Horrible news about Ostrenga. Why does it appear we haven't recruited this position as well recently with all of our talent in the NFL?
Maybe because recruits have noticed the lousy offense and very suspect QB's.Horrible news about Ostrenga. Why does it appear we haven't recruited this position as well recently with all of our talent in the NFL?
That's part of it.Maybe because recruits have noticed the lousy offense and very suspect QB's.
I would agree with your comments and add I do not think it is just tight ends. IMO, the major factors of all position(s) recruiting are Ferentz's age, Ferentz upcoming retirement (please), boring/embarrassing brand of football, Ferentz's reputation of overall control, getting pounded by good teams, not contending for championships, etc. I really do not think Iowa has a chance to up its program until Ferentz is gone. Again JMHO.That's part of it.
But it really has been strange that even 4-5 years ago, Iowa was missing out on its top targets for TE.
It was almost like these HS recruits were getting tired of seeing Iowa as TE U and wanted to go elsewhere to try to help those other teams have success with their help at TE.
Yes, that's an exaggeration, but honestly that explains it about as well as anything else.
It's like why the Iowa women's basketball team doesn't have top recruits in a bigger waiting line than at the soft serve stations at Carver, after the success of Caitlin Clark.
For whatever reason, good TEs just stopped wanting to go to Iowa, and it DID start happening before Iowa's offense truly became a national joke.
And I don't know that I can blame the staff, necessarily, for that, because I doubt that they shifted their recruiting strategy by any means either.
I will say, in current times, the Lester offense appears to be less-TE (receiver) friendly, so going forward that could only exacerbate the problem.
And Ostrenga and Ortwerth will be back. Iowa can be confident in two-tight end sets.Vonnahme was a freshman all-american at TE. Meyer got playing time as a true freshman. TE future is very bright.
I'd like to see some 3-tight end sets if they are all healthy. And Ostrenga and Ortwerth will be back. Iowa can be confident in two-tight end sets.
Yeah, Kirk does some of those too.I'd like to see some 3-tight end sets if they are all healthy.
I want to see two Iowa tight ends drafted in the first round againAnd Ostrenga and Ortwerth will be back. Iowa can be confident in two-tight end sets.
I recall Hayden running those with Marv Cook. Mike Flagg and Craig Clark.I'd like to see some 3-tight end sets if they are all healthy.

No reason to be a complete disrespectful jerk just because you disagree. But I have noticed that is your typical behavior junior. Is 85 your IQ? GROW UP. Now on ignore.lol idiot

Vonnahme is as close to Kittle, Hockenson that I have seen. If he stays healthy he could be head of the class.Vonnahme was a freshman all-american at TE. Meyer got playing time as a true freshman. TE future is very bright.
He reminds me of LaPorta more so than George or Hock.Vonnahme is as close to Kittle, Hockenson that I have seen. If he stays healthy he could be head of the class.
I'm going to expand this list. Brewer reclassified for 26 and DeJean in 27. A lot of future talent in the TE room.Vonnahme was a freshman all-american at TE. Meyer got playing time as a true freshman. TE future is very bright.
I think the recovery is less than that by half now. The unknown is whether the explosiveness returns. It didn’t for Lachey with a very similar injury.Does anyone know how Addison Ostrenga's achilles recovery is coming along?
It is a long recovery period. Probably the longest of all injuries, with some players not returning to 100% for a good 18 months.
