Our offense finally looks complementary again, if we can continue to upgrade the WR room I like where things are heading
the BF experiment was such a poo stain on the program

Yes, if Tim Lester can get separation at the line of scrimmage and then make the downfield catch, he's deserving of flowers. And of course, that's if the QB can get him the ball.Settle down brah. If they complete a 50+ yard pass to a WR next year, then we can hand this man some flowers.
If he catches it, we’re complimenting Lester for his change-of-pace call that caught the defense by surprise. He's an improvement for sure, but 1st and goal on the 5, up 7, and we’re empty throwing a quick slant over the middle to a running back who hardly plays, disqualifies him from being called elite.
It will hurt the perception of the program until KF retires. I don’t trust high school kids not to see the constant ragging of Iowa’s offense and be a bit affected by it, which makes our climb just a little bit more uphill than other teams averaging 29 ppg.Our offense finally looks complementary again, if we can continue to upgrade the WR room I like where things are heading

No, you may be thinking of the other guy . . . Brian something I think it was.And KF got so much grief over hiring him.![]()
It was a simple play. It was wide open. The RB failed to catch the ball. What can the OC do about that? That was a head scratcher, for sure. TL has been a gigantic upgrade from Biff, but he definitely has a tendency to be too cute at times....

And how many times has Iowa been intercepted this year off a deflected pass? More than in any one season I can ever remember. It was incredible.
This is why you run it. Our guys haven't shown the best hands this year (outside of Vander Zee who is glue). Everybody around me shouted at the TV when we lined up empty backfield. I expected Gronowski to run.It was a simple play. It was wide open. The RB failed to catch the ball. What can the OC do about that?

Iowa average right at 30 points a game , Iowa . This Years Offense with the 23 Defense and Iowa is still playingLester is better than Brian. Elite? I dunno
If it's a successful play not much to ***** about. But we had 4 shots from the 4 yard line and we're running the ball well. If you believe in the mantra "play to your strengths", we did NOT do that and it cost us big time.If he catches it, we’re complimenting Lester for his change-of-pace call that caught the defense by surprise.
As I see that whole situation, we gave away a touchdown but Vandy gave one back when their punter did what he did. 14-3 is a fair representation of how the first half went. Do I think we should have run the ball? Of course, but in the end, we screwed up, Vandy screwed up, it all worked out.If it's a successful play not much to ***** about. Changes the whole trajectory of the rest of the game. The players and Lester both played thru it and ultimately had a very good day.
Bottom line there are several more "bad" things that CAN happen on a pass play, and two of those "bad" things did indeed happen. Perfect pass went right thru his hands, AND got picked off. Zero points, Bad.
If that happens First and Ten at the 42 yard line it still sucks, but it makes a LOT more sense.
Lester is doing a good job overall, sure helps to have a competent QB, even though Gronk was pretty suspect as a passer most of the year. He was really good yesterday.

There are times when it is ok to get “cute” with play calling, and times when it isn’t. In my opinion, first and goal at the 4 is not one of them.If it's a successful play not much to ***** about. Coach Don Patterson, a very wise man, agreed with the obvious…..it was a terrible play callThere are times when it is ok to get “cute” with play calling, and times when it isn’t. In my opinion, first and goal at the 4 is not one of them.
But as others have said…no one would complain if it worked.
Terrible is quite a strong word describing this. SO easy to Monday morning quarterback. 49 x out of 50 that play would have worked perfectly given the circumstances, yes in retrospect wish we would have run the ball.Coach Don Patterson, a very wise man, agreed with the obvious…..it was a terrible play call
No it was a terrible play call That’s not debatable to anyone with a functioning brainTerrible is quite a strong word describing this. Please Google Kirk Ferentz gets criticized for hiring Lester - lots of stuff on Twitter as wellNo, you may be thinking of the other guy . . . Brian something I think it was.

How about not calling a quick slant to the eighth-best pass catcher on the team when your offense is playing really well and there are so many other options on 1st and goal, with Vandy’s defense reeling after just giving up a huge play?It was a simple play. It was wide open. The RB failed to catch the ball. What can the OC do about that?
Then coach the throw lower. If he catches it, we’re complimenting Lester for his change-of-pace call that caught the defense by surprise.
Meh, maybe. Obviously, we would’ve been happier with the results, but I’m not sure the play call would’ve been getting many compliments. I don’t remember KF getting a whole lot of compliments for his clock management at the end of the capital one bowl because of the end result…If he catches it, we’re complimenting Lester for his change-of-pace call that caught the defense by surprise.
