2015 team would beat this team by 20+ easily.
This team is more like John Walls team exceptthis years team has 3 gaurds, not as good as rebounding or shooting, but more dominating and consistent and better at D.

I dunno about 20 plus, but I do think this team looks somewhere in between 10 and 12/15 in quality.

You all are underestimating the 2010 team. That team lost a total of 3 games, it's last being an absolute fluke that would've happened maybe once in 20 games, we just got the one. 2010 would have walked to the title if they even played mediocre against WVU.

This team looks like 2016/17 and nothing else. Every year we try to compare teams and it's never accurate.
This team is nothing like any team Cal has ever had. In fact, I don't think he's had two teams that were alike since he's been here. That would explain why so many people disagree and say "nuh uhhhh, this team is just like the 201* team, except these 14 things are different".

Just not enough info on this team yet,we didn't begin to see what we had in '12 until mid December so far as is the case with this team. The '15 team had the summer trip so they were ahead of schedule from the get go.There is more versatility with this team than there was with '10. We just don't know who this team is yet,as I said in an earlier thread I think this team has the potential to take a quantum leap in the latter part of December.Three or four different players could go to a whole other level. The willingness to learn seems to be something this whole team has that maybe the other teams didn't have(in as many different players)

Early Right now this looks like Cal's fourth-best team at a min. with a whole lot of room to move up.

Not sure about 20 plus...

I loved the Harrisons but Briscoe and Fox would've given them fits as well as a "2015 Ulis" and Booker.

Obvious KAT and depth would be a big advantage for 2015 but not sure enough for that big of a win.

That is a good call, not too sure they aren't eyeball to eyeball with '10 right now,I thought '15 would hit a whole other gear when NCAAT time rolled around but that never happened. I don't see this team as '12 good but there is a long way to go.Players like SKJ,Humphries and maybe a couple of others could change things more than anyone thinks possible.

excellent post

There are qualities to compare - especially on paper - but there are many differences too. I'm rather glad we don't see the exact same thing every year.

IMO this will be Cal's best team when its, said and done. The pace they can play and the defensive pressure they can put on is 2nd to none. Their ceiling appears to be higher then any of Cal's team IMO.

I agree, there are definitely some qualities that are similar to some other UK…… and non-UK teams.
But the only thing this team has in common with 2015 is the fact that this team has a lot of really good players, oh, and the same coach.
The only similarity to the 2010 team is at the pg position. Both were/are fast, very fast. Oh, and both teams had the same coach.
I get why some people try to make these comparisons, but when you look past the one thing that is similar you find that there really isn't much that justifies the comparison.

the biggest problem, IMO - is someone ends up suffering by comparison - which really isn't fair to the player There are always different circumstances to take into consideration.
Best example I can think of is Teague vs Ulis (yes I know those two haven't really been compared, but there is a point here); who would you consider the better point guard? Teague has a title, Ulis doesn't.

but I can almost guarantee nearly all of us would pick Ulis every single time

I don't think it's as talented as '10. Wall and Boogie are both better than anyone on this squad. That team was freakishly good. Don't let the end result change that.

Every single time and twice on Tuesday's and Saturday's (we usually play on Tuesday's and Saturdays, LOL).
But yes, excellent point. But I really liked Teague, not too many people speak highly of him, but he was a tough pg.

Agree on the Wall and Boogie take but there are more players and more athletic ability on this team, there is a lot of upside here.

Right now I think you are correct particularly before Poythress went down. The '15 front line would have gone completely over the heads of this team. The Harrison's would have brutalized our young guards, though Briscoe not so much.

Late in the year, this year's guards will be tougher. Bam will have matured and should be a stronger rebounder. '15 would have lost Poythress. Much closer game. Nod still goes to '15 though. This year has no answer to KAT nor the 7' spider (WCS). '15 by 10.

The one thing that nobody has mentioned yet, is the competition/field. We can be similar to any team from 2010 until now. The main issue is the strength of our competition. The Noel/Harrow team could have won it all if the majority and other top tier teams were a step below the norm (as well as no Noel injury against UF). This year, it's Duke, us, Nova, and an unknown (maybe IU, maybe KU. etc.) The strength of "the field" varies greatly from season to season, greatly affecting our image of ourself. Let's see how strong this year's field is before comparisons are made.

This team doesn't have a Cousins, but re: Fox and Wall...not sure Wall has the advantage in that one. Fox is beyond special.

Wall was too, but he was an absolute turnover machine. I never in a million years thought I would say this after getting to watch Wall in person about 20 times that year, but I like Fox just as much.

This team has more depth. Seems to have a penchant for missing open jump shots like that team. I like Briscoe on a wing much better than anybody that team had. The team defense is way ahead of where that team was at this same point (Sam Houston State on line one).

But like another poster said, we probably over-compare in the Cal era. I'm not sure why it's so enticing to try and find similarities between teams. Really the only thing you need to know about these guys is that they have the talent to win a championship. That's all that matters and I'm going to enjoy watching them grow.

oh I loved Teague - he was a quiet sort - but very tough, and invaluable in the tourney

LOL I almost finished my wording with "twice on Sundays" - GMTA :)

This team is already elite defensively, yet are nowhere near what they will be in March.

Last year's team was absolutely awful offensively at the beginning of the year from outside until Murray, Ulis, Briscoe discovered their roles. This year's team is above average offensively right now.

When Fox, Monk, Briscoe settle into their roles, and the post game develops, this team is going to be immensely better.
