This makes Cal look really really really bad.

Cal is a sales guy, not a coach.
Exactly.
He sold getting OADs for UK while other coaches viewed them as headaches and not worthwhile.

He had success with it. However, other coaches including coach K caught on that they had been undervaluing OADs and started recruiting OADs more aggressively. Which is why Cal's recruiting dominance is over. We are not recruiting a couple of top tens if not top fives like we have in years past.

This is what he sold UK and made bank. As far as coaching goes, he can't coach. Period.

You’re delusional if you don’t think he cares about Kentucky or its fans. Btw, why in God’s name would you bring up Rick Pitino in that context? Oliver Simmons? Didn’t he bail on Kentucky as well. I’d rework your talking points.
I think he was trying to tell you he is and always has been a UK fan, whereas many on here seem to be a coach fan. He also wonders if you ever attended a game at Memorial, or ever met any of our past coaches. So instead of you responding to his questions, you decide to throw shade.

There’s no rational reason he’s been stuck to the bench before tonight.
I don’t think anyone was asking for Dontae to start and play 32 mins a game...but there’s no reason he wasn’t getting 10-12 min a game. Anyone who has ever Coached any level of BB knows that a shooter spreads the floor and opens up driving lanes. Having Dontae out there actually HELPS Boston and Sarr...why doesn’t a 10mil a year Coach know this before tonight?

There’s been a lot of shade thrown on this forum in recent weeks. Sorry you hypercritical “fans” are so touchy.

Not playing a zone against UConn in the championship still pisses me off.
Louisville beat them by 30 points a few weeks earlier and we know Pitino was not a big zone fan but they played it exclusively in that game.
Plus not playing Ulis in the last five minutes of the game against Wisconsin, where we had three consecutive shot clock violations, letting Brandon Knight go totally rogue during the 2011 FF game without making one single adjustment or allowing West Virginia to go off from the three point line while sitting there doing nothing. He's a terrible bench coach and everyone in the country knows it.

I'm not super mad at Cal.

Allen has looked shaky in past games leading up to his breakout last night.

It was also obvious that Allen became more comfortable as the game wore on.

I figure that he's probably not looked great in practice, and still is relatively slow, but if he can build on this performance, and play with confidence going forward, he really opens things up for us.

It's great that Cal has valued defense in the past, but he's gonna need to make adjustments in his coaching philosophy going forward to get guys like Allen on the floor.

I don't see any benefit to bashing Cal about this anymore.

He saw it, and we all saw it...Nothing else needs to be said.

Lets just turn this **** around and go win some games!!

Allen won’t have 23 every night, but at this juncture he seems to be our best offensive weapon. By playing him he is always a threat and will draw the other team’s best defender which hopefully opens up the floor. Time to scrap the pack the lane and drive into traffic. Spread the floor open up the middle and kick to Allen for 3!!!!

I am not touchy. My skin is like leather, tough as can be. I was trying to explain his post to you so you can understand before you continue to make such a fool of yourself.

good post, much to Be agreed on. But still big questions about how Cal handles the guard position going forward . I’d say if DA has a bad night shooting the Three the same cast of characters will be blasting he is a defensive liability , slow , lost etc etc and etc . Basically Trust Cal and never ever question him .

This team is better with Allen on the floor, surely Cal saw that tonight. As everyone has said, its not only his shooting, it the way he opens up the floor for everyone else. If Allen doesn't start, he better play 25-30 minutes every game...
Part of the reason they're better with Allen on the floor is that Boston is off the floor.

you guys act like this is the first time that this has ever happened. It isn't. They even made a great movie about such a scenario. It is called , "One on One". I recommend it. It was actually based on John Wooden, who wasn't the nice guy everyone tends to believe he was...

What cult are you a part of? The cult of the hall monitors, the assistant principals, or the Karens? It could just as easily be any of the three.
Spambooger is literally the worst poster on here. Even if someone isn’t being negative, they are always trying disavow the poster. They are in insufferable.

Obviously Cal's strategy is to go all in on his 5 stars because their upside is usually (but not always) higher than others on the team. He sticks with them until they start accelerating up the learning curve maximizing their abilities and contribution to the team by tourney time. This often works for him - but not always.

Boston and Clarke have shown little improvement through 7 games. At some point collateral damage to the team, fans and the season need to be weighed against "embrace the process".

A 1-6 team desperate for scoring (and the resulting spacing etc) while keeping a shooter like Allen on the bench just shows Cal to be stubborn and inflexible to a fault. It took an outcry from the fanbase, the media, Clarke sitting out and Cal getting ejected to illustrate this necessary change.

Very obvious to the majority of fans that Cal is hard headed and a poor X’s and O’s coach. I don’t know why people continue to support him but that’s their choice so no need to to argue that at this point. I’m just extremely happy that DA had the tremendous game that so many (other than his coach) knew he had in him. I hope he’s walking on air today..... he certainly earned and deserves all of the praise he’s getting. Great job !!
