on a semi related note I believe the DNC moving the caucus out of Iowa will hurt them significantly. What’s hilarious is they’ve chosen one of the reddest states in America with SC. The democratic primary in South Carolina has a demographic that is much more similar to their voting base which will win battleground states. The democratic base in in Iowa might give a false impression of popularity...for example they might go for a green democrat, or somebody who is pushing progressive technology and investment in sciences, focused on climate change. South Carolina democrats are more interested in the economy, civil rights, social justice, voting rights.

I agree to an extent. I would say though given that Iowa is more moderate it would give them the best chance to vet a candidate to win a general election. With their current front runner candidates I don’t know how anyone one of them could win a general election.
Democrats have calculated they can't win without a huge African American turn-out...A guy like Buttigieg is going to get massacred in south carolina which will mirror turn-out on election day. Even Kamala, who is really unpopular with black males might have problems.

I liked Clinton. I voted for Obama once. I thought he was a facilitator, but the Trayvon Martin incident ended my support for him. I voted Biden only because I did not want Trump again.
I did not vote for Hillary or Kamala.
Immigration, illegal mainly has been kicked down the road since before Reagan. Ready source of cheap labor.
It is an issue anyone like me can relate too, especially once it became a conduit to bring questionable folks here. Cuban boat lift was first time I remember actual prisoners, criminals being sent here.
Trump hit a chord with many fed up with this immigration issue. I will not lie, I think it is decades overdue.

Democrats just have to decide if they want to win (Newsom) or if they want to have a certain "identity" win. Newsom's main weaknesses are his scandals which doesn't matter post-Trump but he will appeal to a lot of moderates and men of color. He is basically a younger and smarter version of Biden who has actually lead something. Whatever you want to say about his politics, running one of the most powerful states in the world is a lot harder than sitting in congress. He is psychopath and creep, but I think Trump showed that having those qualities can make you a very good politician.
Desantes vs. Newsom would be a fun race. Both are intelligent, willful, not Maga but I don't think Desantes will get Trump's blessing. I think that will be the undoing of 2028 for the republicans. Trump holds so much power that they are stuck with his preference vs. the one most likely to beat Newsom.
