- UMass' Record is 5-2 with most impressive wins vs Rider (MAAC Favorite) and at Fairfield (62-60). They lost both games at Mohegan Sun Tourney losing to Virginia by 12 and St Johns by 15.

- On a personal note, I was at the St Johns game in Mohegan Sun so I have seen UMass play already this year.

- UMass is a team loaded of freshmen and sophomores who in 1-2 years I can see as a squad near the top of the A-10 but are not ready for prime time yet. Their guards are lanky and they have 1 decent big man - Tre Mitchell - who is a load but also likes to shoot 3's.

- HC is Matt McCall in his 3rd year - who previously was HC at Chattanooga and coached with Billy Donovan at Florida for 11 years.

- They have a new assistant coach - Tony Bergeron from Woodstock Academy in CT - who helped to recruit several players to their team - including their 2 best freshmen - TJ Weeks and Tre Mitchell.

- Their leading scorers are: TJ Weeks (15); Tre Mitchell (12); Carl Pierre (12) and Sean East (10).

- They shoot a lot of 3's averaging about 24 per game at a 37% clip and their FT Shooting is 65%.

- After us, UMass plays South Carolina and at Harvard (they play annually).

- Also if I recall, this is our first home game vs UMass since the infamous "protest" back in 1995/96 season when we were beating #1 UMass by several points at the half. I also remember us playing UMass at the Legends Tourney in Atlantic City about 10-12 years ago as we defeated them and lost to Florida in the finals. I think Rosario and possibly Echinique were on those squads.

My prediction after watching UMass play: We should win by about 10-14 points and we cannot let UMass' guards feel comfortable shooting 3's.

Great analysis. If we are serious about making the NCAAs ie being one of the top 40 or so teams in the country across the regular season, you need to win this game comfortably

On its own a UMass loss is not awful. But given the St. Bonaventure game, going 0-2 against A10 schools would be very bad.

i'm more concerned about a winning season which requires winning a very high number of out of conference games.

I agree although the way SB was nailing threes in that first half (especially from their 6’8 freshman who hardly played up until that point), I would call it more of a “wtf win” for them.
