Thoughts on playing USC and UCLA

Thoughts are it will be interesting how the conference handles the schedule given right now we play every 3 or 4 days for the next month once B1G play starts. Won’t be fair to USC or UCLA going on the road and playing again 3 days later too many times in the season.

The Pac 12 typically plays Thursday-Saturday (or Friday-Sunday games). I can see games involving UCLA/USC having this kind of setup. A nice recruiting angle for all the other Big 10 schools is an annual three-day winter trip to SoCal. OK, not for all years - but most years.

Do any P5 teams do this now? Take one trip and play multiple conference games?

This is how the Pac 12 has typically scheduled conference games. It helps that the Pac 12 has nice symmetry with two teams in each state/region.

I see no problem with the whole conference shifting towards this model. If 3 games in a row away is too much, road trips can entail a pair of games. Every team in the conference is within a 4 hour drive of another team. It works both ways. Playing Iowa and Nebraska over one trip means we’re home straight for longer stretches too. It’s not that big of a deal to fly out Thursday, play Friday - drive after game 4 hours. Rest Saturday. Play Sunday and go home.

Minimally, they should get to earn the frequent flier miles for all the travel. I have a hunch, though, that the universities collect those instead of letting the athletes get them.

I did not know that, I checked AZ's schedule, even their home games are like that.
No 3 game trips, but the same principle.
It's perfect for them - teams match up by state or at least sort of

I like the idea of doing smaller tourneys among divisions with teams seeded 1-8 and then East Champ vs West Champ for the B1G Champ Game.

Probably 1-8 per division

One East plays 8 West first round and so on. That reduces likelihood of playing multiple teams in your division 3 times over the course of the year. So for example, RU (#1 East) plays Nebraska first round and UCLA plays Indiana (#8) and so on.

There are no FF miles for chartered flights.
