This started out as a reply to a comment on another thread, but I don't want to pick on any one person. That and I am on a Mike Tice style hammered rant with a Black Listed Bully word count...
I promise I get it. I have owned a business and I am currently self employed. I want to get this stuff over more than anyone, but I am going to wait until the EXPERTS that understand this virus say it's okay...
Here is why.
Think about your favorite 68 year old Dad that has smoked since his tour in Vietnam. Think about losing him because of a 17 cold after the horror he endured.
Think about your 30 something year old friend you served with that now has a severe lung disease that he picked up from eating a shitload of sand hanging out of a touret during a couple of tours in Iraq.
Think about his elementary aged kids and his wife.
Think about your favorite preschool aged child born a couple of weeks early with under developed lungs and how he spent 4 weeks as a 5-6 lb infant fighting for every breath and somehow hung on, but today is still needs breathing treatments twice a day... And how he might be the 4th generation in a row to serve his country and fight for those who can't fight for themselves..
Those people are what I am worried about. I am going to be fine. But this is not about me. It's about those who can't protect themselves. I understand the economic impact... But I don't care. I would give every 17 dime I have and fight to my last breath for ever other dime I could pick up to make sure any which one of them live to see 80.
Each of us have put our lives on the line for this country and we all learned in boot camp you don't take the mask off until you get the all clear.. I know this seems like no big deal, but trust the experts not a bunch of people that only care about money.
I guarantee you that this country will be there to help pick up the pieces for those small business owners. It won't be easy, but it's a Hell of a lot easier than burying someone you care about.
Nobody is going to starve. Those most in need are going to get a few grand to help out. I won't get a dime, but I am not complaining. I am happy to help, as long as you help me.
Will all of you give the small percentage of people in this world that can't protect themselves from this virus a little help? I know it's not many people in the grand scheme of things. I know it seems insignificant. I know it probably won't affect anyone I care about... But it has and will kill someone else that somebody else cares just as much about.
Hundreds of millions of us banded together for a few thousand people that were stolen from us on 9-11. NYC was under attack. We would not stand for it and we're willing to change our entire way of life to fight back. And whether it's a bunch of terrorists or a virus, when NYC is under attack, America is under attack.
I was at the game against SC when GTHBL roared like a Spartan war cry over Davis Wade. I spent the better part of the next 5 years chasing those bastards across the globe and never once did I care about what I was sacrificing. I honestly can't remember being scared. I was pissed.
Well now I am scared. I am pissed. I can't control life or death, but damnit if you tell me there is a terrorist at the door and he wants to hurt innocent people I am willing to toe the line. This virus is a terrorist at the door and we will stomp it's ***. But let's not take our time and drag it out... Let's not let it kill tens of thousands when we know how to stop it dead in it's tracks.
For those that have toed the line before, I ask you to do it one more time. For those that have not, here's your chance to actually make a real contribution for all those yellow ribbons and thank you for your services... Now you have a chance to make a small sacrifice that just might save a life of someone who can't protect themselves.
I am on lockdown and I am hammered. But 17 me... I would hate to bury one of the 3 toughest mfers that I have ever known because people are worried about their pocketbooks..
Whether it's Easter or Labor day. Listen to the science on when we pick up the pieces... We are a country without borders, if NYC is still under lockdown and people are dying, but the rest of the country looks safe and free, they will flee NYC and this will spread. I am not going to blame them, I would do the same to protect my family. And so would each of you.
Eta. I formally salute all of those on the front lines of this battle... From the grocery store to the ICU. Go kick some ***. We appreciate you all.
