We used to be Tight End U with players who could block and scheme and make the big catch in a clutch. WTH has happened?

Tight end U seems to be a production after college thing (Fant and Hockenson season notwithstanding). And even during their tag team ultra season there were games where one or both were completely ignored for whatever reason. Laporta was ok but the entire offense was dog doo for most of his career. Kittle was hurt/rarely used.

The route tree for the TEs has gotten worse with each OC that’s come in.
Brian did use them a lot, and he’d mix in some seam routes but majority of the throws were in the 3-5 yard range

Lester seems to have abandoned any routes that go further than 5 yards for them. Literally every pass I’ve seen this year to a TE is a 3-5 yard hitch where MG throws the ball 100mph and it’s a 50/50 catch

Not TE exclusive but I’d love to see the charts of the passing game compared between BF and now nearly 2 years of Lester

Well, our #1 TE and likely NFL prospect is out for the year.... so there's that. Some of you people are pretty dumb.
Is it really asking a lot to want and/or need your back-ups to be ready to produce? And at Tight End nonetheless?

What in the world happened to Ortwerth?

The #1 player coming out of Iowa H.S. (Meyer) isn't ready to get in the way of some defensive ends or catch some balls five yards downfield?? Our abysmal production at this position is a big mystery.

Iowa basically has 2 walkons playing TE right now. Do you actually think the staff would trust a true Frosh to come in and get in the way of a DE or run a 5 yard sit down route?

You must be new here.

Aka...lack of quality depth.

You're constantly defending everything with KF and Co.
An aging coaching staff on the brink of retirement. Negative recruiting is going to plague Iowa until a new staff is in place.
It happened with Hayden Fry.

Dropping passes and missing blocks has nothing to do with route trees.

Woah woah woah. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Addison Ostrenga, who is now a senior, had just 15 catches for 114 yards his entire junior year. What exactly makes you think a senior with virtually no prior year production, is a "likely NFL prospect?"

Hodge has done a poor job with that room. With the guys we have in the NFL currently, that room should be loaded.

It's Hodge's fault we have no talent at the tight end position? And how can that have come to be after putting 4-5 tight ends in the league over the last 10 years?
