Very conservative and boring at times but we got the win. Super happy we used Brown a lot more compared to the Nebraska game, which should have also been a W. Wish we would provide our young QBs with more opportunities to develop and learn.
Imo they're great but they have to be executed better. Better passing and ok to run it now and again. The rollout passes need to stop.
Omg guys. This thread is about Play Calling. Not Roll Playing. TMI.you mean you haven't switched to strictly anal? pshh, it's the only sure way!
I am going to bet that most teams in P5/G5 have not used their 2/3rd string QB's as much as usVery conservative and boring at times but we got the win. Not quite true… if nuncio was calling the O we would have beaten Iowa and Nebraska… let that sink in.. we need a good QB.. do we have one? Doesn’t seem so.NV managed the game and made the plays he needs to. If he was healthy all year we have 3 B10 wins right now.
If Simon doesnt take two dumb sacks against Nebraska we win.Not quite true… if nuncio was calling the O we would have beaten Iowa and Nebraska… let that sink in.. we need a good QB.. do we have one? Doesn’t seem so.
NV takes care of the ball but is too careful and has bad arm.. GW prolly runs the best and maybe does RPO best but has also proven inaccurate and throws Ints.. Simon has look good and bad and throws ints and his trend was downward….
We can really use a good, dependable QB and maybe one more of these guys can step up because I expect the SBV show will not surprise anyone going forward.. it will get harder to run the ball
I don't think Vedral should be the starter. We won on the back of a good RB, good defense and poor play by Indiana.I am going to bet that most teams in P5/G5 have not used their 2/3rd string QB's as much as us
Teams would not have to respect the pass. They could go Man zero and stop our run option.Imagen Brown and Wimsatt... would be hard to stop. Even with Simon I think the offense would be much more efficient than with V.
Rolling the pocket kept him upright.Imo they're great but they have to be executed better. Better passing and ok to run it now and again.

We could run the ball today because IU came out in man free and we hit two vertical routes and they had to back off with a safety. This opened up JL on the flats which forced a LB to focus on him.
That is why we could run the ball today.
See my post above.I don't think Vedral should be the starter. We won on the back of a good RB, good defense and poor play by Indiana.
Simon may have made better short throws. The best part of playcalling was their was just one QB in the game and Simon didnt play. That allowed Noah to be able to manage things and we got Brown going. It was as Greg wants to be...complimentary, his hands were all over how this game was called
bingo, good postVery conservative and boring at times but we got the win. Super happy we used Brown a lot more compared to the Nebraska game, which should have also been a W. Wish we would provide our young QBs with more opportunities to develop and learn.
We hit two vertical routes, and almost a third, that changed the game.Simon may have made better short throws.
Also may have had more than 0 picks. 8 don't recall long throws today. It was run/short passes. Hope NV can hit a guy in stride vs throwing behind him. At times I think Simon is more accurate with hitting someone in stride.
I agree. Conservative playcalling like always, punting, and then lU wore down. No apologies though. In addition to the TD if I recall, any other 10 yard completions ?The biggest difference between todays game and a Simon game was the lack of Turnovers. Our defense was able to neutralize Indiana's offense as well. Eventually the game became about limiting Mistakes. Rutgers did a great job of not Making mistakes... Indiana threw the late Pick and that sealed it. Very good gritty win today
I'll admit, I was drinking during the gameWe hit two vertical routes, and almost a third, that changed the game.
Feeding Brown Is play calling. In the past Brown would have had 13 Carrie’s and the Carrie’s he didn’t get would have been distributed to JL on the JL package Simon throws and a few other plays that would have netted zero The extra runs by brown kept the chains moving, the IU defense on the field longer ( which wore them down) and allowed our D to stay freshI don’t agree. Clearly IU couldn’t stop Brown often, so we fed him. I don’t think that’s keen playcalling. That’s obvious playcallng, Gleeson would have done the same like he did on the BC drive. Playcalling worked against a D that didn’t hold up. Good win, but not evidence of better playcalling.
NV managed the game and made the plays he needs to. If he was healthy all year we have 3 B10 wins right now.
Overall better play calling, absolutely, but the three and out with no passes, with 3 minutes left in the game that gave IU the ball back was a great example of playing not to lose.

Here is the thing- It was the smart play, and if we had Brown available- they never would have gotten the ball back or we would have been up another score.I would normally agree but we don’t have a reliable QB. Why give them a free TO on an incomplete?
Thought the same thing. Injured hand?End of game possession Vedral belonged under center not in a shotgun. Less chance of a misplay & turnover.
Agreed. We run the play and our backs and TE run patterns that are at or two yards past the LOS. Almost would he just run with it.Ugly predictabe rollouts
Doesn’t the fact we didn’t switch QBs every other play tell us that was Gleeson’s call not GS?
So it’s just one game, but did you see better playcalling ? I saw feeding Brown bc IU couldn’t stop it, and I believe Gleeson would have done the same. I actually thought the playcalling was not any better, but it’s just one game so we will seeAgreed. We run the play and our backs and TE run patterns that are at or two yards past the LOS. Because Nebraska stuffed it. Iowa too. Playcalling doesn’t happen in a vacuum. We’re one dimensional. Today it was enough. That doesn’t mean good playcallingYet he didn't just the game before.
As terrible as it is, it’s the only throw NV complete…TE drag. If we didn’t do that he’s have 3 completions today. He can’t throw from the pocketI like the jet sweeps. Need 3-5 a game with anyone other than Langan.
I like the idea of the rollout but results were consistently absolutely terrible. Time to shelf that with NV. It's a total waste of a play. They r better off running it up the gut.
Brown ran hard and it felt like he got most of yards after contact. I don't feel like the OL controlled their DL. If brown didn't play, it would have been more noticeable.
Gotta get away from all the throws to Langan. Seemed like he was the primary route too often.
We didn't wear them down. 3 3 and outs to finish the game (not counting the last 2 play possession to end the game).
NV under center doesn't make sense. He has no arm. No threat for the home run ball. No defense should be scared of the play action with NV. I'd take ES or GW under center. I like the play action to help the run game but you need a QB with an arm.
I like the formation when brown scored.
If wildcat, gotta be KM and SB.
Straight from the Ralph Friedgen school of QBing. What was better/ best---- no interceptions
And they weren't stopping Brown. He averaged 4yds. a carry till we went away from it and put it in Simon's uncapable hands. He only got 15 carries. Give him the 13 more he had today and we win.Because Nebraska stuffed it. Playcalling doesn’t happen in a vacuum. We’re one dimensional. Today it was enough. That doesn’t mean good playcalling
Most of us saw in the Nebraska game, the same thing. If we just pounded it out, it wouldn’t have been pretty but it would be a win. I have said this since the day after the game.So it’s just one game, but did you see better playcalling ? I saw feeding Brown bc IU couldn’t stop it, and I believe Gleeson would have done the same.
