Thornton transferring from Duke???

Someone appears to be leaving, but it's unclear from their board who it is and whether or not it helps them with Bolden. I would think the only one that would help with Bolden would be Jefferson, who is not gonna transfer. If he didn't seek a 5th year that would do it though.

Heard absolutely nothing of the sort on any Duke sites. While wouldn't rule out a transfer, Thornton would be a very strange transfer.

Why would you pick a school, re-classify, enroll early and then bail when you have 2 stud front court players coming in? Something else would have to be up.

This would be a huge loss to Duke.

Ah, okay, did a little poking around... seems to be started by Adam Rowe, although I don't know specifics.

That would suck, but if Allen comes back it wouldn't suck THAT badly. Surprising, though... sure, there is going to be a lot of talent at guard next year if Allen comes back, but would have liked to have Derryck around... seems to be a good kid and a good defender with plenty of room to grow.

Cant imagine him going to Louisvile, though... sit out two years, right, if you transfer in conference?

BTW... theres been a lot of talk that, if Grayson Allen comes back, Duke doesn't have the scholarships available for Bolden.

Now suddenly seeing a bunch of "Bolden to Duke" stuff (which I'll believe when it happens) and suddenly a Thornton transfer?

That might be a HUGE reach (can't imagine there isn't a walkon or someone who couldn't give up a scholarship) but who knows.

No it wouldn't. They would still have Allen, Kennard and the incoming Jackson. Thornton was not really that impressive to me. Now, if Allen left too, it would leave them with a FR Jackson or Kennard running point. Don't think either would excel, even with that frontcourt.

Yeah, not sure if this is a huge loss. If you figure Tatum will hold down the SF, that leaves Allen (jr), Kennard (smart soph), Jackson (super talented scoring fr), and Jones (sr) holding down the 1-2 spots. Maybe they get, total, 10 minutes at the 3 spot from Tatum? Basketball-wise, the only letdown would be losing a good PG defender.

I would hate seeing that happen, though. You always want to see a kid stick around and develop and grow... Derryck had a tough first year, but the whole damn team had a tough year. Would love to see him stick it out:(

Allen is going to enter the draft.
Kennard is not a PG.
Jackson would be the only PG and a Freshman.

Obviously you can win with a Freshman PG, but it would be a big loss for Duke.

So K lies and throws another player under the bus after reprimanding him on sportsmanship. Then he runs Thornton out to create room?
Sounds like the one and done is bringing out his true colors.

Maybe he knows Grayon's coming back, leaving Frank to compete at the point guard spot.

Or maybe he's just sick of Duke.

That would be one of the most massive log jams of all time, and K is not known to be a huge proponent of going with a deep bench.

C - Giles - Bolden - Jeter - Obi
F - Jefferson - Tatum

Just the scuttlebutt is that Allen comes back no matter what (heard that one from folks who know a team family member AND a secretary in the basketball department).

That's all Duke has that is even looking. This years team was very much a bridge to next year.

If Allen comes back and there is a major log jam and the big guys aren't getting touches I could see some chemistry issues coming up for Duke.
