This is why Kirk will never make the CFP

He always has a game or two like this in the regular season. Zero reason for that last sequence of plays. Almost like Kirk thought he was playing for OT. At least we get to enjoy the Outback Bowl again.
Tim Lester called a bad game IMO, but Iowa doesn’t have a quarterback. You can’t win anything of consequence without a quarterback. Is Hecklinski great? No. But he gives you a much better chance to move the chains and score points than Hank Brown does IMO. Regardless, I have no idea why Brown has such a long leash and Heck can’t even get a full half without getting yanked. That missed throw to DJV on 3rd down was absolutely egregious.

Every quarterback has bad throws and has bad moments, but Iowa quarterbacks are more consistently bad than they are good. And it’s pretty f#cking old tbh.

We’ll see how Iowa responds to this game and how the rest of the season goes, but I am just so bored with garbage quarterback play. It’s to the point I am ready for Kirk to retire. The offense may be better than it was when Brian was OC, but it’s still not good. Minnesota is not some defensive juggernaut. They just gave up over 40 points to Purdue. Iowa comes off a bye and outside of two pass plays on one drive looked downright dreadful.

It’s old. And it’s never going to change with Kirk. It’s as predictable as Iowa running on second down after a first down incompletion.

I’m ready for a change.

This was an ominous BF flashback today. If we didn’t run the ball 100% of the 2nd and 7-10 plays, it was darn close.

We’ve all been hoping that TL was in full control of the offense. But offense was Looking awfully familiar today.

Iowa's offense will never substantially improve while KF is here. It's essentially the exact same thing year in year out, just with a little variance in the level of mediocrity depending on who the OC is and the exact personnel we have on the field in any given year. Brian Ferentz took things to shocking lows, though.

I've become pretty apathetic. Iowa is decent enough under KF, but you know there is zero chance of them ever being a threat in the playoff. I'm not emotionally invested in it anymore. I feel a lot like I did later in the Fran McCaffery era on the hoops side.

It is an interesting point. Nepotism really came back to bite both Fran and Kirk. Kept some really special things from happening by favoring their sons like they did.

Except for the fact that Iowa would have been in the playoffs at least a couple times if having had the current playoff structure

You’re pretty much forced to run on 2nd and long a high percentage of the time.

Definitely something that makes throwing on 1st down not as important as people believe it to be.

And all 4 OC's have run distinctly different offenses. Stop with the laughable narratives

Well, unless he retires, unfortunately, 8-4 is gonna have us on the cusp of the new 24-team playoff model every year going forward.

So on the positive side, we can have absolute dogsh** performances like yesterday that completely expose that we're not a serious threat to compete at a high level.............and still have a solid shot at making the 24 team playoff! 😃

Making a 12 team playoff is simply too much for the talent level we have. It also requires beating the teams you're supposed to, which is something we don't always do thanks to the brand of football we play. A 24 team playoff is much more doable for what we work with.

Eyes of Retard being stupid? Must be a day that ends in Y! Glad I don't have to read whatever nonsense he posted.

Too much for Iowa talent?

Yet Iowa would have made a 12 team field had it existed in prior seasons.

And have I not heard you say Iowa could have been undefeated last season? Must have been a huge fall off in talent this year.

Go Hawks!
