i know the Cats dabbled with this in the past. Now that Auburn is a solid 10 deep and 2 at every position with the addition of JUCO sensation PG J’von McCormick I’m hearing we might give platoons a try. Seemed to work pretty well when we delittled the continent of Europe last summer. What say you guys?
My last memory of your season is getting absolutely embarrassed by Clemson. Not a good look for your Tigers. Do me a favor, come back when you guys at least get to a Final Four. On second thought, never mind, you’re mildly entertaining here.

If we get Travis, we could platoon, but I doubt Cal will.

Oh, wait, you were talking about Auburn platooning.

I have no idea whether they could or not, and I really don't care.

I've said it in other threads and I'll say it here as well. If I had to pick any trollbase to post here, the AU fans would be the pick.

They/Denim Vest just have a certain panache missing from most trollcraft.

The Brad pic was a nice touch, and the posts read like Mad Magazine parodies of real-life subjects (like having a basketball program with history and achievement).

Well it was more a question on the philosophy not the personnel. Rest assured Auburn has the players though.

Good point. Our most selfish player got sent packing to St Johns. I think the remaining squad has bought into the sacrifice needed to make a run at a championship. Will he interesting to see how Bruce decides to distribute the mins.

Wow we will really be loaded starting 4 five stars and a 4 star, and platoon in four five stars and a four star. Does Auburn even have four five stars on their entire team?

We will have 8 five stars and 2 four stars. Not sweating auburns personel.
Good to hear. Any thoughts on the platoon system? TIA.

Auburn has the only two returning all conference guards in the SEC. A 5* C and a bunch of high 4*s / vets so feel pretty good about it.

The platoon system is ok but if I got a group in there and the chemistry is working or a couple guys are hot it can mess with momentum and cool off hot shooters. Better to situationally sub and to rest tired players as needed. But hey I'm sure Brucy will do what he always does he will utilize his depth to play physically and play hack attack d.

The platoon takes buy in from all the players. Your stars have to be willing to sit on the bench much longer than they ever did before.

Also, you need fairly even talent. There will be some drop off from one unit to the next, no doubt, but it can't be a drastic drop. For example, there was no way to justify a platoon with an AD and Vargas at the 5. If you have a guy head and shoulders above the other at one position, there really is no reason to split their time equally.

I actually think platoon would work really well at the mid-major level because if you have 10 3-star or lower guys, you can probably get them on board because their egos won't be as inflated.

Platoon system has it's positives and negatives. But I like it in the right situation.

1- Players (especially your best 2-3) have to BUY-IN totally.
2- Players have to go 100% while they are on the court, no taking plays off.
3- There can't be a big difference between your best 2-3 guys and your 8-10 guys, and not much difference at all between 4-5 & 6-10.
4- I think it works best if it is NOT a 50/50 split. Make it say 60/40 (or even 55/45). That way there is incentive for playing better/harder and getting on the 60 or 55 squad instead of on the 40 or 45 squad (8 or 4 more mpg).
5- Creates great chemistry, since you are playing w/ the same 4 guys all the time, you know where each other are, where they like to get the ball.
5- If done right, you simply wear the other team out. It worked great for us in 2014, UNTIL the Poythress injury. We were holding good teams to <30% shooting EVERY game. KU < 20% shooting. UCLA had like 8 pts at halftime. There was a little bit of dropoff w/ our 10th guy, and that injury put him at #9, and the new 10th guy had an even bigger dropoff, so Cal went with a 9-man "platoon" where the 9 would sort of rotate that as that 10th guy, so you had 1 guy not as fresh, and not consistently the same guys playing together, and then before long the platoon was gone.

It worked great for our '15 squad, but there also wasn't the level of talent on that team that you guys will have this year.

Our guys were able to sacrifice, I'm not sure Pearl or anyone can get that collection of talent to give up minutes and shots.
That is just awesome. Nice work there.

If I was Allbarn, I would worry more about getting past the first round in ANY tournament then platooning.

Truly you don't get it. Your program is historically the worst in the SEC. WE seriously pay you no mind. You may sneak in a win once every what? 80 times we play you? What is this new found confidence that told you to come to the best basketball program in America and strut back and forth?
If we want, we tell you to dance, you dance.
What is this ant that it should provoke a lion?

Huh? I’m talking about this upcoming season. Well actually I was just asking about platoons in general. Got some good stuff so thanks y’all.
