This trio simply cannot play together

Alexander causes the offense to stagnate and is way too loose with the ball (dribbling and passing).

Wenyen is as lost as he was last year.

PJ can't decide if he even wants to be out there.

As of today, these 3 together in the game at the same time will result in an opponent making a run every time.

Hopefully we see vast improvement.

Thank you for correctly spelling the word "loose". It's such a relief to see someone execute that correctly.
Now we need to get the board to understand that there is only one "L" in the name Ulis.
But yeah, PJ washington is REALLY struggling, he seems to turn the ball over every time he touches it.
I still think Cal will have these guys rocking by tournament time. They simply let off the gas tonight.

Same thing I noted in the game thread. I'd like to see no more than 1 of them on the floor at a time, but don't think we have the players available to do that. At the minimum, just have Gabriel and Washington subbing in for each other. Then have Alexander getting backup minutes at the 1 and 2.

Wenyen and PJ both look like they just picked up a basketball a month ago.

PJ has been a huge disappointment

Too bad Vanderbilt is hurt. I would plug Tai in for PJ.

I think PJ will be a different player in February but right now he is playing way too many minutes. His + - I bet is horrid.

Well, in fairness, you could list any two players with Washington and they would struggle. He's just a liability at this point, and I've yet to see any evidence of a desire to get better.

Honestly, I thought Washington would be ready to contribute from day one as most, but certainly not all, high level kids of coaches are typically ready to contribute. Ehhh, it simply means will have to grow into his role.

Wenyan wasn't that bad tonight. He was active, although he forced a few shots and got beat in the paint on defense.

Alexander is horrible trying to run the offense. He doesn't see the floor well and is CONSTANTLY picking up his dribble when the defense collapses on him.

PJ has WEAK hands. It's killing his ability to do anything productive. He gets stripped or outright loses the ball when he dribbles against a defender. He gets the ball slapped away when he goes up for rebounds. He also is SLOW to react on defense.

So, I would say that having PJ and Shai on the floor with Diallo is a disaster offensively. Wenyan at least plays hard.

I was just expecting and wanting to see the PJ we saw in Egypt with the USA U19 team this summer. He was a man-child, except at the free throw line. I’ve yet to see even a glimpse of that guy so far. Every player besides Knox, Green, and SKJ have played below expectations. There just isn’t a quick fix to our issues. We will get better but the ceiling for this team has been lowered. Right now we are a sweet 16 team at best.

Can't disagree with most of what's been said. Really hope cal emphasizes Quade as either the #1 or 2 option when we need a bucket. Knox is the other guy.

Shai and diallo are great on D but very inconsistent on O.

PJ is surprising, can only get better.

Does anyone know why SKJ and Richards only played a combined 29 minutes despite having only 3 fouls between them? Richards was rebounding and playing well on offense. He only played 12 minutes.

What about “should of” instead of “should have”?...that and “to” versus “too”...never stops.

To me Gabriel didn't have a bad game tonight scoring 12 and 6 rebounds. I am so glad that we got Knox because if we didn't I don't know where this team would be today. Knox is going to get his close to 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Green is shooting the ball well and can shoot from 3 so he needs to be in the lineup. One plus right now is that we have 2 great options that hasn't played 1 game yet due to injuries. We could really use Baker right now as the shooting guard. Everyone was talking about his shooting and that he is an outstanding 3 point shooter and shot over 40% last year from 3. Vanderbilt will be huge if he can stay healthy once he returns to the Lineup. Vanderbilt was great last year in the All-Star games and scored 17 and 7 in the Jordan Brand Classic and 20 and 10 in 20 minutes in Nike Summit. These 2 will be huge when they return. We just have to be patient as Coach Cal will get this team playing fine come SEC and March Madness. We are 4-1 and the 1 loss by 4 points to Kansas for 5 starting freshman and Gabriel and SKJ.

Same for me.

Also goes for anyone who can't use: your/you're; there/their/they're; and to/two/too correctly.

That's third-grade English.
Agreed but those can get by with autocorrect and posting too quickly. If you misspell have, it's not going to change it to of.

PJ has really been a disappointment. Not active at all imo. Just seems to be coasting a little.

Not even close man. You’d be surprised how many intelligent young adults and adults who mess it up, especially you’re and your.

If I had a nickel for every term paper I’ve graded that was using the wrong tense or other I’d own this board.

Now too; to; two?

Would be slow imo.

My mom has a master's degree in English and was a grammar Nazi. She was harder on me about my spelling and grammar than my teachers. And I ended up editing newspapers and magazines for a decade.

Those peeves are just me being a grumpy old bastard.

I agree the your/you're is the most forgivable of the three I listed.

About 10 years ago I was having lunch at a Skyline Chili. While sitting there eating my lunch I heard a woman say she was a teacher. Every 5th word she said was "like". Could you imagine having someone like that teach your children. I ate the rest of my meal as fast as I could.

-Like, about, like, 10 years ago I was, like, having lunch at, like, a Skyline Chili..... Poor children.

My mom was an English teacher as well. I became a Math teacher. If I misspell a word or punctuate incorrectly, then I tell my class, "hey, I wasn't no English major".

Don't be alarmed, it's all in good fun.

Most games, the only competitors on the floor seem to be Knox and SKJ. Green, Alexander, and Washington are asleep at the wheel half of the time. Richards doesn't have the skill but will get there. Gabriel is not any better than last season. He's about as poised and coordinated as a newborn giraffe.

Sometimes even high school superstars never had to learn the basics of basketball, bounce pass, pivot, dribbling with you're off hand or going left if you are right handed, or blocking out among other things. Not learning those things at an early age will show when you have to play in a structured system, sometimes the basketball IQ isn't there. I think things can be fixed in time but like some have said, it's worrisome out there right now when certain ones are on the floor together
