when he had Tristan Wirfs, Alaric Jackson, and Tyler Linderbaum. He was absolutely lost after that.

It's not great at all. It's just functional. It wasn't functional under Brian. When the Iowa defense came up with a turnover or Coop had a big return a couple of years ago you were praying they'd make it to the end zone because the offense wasn't going to score. At least now you feel like the offense has a good chance to score when they're starting inside the opponent's 20 yard line.

In the "invalid fair catch game" it was so disheartening that we KNEW our offense couldn't get a couple first downs to kick the walk off FG.

Earlier this season..... We were probably a 20% change of getting in FG range in that situation.

In the last 2 weeks, I'd put us at 70% chance of getting those 2 first downs (especially when you have 4 downs to do it). A healthy Mark and the current play calling makes this happen.

Our play-calling definitely seems to be less predictable, which is great. But our lack of a passing game is still infuriating.

Passing Yards / Game: Rank 130th
Yards per Completion: 132nd
Only 5 Passing TD's, good for a 122 spot
Total Passing Yards after 8 weeks: 130th (Mark has less than 1,000 yards passing.......wtf.)

Rushing: 39th.
Still need to open things up. The 2nd half would have been a good time to tweak the passing game.

I'd probably agree with that. It was just unfortunate that the offense was Brian level bad the first few weeks including the ISU game.

I don't have his snap count, but he had 3 receptions against Wisconsin in his first game action. That would infer a fair number of snaps and you can only assume they've gone up each game assuming no setbacks. They wouldn't still be limiting his snaps in game 3.
What? While it may be true (in this instance), three catches does not in any way infer a fair number of snaps. Your logic belies your second statement about his number of snaps going up in the last two games, as your chosen statistic (number of receptions) which was one in each of the last two games would point to him playing less snaps.

As the announcers said this past week, “Iowa isn’t running into a brick wall every play anymore.” That brick wall was Brian’s predictable offense, with hardly any misdirection or creativity. Now under Lester, opposing defenses are guessing, and Iowa can finally move the ball with some rhythm and purpose.

Brian, a former OL, was never able to craft a run game worth a damn. Even with NFL-quality RB’s and immensely talented OL-men, our ypc was terrible.

Offense was fine up until 2021 under BF. That was 4 years of decent numbers under BF and really that’s all we need from the offense when PP is running the defense.
When did O'Keefe call it quits? I believe it was '21.
