Thoughts on Play calling?

Not surprised. Not much time but simplified things and added consistency. I'm sure Greg played into the latter conservatism.

Happy to see less gimmicks and more standard offense. No turnovers!

Ok. What I was hoping for. We'll see where we go from here.

For anyone not thinking Greg gets involved in offense.. he stated he wanted AC to get the ball more. I think he did, right lol.

Listened mostly on radio - said NV was largely under center which is different - is that accurate?

No. Not at all. Not even when in celebration mode last two plays which Matt millin even called out.

Much more Langan as a te catching. Him as a hybrid and Adam running sweeps and brown were great moves.

Vedral needs to get rid of the ball faster. Especially on the rollout.
This, but otherwise so much better from Gleeson play calling. No delayed handoffs, not throwing the the LOS for zero yard gain. Some actual forward passes. Not switching QBs on every play. Nunzio did a great job.

glad the coaches remembers AC is on the team. Would love to see him and Youngblood get some quick slants over the middle going forward

I thought the offense was much more under control. No fire drill substitutions. No QB carousel. No subbing RBs in and out. Minimal procedure penalties. It just seemed simpler. Continue working AC and SB5.

There were a bunch of plays that were available today where our QB either didn’t see the open receiver or took way too long to pull the trigger, allowing the defense to close in and make an easy tackle. Another few plays that just took way to long to develop. Fact is, the play calling was solid, the talent at QB is a problem.

Not trying to bash NV, he’s a gamer and he’s clearly our best option right now. And today, it worked so the right buttons were pushed. But fact remains — we need a talent upgrade at QB. Until then, this offense is limited.

Great play calling. No boneheaded plays. Some lack of execution, sure. But no head afterward or at least very few .. compared to one per drive the last few games. Also liked going for it on 4th and 1 twice. New Schiano.

Indiana did what we did against Nebraska and Iowa. Pick 6 cost them the game.

I won't even address the play calling.
I just LOVED the fact that we looked better organized. None of the staring at the sideline with befuddled looks on our face. We're a team that wants to grind in a game chewing up clock,so I never understood the no huddle, rush to the line of scrimmage style. And like NV or not it was apparent that using only one QB in the game helped reduce confusion.
Good job Nunz

Playcalling no better than before. Ugly predictabe rollouts, rarely 3rd and long throws to the sticks. Fortunately IU D wore out. Outstanding game Brown.

Major props to the defense as usual.

Great comeback…happy for the team.

Play calling was fair but Vedral missed a lot of open receivers. Nothing too exciting to watch but effective enough to win today’s game. Brown looks good.

I like the ground-and-pound approach. Vedral hit just enough passes to make the offense somewhat balanced. Brown played great.

Ultimately, we won. Our offense beat theirs 17-10. So who am I to complain about Big 10 home win?

Disagree plays were there Noah couldn't complete the passes as he should've or he made the read too late.

Play calling was exactly what people on this board have been saying. More Brown; get more touches for Aron, better utilize TE. And something not mentioned frequently throw some passes to Ryan who was fantastic getting his foot inbounds 3 times. Don’t understand those who didn’t think play calling improve.
Vedral did miss a whole bunch of open receivers with at least 2 that would have been TDS.
Overall D was great B+, special teams C-,
Offense C, BrownV A, CruisankA, Bailey A,
Vedral C, Ryan A+. And one ref. D-

I basically agree with this entire post. Also thought Langan had a few nice catches.

Hopefully Vedral will benefit from the film review and see where he missed opportunities today (I mean decisions, not accuracy).

Play calling was improved. I felt we had a few too many 1st down runs up the middle again. The run offense did wear down the Hoosiers, especially helped by our D smothering their O after the 1st quarter until that late FG drive. The sweeps to AC were great. Still would like to see us use the middle of the field more in passing, but it was a good game plan.

This play calling would have won the Nebraska game.

There is much more to go into with the Iowa game but let's just say Nebraska alone- this is how we should have played the 2nd half.

As many have said- hard to change plays in 2 weeks but much easier to change how you use the plays.

And even today- if Brown didn't get dinged, I almost bet we score one more.

I don’t agree. Clearly IU couldn’t stop Brown often, so we fed him. I don’t think that’s keen playcalling. That’s obvious playcallng, Gleeson would have done the same like he did on the BC drive. Playcalling worked against a D that didn’t hold up. Good win, but not evidence of better playcalling.

The biggest difference between todays game and a Simon game was the lack of Turnovers. Our defense was able to neutralize Indiana's offense as well. Eventually the game became about limiting Mistakes. Rutgers did a great job of not Making mistakes... Indiana threw the late Pick and that sealed it. Very good gritty win today

End of game possession Vedral belonged under center not in a shotgun. Less chance of a misplay & turnover.

Yes the stat line for Noah had zero picks but Indiana dropped a sure fire one early in the game.

Play calling was proper today. With that said, schianos philosophy to score 17 on offense, 7 on D/ST, and trust the defense is so brutal.

We were fortunate on that one but that's why you play the game. There were a few times when Noah threw it away that Simon tries to force something and we would up getting picked. This game honestly reminded me a lot of the Cowboys/Rams game a few weeks ago that the cowboys won and Cooper rush had something like 102 passing yards. Fortunately our defense was able to neutralize Indiana's offense. Now that's certainly going to be tough to do with our upcoming schedule and i do believe we'll need more production from the QB spot if we're going to win 2 more with our remaining schedule

Agree but we don't do that. can't make that change in 2 weeks. Besides that. Better chance for him to re injure that hand under center.
