What a way to spend my 35th wedding anniversary; a few rows off the floor watching the UK-UL game.
Been to many UK-UL games but for some reason, this one was different, special in some ways.
Here are some thoughts from a very good view of the game:
UL is big; told my wife this was the first time I remember them being bigger than us like this.
Crowd was good then really great as the game went on. I have the videos of when I was there for UL and Slick's last game and watched it and the one from yesterday. The pre game and start, the crowd was louder but not so much as the game went on.
UK played with lots of heart. Hustled most of the game. Only one or two times did I think we should have grabbed a rebound instead of watching.
The tall white ref is kin to that wacky one who puts roofs on houses. Dang he seemed to be on a mission at times.
Sitting right under the basket, it was a war at times. UL players whinned all game as did their coach.
Right after halftime, McMohon from UL had the ref off to the side being all animated showing him how UK was guarding him crying like a baby.
Coach getting a T for being out of the box; yes he was; all 2 feet of it. Why did the tall ref call it from all the way across the court from the baseline? Why didn't he say anything to UL coach when he was out of it? You know, say old BS.
Right there to watch EJ come over and block that shot late in the game. Really great to see that. Lots of hustle from our guys.
What about the D on Nwora? Stop with all this crap about him being off; he had someone in his jock strap all game. What he got, he earned; the hard way.
Saw Joe B and Denny sitting close by. Joe B is struggling a bit. Denny looks tired as well.
Bill Murray looks like an old grumpy man. Maybe it was all the gaudy red he was wearing.
UL; stop with all this "we lost because we missed our free throws" Please stop. You missed some of them due to being tired, the crowd on your ***, and nerves. Yes nerves. I been around long enough and coach enough travel ball and HS ball to see when a player is trying "not" to do something.
If free throws was why they lost, then why not say, "we hit a couple more shots throughout the game, if Nwora, their All American worked his butt off a little more, maybe he could have gotten freed up for a shot or two.
Point is, they make excuses why they lost, blaming free throws but say nothing about the D that was played on their two top shooters, Nwora and McMahon. McMahon should stick to playing HORSE something he can excel at but playing against really gifted players, he cries too much for his lack of ability to guard someone.
Big Nick does not look to be 245 pounds. He is, just solid, strong. Big dude up close. Really taken back how Quickley has beefed up. He looks like some welterweight boxer. Impressed with our strength seeing them up close.
Saw these two idiots from UL at the game. I believe they were Zip and his son, maybe one of his followers if not his son. These two idiots had on court jester hats, sitting in the wrong seats and had to move later, but both looked to be escapees from Blackburn. Sour looks on their faces, acting like some tough guys surrounded by 20,000 blue cad UK fans. OK, I go to games at the Yum when UK plays them, but my wife and I do not go dressed as clowns. Guess my age is showing. Last time I saw something this stupid was at, yes, a UK-Ul game back in Freedom Hall. Had great seats then and some UL man with a basketball on his head started giving my wife crap when I left to go get some drinks. He was a real man, when I got back and heard what he did, he slid his basketball down over his face. Fools they are.
UK won the game because they out fought UL, they defended all game, instead of crying and finger pointing they ran back and dug in. UK won the game because WE ARE UK!
Best anniversary I have had. Great time in Lexington; bought some new pictures to hang; got to watch a great game; sat close by to watch the Cats beat UL and could see the tear drops hitting the floor.
Thanks Big Blue for a great day. The fans were super, Coach Cal coached his butt off; the players played their butts off.
If this is against the rules, I am truly sorry but yesterday proved to me that UL is truly owned by Coach Cal and UK.
Go Big Blue!
