This team will not win the NCAA

I can name several teams that can win it all, but we're not one of them. Let me ask you, name some things this team has improved on since the beginning of the season.

I can tell you that the defense is horrible, they play selfishly and their basketball IQ is questionable at best
It's a good thing we have a month and a half to go huh?

Why You say??? Because after 20 games they have not bought into the idea that you have to play defense. Yes they can score but as in all our losses we scored plenty of points to win,but the other team out scored us. UCLA has the offensive players to do it,but Tennessee and Louisville do not if you play average to good defense. You can get to the round of 16 without any defense but that is as far as you will go. In fact right now I can see UL going further than us on their defense alone. This may be the fallacy of the one and done player. His mind set is always showing his offensive skills so he can quickly go to the NBA. So if you are a Kentucky Fan I wouldn't get your hopes up too high.
NCAA! That thought seriously has not once crossed my mind! And I am a HUGE optimist!

Nova
Zona
Louisville ( with the right matchups )
UVA ( because of defense )
Guess there's a few more but there ya go..
Nova just lost to Marquette, they have more flaws than we do. UK lost to UL in the Yum by 3 points on their first true road game, UL has a low ranked offense too, they can get there, but I would take UK over them.
When has UVA ever done anything? They have had much better teams flame out by the sweet 16. You have to do more than just defend, that's why Florida State beat them at their place.
Zona, yeah, they're good, but they seem to flop in the tournament every year too.
Find another list, this one has flaws.

I have grown to understand NCAA titles are not easy to win and even we as UK fans only have 8 in our history to celebrate. And that is second all time. So no, this team does not have any one player that I feel confident will bring us a title, i.e. Anthony Davis. So we will have to pull a Fiddling Five to win it all this year. Our players are much too young and inexperienced to win 6 in a row in March and April unless they get every break in the book. I am hoping that happens but with one and dones it seldom does.

At least we can celebrate putting a few more freshmen in the NBA.

It is just a loss. UT was hungry. They will revert back for their next 5 and probably lose 3 of them. I was questioning this teams ability to win it all before this loss. Something just seems to be missing. Can't put my finger on it.

Not blaming it on Cal at all. If you're happy with just being good every year with the best freshman, cool.. other than our previous couch( two years ) UK has always been good bro, we're blue bloods.. At some point, you gotta win championships.. not SEC's either, been doing that way before Cal. Everybody gets on to KU because of their conference, we'll look at ours and still get beat by the bottom feeders.. take the glasses off and face it ...
I think you need to look much close at UK's results from 99-2008. We were a has been program those years.
Lots of teams would have lost that game last night, including all of those teams on your previous list. It was a road game, we field freshmen that make mistakes. We lost by 2 whole points to a team that damn near won in Chapel Hill.

How's it feel to be beat by a bottom feeder?
Cal is 12-4 against you bottom feeders, will pound you by 20 in Lexington and will go on to the tournament. UT will stay at home like usual. You concentrate on national signing day when you get another top ten class and yet not sniff a major bowl or the playoffs. Top ten classesand the title case of Vandy. At least Vandy is nationally relevant in baseball. You bottom feeders aren't relevant in any sports.

I'm still asking which one of those teams out there doesn't have flaws? UNC, Kansas, UCLA all have defensive issues. Nova gave up a 16-4 run to end the game. They couldn't score or stop Marquette on defense. FSU is really good but do you trust Hamilton in the tournament?

You could say "This team cannot win it all" to 9 out of 10 teams that we have ever had. There are many universities that can do the 10 out of 10 thing for their history. All I want as a fan is to be in the conversation, I have been around long enough to know. If we do win, treasure it for they do not happen with any regularity and when they do.....be proud. We lost to UT, so what get over it and move on.

lmao! Nova would whip our ***! UVA? Would slow us down and most definitely score on us.. UL already beat us and Zona would probably destroy us in gaurd play..

We, like all of the other teams, have flaws. No, we probably won't win it all, but we CAN. It takes a lot of luck. Our lack of defense is a major weakness, but it is for ,Kansas, UCLA, UNC, and many others as well,

Yeah, but why does there HAVE to be a rim protector to win it all? Villanova didn't have one, Duke didn't have one in 2015, did UL have one in 13, did Uconn have on in 11 or 14? If they did, it wasn't anyone any better than what we currently have.
Tournament play is a lot different than true road games.

I'm just talking about Calapari lead teams at UK. They have seemily always had an issue keeping players in front of them but always had a rim protector to clean up those mistakes. The past two years, what everyone has harped on is the Straight line drives. But UK has lacked a true rim protector this year and last year. I still think this team is capabable of going to the Final Four and winning a title but I'm starting to wonder if they are ever going to get better on the defense from a man to man sense.

Honestly no teams scare me this year...I feel like every contender team has flaws this year and still over a month of ball left to get things figured out. 1,2,3 or whatever seed we get I feel like we will be fine.

Plus you can't forgot about the "Tweaks" Cal will do before the big dance. Just saying...

Funny everyone complaining about the defense.

We gave up 82 points in 80 possessions. Not that it's great by any standards but given our ranking on defense which was 15th coming into the game and their mark on offense which is 48th we were expected to give up about 79 points in 79 possessions.

The issue is we were expected to score 90. We just didn't shoot well and turned the ball over more than we usually do

I'm not one to care much about the stats. I don't care what the stats say. I know what my eyes tell me. We've struggled to keep teams out of the paint most of the year. It's not just about how many points we give up but how we give them up. We're relying on just out scoring teams. That rarely ever works in the tournament for 6 straight games. You have to get stops. Those games are just played in a more methodical manner at a slower pace. Defense matters.

Did we not get stops when they had an 11 point lead and we cut it down to 2?

UT doesn't take many 3s. They drive and get fouled a ton.
Do you know who else couldn't keep them outta the paint?
Oregon game. 24 free throws
Gonzaga game. 33 free throws

Pretty good teams.

Also shot 39 vs Lipscomb, 33 vs South Carolina, 40 vs Chattanooga, 33 vs Arkansas.

No one is keeping them out of the paint.

For the past 7 years under Cal it's not been that teams couldn't drive vs us. It's that when they drove, a big was back there to block or alter the shot. And that's what we lack.

This game was on the offense tho. A team that never turns the ball over has turned it over quite a bit in the last three games and it needs fixed.

The defense is what is it.

The one good thing is that pretty much everyone lost last night. Everyone looked funky except for Louisville (ugh). There's no real super team out there this year. But we do need to come together and play our best to overcome our lack of a rim protector. 3 blocked shots last night would have changed the entire game, even with everything else the same. It isn't there this year, so we'll have to play perfect to win the NCAA... but so will any other team.

Well, let's just pack it up and call it a season. Even though their is still over a month left to improve and get things going defensively.

Villanova, UCLA, Louisville and Kansas off the top of my head. UCLA even ran us off our own home court.

Now your turn to answer my question
UCLA doesn't play defense and got abused on their own court last weekend. Villanova just got owned last night giving up a 16-4 run at the end of the game. UL can't score against good teams. Kansas just got scorched for 85 and will lose to UK this weekend. My answer to you is Cal will make the adjustments by March like he does every year. Four final fours and an Elite 8 in seven years support that. You just troll and blow smoke.

As I've asked before, what has this team really improved on since the beginning of the season?

Also, besides our love for Kentucky, what makes you think these things will be changed enough to really matter in a month and a half?

If we get Roger Ayers doing one of our games in tourney we will not win it. He is a punk UK hater and Cal never wins games he refs in hardly.

I will say this, they could win it all, but they very well could go out in the sweet 16 as well. The only way they win it all right now is to get hot and score a bunch of points which could be hard. Currently this team is not going to win with defense.

It's just like us losing last night doesn't really matter, it's one game. It's how we lost and how we've been winning lately. We've been winning because of talent, not because we're a better team. In March that will hurt you.

No one is arguing that Cal hasn't done a great job in his time here, we've just severely underperformed these past 2 years.

lol @ ran us off our court.

They won a two possession game.

and if our defense is too bad to win it, there's is way worse.

Really? There's more than just the final score. They had a double digit lead on us almost the entire game.

Their defense must not be that bad. I mean, they were able to stop us, right?

We also had a 9 point lead at the 10 min mark in that game. So it wasn't completely one sided. They only had a 4 point lead at the half.

And we put 92 on them. So no, their defense didn't stop us.

First of all we weren't waxed by UCLA. UL has lost four games and will lose more games. Except when Pintino cheated to get players, UL has been irrelevant since he has coached there. And I did answer you. I'm not worried if and how they have improved since the beginning of the year. They are a work in progress and it's January. Just like they were a work in progress in 2014 all the way up to SEC tournament. We know how that season ended. Cal will make the adjustments like he has before this year. You obviously think Kansas will win this weekend. Put your money where your mouth is. If Kansas beats UK I won't post again until next season. If UK beats KU you won't post again until next season. Deal?
