Really good points Wrassler. I'm also interested to see of how PSU evolves going forward. I'm hoping this 4 or 5 champion thing is more of a once or twice in a lifetime collection of talent rather than a new paradigm going forward.

After Nolf and Nickal graduate, I could see something more like 5 or 6 semifinalists each year with 2 to 3 ending up champs. There is just too much elite talent spread around to expect 5 champs from them every year. But they certainly have momentum built up from their recent success. That has allowed them to stockpile top wrestlers in case someone doesn't work out. The 141 transfer Cortez was a top 20 recruit who was only ranked around 15th before getting injured. No problem, they just plugged Lee in at 141 and he AAs to help them edge tOSU.

I agree 100%. I don't think they are going anywhere. My point was I just think the 4 or 5 champions a year is a blip in the radar and not an overall trend. They will still be the team to beat regardless.

Yes, I agree with you. I guess I should have just added that I think they will be more "within reach" in the coming years. Now we - administration, coaches, boosters, fans, wrestlers - need to do our part to close that gap even more.

I agree and have said this before if you are not a blue chip recruit you should be a walk on especially with everyone getting instate tuition unless you break into the starting lineup. We need to really scout and get 1 or 2 elite recruits a year ( I know easier said then done but with our history and very motivated, personable hard working coaches recruiting we could get this done. I am talking top 10 or top 20 recruits who not only have results but have attitudes I want to be the best( and I am not just talking verbalizing this) Bison recruits I have heard say I want to be a 4 time national champ. For 2019 we got the HWT we need 1 more elite recruit that year. 2020 these 3 have been mentioned not just by me ( Plott, Ferrari and Vasquez). Our lineup could be 25= Fix, 33=?. 41=Gfeller, 49=Vasquez, 57=Plott, 65=Zane Coleman, 74=Whitlake. 84=Montalvo. 97=Ferrari. HWT=Kerkvliet. Of course this is hypothetical but that lineup with development could match anybody.

All year long I saw us get upset many times and us getting upsets you could count with 2 fingers. This didn't occur just at Nationals. it was going on all year. Everyone knows I have concerns every year but not like I had this year. Also I watched lots of duals on flo ( I live 400 miles away) and many of those duals were not exciting. I remember coach Smith say many times I don't like 0 to 0 matches after the first period Fans especially casual fans want to see exciting wrestling, well like most of Penn. St wrestlers and watch guys who upset highly ranked wrestlers. Kaid can be exciting on his feet but when he is ridden for 3 minutes where he can't get off his stomach in a match isn't. Chandler can be very exciting but sometimes he doesn't show. A confidant Jacobe can be exciting. I pointed out concerns Picc couldn't get on an opponents legs with any shot but won because when he was going to wrestle real good opponents he would be in big trouble. My expectations are higher than most here but this year we could have increased our performance next year by getting a little more success and development this year.

I agree with some of your points about recruiting. I have to believe that Tyler is all over putting a strategy and approach in place that will pay dividends.

I've got some ideas on recruiting as well that I'll post about later.

It is fair to point out that college wrestling has experienced a boom of talent and parity at many levels and upsets happened all over the place this year with several former AA's failing to repeat outside of a few of our guys. World champ Lewis didn't AA. Look at guys like Massa, Jordan, Moore, Thorn, Sorensen, Oliver, Milhoff, Schram, Thomsen, Chizko, LaVallee, Foster, and Hall who all were dealt upsets or failed to AA.
