as is with the possible return of Corey, couple more scorers (Mathis, Kiss and Harper), improved Doucoure, Thiam, Omoruyi and Baker, and headier taller front court addition (Carter) with the same level of defense next season will make a post season tournament (i.e. NIT or NCAA). We have been lacking another sharp shooter and scorer (inside or outside) to compliment what we have.

If we beat ILL and NW at home with a one or two in the BIG tourney I will be very excited going into the off season.

Let’s just win a basketball game, shall we and stop with this ridiculous postseason talk. We’re the worst team in the Big Ten.

Agree Bac..... all these other teams will have same players back even better or will reload good players. We will be a step behind for 2 more years.

Right now if we can win one or two more games including the tournament, we should feel semi-good knowing we played Michigan State and Purdue tough in two of three of those games. As for next year, I'm hoping we can finally have a winning season.

Next step is a winning record. Not sure it will happen next year especially if Corey doesn’t return.

Why do we constantly overrate our talent. I have no problem having hope or being optimistic, but let’s relax a minute. Even with all of the players you named, our depth is not great.

With another shooter THIS season RU beats Pur, MSU, NEB, StonyHartford at home THIS season and RU is in business for an above .500 year. Everyone’s tune would be different now with a 17-10 record and 5 conference wins. In game today RU played good enough defense to win with another scorer when it doesn’t get an A+ Corey performance. RU goes on these scoring droughts that just kill great rebounding and defense. RU had 20 offensive rebounds today! RU just needs more scoring weapons.

Beat ILL and NW at home with a win or two in BIG tourney and the naysayers will see the light to next season. This isn’t football folks this thing can turn around quicker than you think.

OP - read my post on next year with expected Big 10 returnees and recruiting classes etc. though talent is coming in we are a long ways from getting out of the basement. Let's shoot for not being in the bottom 4 which I think is 2 years from now hopefully

No. Next step is learning how to shoot. Everything else they're doing great, but they couldn't score in a brothel full of nymphomaniacs. If you want to win games you have to shoot much better than 20 to 30% from the field. Missing easy layups on a regular basis. Free throws, etc.

Look at the Purdue game. 31 of 64 from the field, 6 of 12 on 3 pointers, and 8 of 10 on free throws. Lost by 2 to the #3 team in the country. Shoot like that every game they have at least 4 more wins right now.

After today’s game I’m surprised that we have 2 B1G wins.

This team makes me yearn for the Freddie Hill teams that incld Mike Rosario and Greg Echinique.

At least we had some offensive skills on those teams.

You are setting yourself up for a long 18-19 if you think that there’s a B1G scorer among Mathis, Harper and Kiss in their first year. Best chance is for Baker maturing physically or someone teaching Thiam to shoot from above his shoulders.

This is the same woulda coulda thoughts that were said about last season with many close losses. Most league teams have had close losses. You are expecting that good but hardly highly regarded nnewcomers will be able to immediately step in and compete at a high level In the big 10...same thing was said last year for this. People assumed Doucoure would easily replace Gettys..Nigel's would be overcome...yet this team Is headed to less big 10 wins than last year...also just because this team played good defense doesnt mean It will click for 4 newcomers

To make the ncaa Rutgers would need 10 wins and at least 8 wins to flirt with the NIT..I see no avenue for this to happen next season

We’re an undersized, undermanned team that can’t shoot.

Dogged defense and sheer grit can win championships, but not without actual talent.

I’m tired of hoping year after year that when we add this player or that player but also have this guy return or hope this guy leaves so we can free up a scholarship we will finally make a post season tournament. While we could have won a few more games up to this point, we didn’t win them, and our record currently puts us in last place...again.

Until we actually prove something and make a post season tournament, I’m not going to expect a miracle in one off season where it all clicks for us. All of us know we need to be patient with this program, especially with it only being the second season after the Jordan debacle, and I think expecting a post season tournament next year is premature and unrealistic.

The loss of Gettys has really hurt. Doucoure shows potential but not much more.

Really think this point doesn’t get discussed enough. This team is getting nothing from the center position. Gettys would have made a world of difference on this team.

Right now...we have three meaningful pieces returning next year plus five newcomers

If we can say, 12 months from now , we have 5 meaningful pieces returning plus 3-4 newcomers...we will be on the right track

The roster turnover started this year with coach P’s first class on the court

This is just going to take a full 4 year recruiting cycle to get us the 8-9 pieces you need to be a NCAA team

If Baker can do it why can’t Mathis?

He can and I can see a 10 pog scoring average from him as a frosh

Next year...if Corey comes back...we would have three bonfide double digit scorer scorers starting at the 1,2, and 3

You need those 26 ppg per game at 4 and 5 spot. Think carter and Eugene get 16-17 in 50 minutes. Can doucoure get 5/6 ppg in 20
Minutes?

We can have much more scoring balance next year so there is hope for improvement. Lot depends on if Corey comes back ..and if so, can we get consistency that you expect from a leading senior?

Lots of good points on the wouldof and couldofs but the simple fact is RU with a shooter that it can count on to make 3-5 shots per game with the way defense has been played has 5 more wins and on track for a winning season. The scoring droughts RU goes through are just brutal.

Yea, Gettys would have helped us a lot You can't blame Doucoure too much though. He's trying. Doucoure is an 18? year old freshman, whereas Gettys was a senior. A lot of savvy and experience was lost there. Also, a more reliable post presence than Freeman. Omoruyi shows decent post moves, but he doesn't have the size of Gettys.

We are what we are. Rarely get off to a good start whether it's shooting or TOs and don't have the firepower to dig out of a hole. Today one less fg with 14 extra attempts. Not enough to win by making a few more, but maybe it changes the completion of the game early on. We almost have to play a perfect game in order to win.

What we can’t do is an o-fer the rest of the season. We need one preferably 2 wins this season. We definitely don’t want 20 losses.

We're 2 or 3 years away is nauseating already. Totally incorrect. I started hearing that in 1995. Have the balls to hire a slimy coach who will cheat his *** off, and end the madness already. College basketball has been a cesspool for eternity. What can they do to us? Vacate all of our NCAA wins the past 30 years?

I like your assessment and as far as the 4 & 5- I believe Myles Johnson is going to surprise a lot of people. He is going to make Doucoure a much better player or Doucoure will be sitting. I also like Doorson with a full year of no injuries, strength and conditioning, and that Senior mentality.

Actually...I planned to address this ...on where it went wrong. But there was two big factors that I though could happen that didn’t ...and it was the difference this year in a big way.

1) Not enough talent
2) Not enough talent
