The mulligan decision is mind boggling considering what Goodale said regarding ESU Open. I'm sure the staff have their reasons.

if true, it's especially curious since Correnti looked like he was not 100% healthy at the ESU open. Anyone have an update on his health status?

I'm guessing in todays matches vs CS Bakersfield and SF State, that our better lineup will be against CS Bakersfield, which is a much better team than SF St..

And yes the Correnti/ Mulligan decision seems strange at first glance. After watching their ESSO match several times it appeared Correnti was grabbing his upper leg (groin?) area much of the match, and the match didn't even appear as close as the 4-0 score might have indicated.

Wish there was a video stream for tonight. Sunday's match appears to have a live stream thru Cal Poly's site.

A lot more goes into building a lineup then one match at ESU. Maybe during Mulligan's recruitment, he told RU, I want to redshirt in '16. Maybe Correnti told RU if possible I want to wrestle in '16. And maybe they are bringing him to the West Coast just in case(and he does not wrestle and they can make a decision later). Maybe the long range plan is for Correnti to go HWT, but they need him at 97 for one year, then redshirt and bulk up during his redshirt season, then go Hwt.
I am just throwing out scenario's that could have happened. Coaches do put a lot of plans and scenarios together.

This has got to be the long term plan. Mulligan is small for 197 and will benefit from a year to fill out, and then next year Correnti can Redshirt and be ready for HWT when Gross is gone. Long term makes sense and I think we will all be very happy when we have Mulligan and Correnti as 5th year seniors anchoring the line up. Obviously if there are injuries or someone is under performing this plan may change.

IMO, RU is strong and ready to go. Very strong weight classes - 141 (Ashnault), 149 ( Theobold) 157 (Lewis), 184 (Gravina). Strong weight classes - 133 ( Dippery or DelVecchio), 125 ( McCabe or Paetzell) . So so- 174- Bakuckas. Questionable - 165, 197, and 285.

I wouldn't say 174 is so so. i agree with the rest.Bak has showed he can hang with most of the best 174. hopefully he comes out on top of those toss up matches.

Honestly, where do you see Bak and Gross placing in the Big 10 tourny ? I know it's early, but I'm guessing out of the 14 teams, neither will finish in the top 6 . Bak did finish 7 last year. Only the top 3 medal. I'm a big Bak fan and recognize his big heart and competitive desire. I sure hope I'm wrong. These weight classes are crazy deep in the Big 10.
The BIG 10 wrestling is just insanely competitive. RU should repeat with a top 5 team finish.

PS- bask in the achievements of Anthony Ashnault, RU may never see another like him.

PPS- What Coach Goodale has achieved with this team, with the absolute worst practice room in D1 is mind boggling. He deserves all the accolades he can possibly receive. And getting first Frank 'the Tank' and now Donny Pritzlaff on the staff, is another 'above the pay grade' achievement for Coach G. Give this guy a raise and extension !

Very well thought out and plausible scenario you laid out. I always pictured Correnti being a heavyweight. I mean he played football in the 240 range, so he definitely has the frame necessary to carry the weight.

Bakuckas is right on the cusp. wrestles so many good guys so tough but only rarely gets the upset. the Big Ten is super tough as always. the conference will probably qualify 10-12 guys at that weight, and Bakuckas should make the NCAAs. I think he can place but as of now he's a long shot. but that's still very impressive. he will win a lot of matches this year.

I'd say at this point bakuckas, being a borderline top 20 guy, is a more reliable then 125 (not ranked in top 20 but I like Paetzell's upside). Also Bak doesn't give up bonus points... so I'd say, as of now, our 174 weight is stronger then 125.
