Thompson's final PFF season grade was 78.3. In comparison, Martinez graded a 76.8 for 2021.

Thompson played half his games with a badly injured throwing hand and still finished with a better grade than AM. also, AM's grade was pulled up a ton by his running ability- he's a low-60s grade passer. Thompson's grade is all passing.

I, and all fans of winning football, should be ecstatic to see a move toward a more traditional, less-QB-reliant run game to go along with actual passing from an actual passer. no team in the CFP era has had championship success with their QB leading the team in rushing.

this is a massive, massive upgrade.

Does that mean we can’t do the horns down thing?

At the very least it's filling a roster hole with an experienced talented QB. I have no idea how it will work with a new OC, new offense and new QB next fall. It might not be pretty but at least we're bringing in guy who has done it before on a large stage and who seems to have the physical and mental talent to succeed. I'm still concerned about a new offense no matter who the QB is this fall.

I would be infinitely more concerned if we kept the old offense

It's just that there will be a learning curve for the whole offense instead of just a new QB.

good!

maybe it won't take years to learn this time & we can actually get some guys out on the field for Thompson to (accurately) sling it/hand off to!

Great addition, but what it really shows based on his stats is the need for a strong running back crew, we have the receivers which should complement his passing skills

Hopefully whip can scheme up some routes to get our guys that wide open as some of those guys were... pumped about his accuracy and touch on deep balls!!

This is a great pickup, very, very happy to get him. Some of those clips with him dropping 50 yd passes right on the money gives me great hope. It's awesome to have a guy who can be a deep threat throwing the ball, hopefully his short to medium range accuracy is just as good. Very happy with this though. Still hoping Nebraska can get him and Purdy to add even more competition to the QB room. The more competition, the better.

WR's just need to run good crisp routes and catch the ball which Joseph demands of his receivers and it's going to be fun again in Lincoln.

He is very decisive in his reads and throws without hesitation unlike Martinez who’d hold it hesitate then throw a floater
This^ was one of AM’s biggest flaws and also exaggerated OL woes (OL was still very sub-par).
The other twitter clip of Casey shows him (at Baylor) make a quick decision throw to the right side after looking left. That quick trigger and the 52 yd bomb against WVU are what have me most anxious to see.

Great pickup. Casey is a baller. He got a bad rap for how we ended the season but his hand was hurt most of the year. When he's healthy he can play. I wouldn't worry too much about your offensive line he's got a -year experience playing behind a non-existent one lol. he's going to win some games you're going to like him.

Martinez played with a busted jaw and multiple other undisclosed injuries.

It doesn't matter how many QBs are in the room or how much competition if the HC names a starter after fall camp and sticks with him no matter how poorly he performs or how many games he significantly contributes to losing. Hopefully Whipple sees it differently. He might be more willing to sit a guy, even if only a series or two if he is having a rough patch.

A lot of you guys are gonna be jizzing yourself about his stats next year...

And then you are going to realize those ****-worthy stats are going to look just like AM's.

It will be fun to watch.

This is not a knock on him...this is a knock on how dorky some Husker fans are.

I will gladly trade AM’s rushing for adequate or better passing

And I cannot wait to compare the most turnover prone (and therefore losingest) player in Husker history to literally anyone else

You should watch the kid and do some research before posting. They are nothing alike. Thompson is an accurate pass first QB, with a good TD/INT ratio. AM is an electric runner that is a turnover machine.

Adrian the turnover machine had great stats.

If hes minus the turnovers we will be very happy.
