Thoughts on Bucky vs the Fighting Harbaughs?

I find myself pulling for Wisconsin in this one. I'd like to see the balance of power shifted more toward the Western division after hearing all off-season about how the B1G East is stronger. I know some would say we should be rooting for Michigan so that with a Western team having more losses, it could help our chances to get to the CCG, but if we take care of business on the field, I think it will work out for us in the end.

Thoughts?

I have mixed feelings. Would love to see Michigan get beat. Would love for Wisconsin to demolish them. With that a Wisconsin loss would help us get to the CCG. We play at Ohio State. That will be a tough game.

The west needs this win, this conference can't be seen as the haves and have nots . Both east and west must be seen as strong, the balance has tipped toward OSU , Michigan and M state and the East .

Nebraska , Iowa, and Wisconsin can change this !

Go Badgers!

I see this as an interesting matchup. On one hand, I don't think Michigan is so almighty and a team that can punch them in the face stands a chance. That said, I also think Wisconsin has some room to improve as well. While Wisconsin should be proud of wins over LSU and Mich State, it should be noted that the score against MSU 30-6 (with two defensive touchdowns and one where a bad snap/catch to the punter set them up on the MSU 5 yard line.) Of course, those touchdowns count just like offensive ones, but this was not the sound beating that the score indicates.

Wisconsin ranks 75th in total offense, but 12th in total defense (including 7th in scoring defense)
Michigan ranks 40th in total offense and 11th in total defense (13th in scoring defense)

These numbers alone would give a slight edge to Michigan, and because of both teams touting strong defenses, I think the score will be in the 20s.

Hell I cheer for every Big Ten West team to lose every week. Nebraska has to win the division before it can win the conference.

Michigan win. When DONU is top dog and expects to win every game, then I would say go Badgers (because I dislike Michigan). In the meantime, I am willing to take all the help we can get!

1. I might be in the minority but for my team I always want the easiest path possible. Even with the teams I coach, I don't care at all if a kid from another school is out because he got in trouble or blew off practice or twisted his ankle.

2. Michigan will win this game going away. I could see 7-3 after one...17-10 after two...24-10 after three...and 34-10 at the end.

Assuming WI also beats Iowa, if Huskers take care of business in all other games outside of tOSU and Wisconsin, then it will still boil down to winner of WI vs. UNL. If we lose to tOSU, and if WI loses to both MU and tOSU, but beats us, then we both have two losses and WI has the tie breaker. If WI beats both tOUS and MI, and if we lose to t OSU, but beat WI, then we both have one loss and we win the tie-breaker. About the only way WI losing to MI really makes a difference is it allows UNL to stumble once elsewhere and lose to tOSU, while still having a chance to win the West by beating WI and get the tiebreaker by virtue of the win. On the other hand, I hope WI loses to MI, tOSU and Iowa - because that's going to be a really tough game to win in Madison. I don't mind playing tOSU twice, because that's how this program is going to get better (plus seems like the heavy underdog ends up winning the rematch often enough)

The three-way battle for the west is certainly going to be fun to watch unfold. Nebraska vs. Iowa and Nebraska vs. Wisconsin and Wisconsin vs. Iowa will all be huge games. In the meantime, I'm going to just keep cheering for Nebraska to build momentum - get to 7-0 and see if some magic occurs.

On top of it, Nebraska OWES Wisconsin big-time and it would be so sweet to take them down on their home field. Then we're talking about a very hyped game where an 8-0 Nebraska comes into Columbus for a top 10 match-up.

I am definitely in the pro-West camp on this one, though I totally understand wanting everyone else in our division to lose so we look better. But here is my thinking:

The East is overpowered right now with the "rock star" hires of Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh. All the national press cares about, really, is them. That pisses me off, because A.) I view national sports media as extremely stupid and having the attention span of a 2 year old, but it is very loud, and B.) I want these "high and mighty" coaches kept honest or knocked down a few pegs.

We can accomplish that by having the West consistently challenge the East. I think we're on our way to regularly being the #1 or #2 team in the West in any given year, with Wisconsin and Iowa being the #1 and #3 teams (sort of a rotating top 3, depending on who has the strongest year). I don't see Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern, or Purdue being that good any time soon. So far, I'd say Paul Chryst is an excellent coach, and I am really liking Riley and Co a lot these days. Neither of them are big over-sized personalities or coaches that get all of the exposure of Harbaugh or Meyer. So, being able to go out there and knock off one of the top two teams in the East, fairly consistently, would only raise the prestige of the B1G overall, and the West in particular.

That is all true, but Ohio State is going to slaughter both Wisconsin and us all the same. They're just that good this year, and we're good but not quite there yet. I'd say we have a very honest 50/50 shot at beating Wisconsin, and we DO owe them a MASSIVE beat-down, but neither team is beating tOSU.

Wisconsin was crucial in us being removed from AAU. I can't stand anything from Wisconsin. They think they are better.....

...Assuming we take care of business leading up to that. Playing in Bloomington will be interesting. IU has taken many of the elite East teams to the wire recently.
