The FT line will be our Achilles heel, after the MSU game we will have a better understanding of how hard it will be to overcome. We might be so talented it does not matter that we cant hit free throws.

Correct. The thought of purposely keeping the ball out of Trevon, Marvin and Wendell’s hands late doesn’t sound very appealing.

End of game situations with narrow leads could cause tinkering by K with the lineup depending on ft shooting percentage. Hopefully its a moot point and moves up to an acceptable conversion rate.

One trend that I’ve noticed in recent years is that a majority of the players that are poor free throw shooters are big guys (power forwards and centers) which I’ve always found strange because other than guards, it’s power forwards and centers that are most likely to get to the free throw line a lot.

To add something to my post that I forgot to add earlier. I know it’s still really early in the season but looking at stats from our first 2 games. We have 4 players that are shooting 50% or less from the free throw line so far and they’re all bigs. Hopefully at least a couple (if not all) of those guys improves from the free throw line throughout the season and they’re around at least 70-75% by the end of the season.

Vrankovic is our best free throw shooting big. Would love to see him become good enough to earn end game minutes. If anything for offense/defense subs.

Don’t get me wrong free throws are a concern at this moment. But carter shot 3 of 4 in game 2. Also bagley’s shot looks good and has good touch. I tend to think they start going down for him. Similar to Winslow. Heck he had 2 to 3 in the last game that were half way down before falling out. It isn’t like he is plumlee or oak where he looks very uncomfortable shooting it

I was trying to find a thread to mention a thread that I just saw on RR and this is probably the most fitting thread for it. A poster named oldsports_ started a poll asking if Duke will go 40-0. It seems like they have like 4-5 Duke threads for every UK thread that they have. They’re obsession with Duke lately is bordering on becoming unhealthy.

I believe this as well. I think their form looks fine, and when those shots are on the way, they look good. Its not like they are air balling it or clanking it flat. I believe this will improve imensely

Trust me, I don’t think it’ll happen, I just think it’s hilarious that a Kentucky fan started a poll on RR asking if Duke will go 40-0. Not to mention the countless other threads that they’ve had about Duke in the last few days. Including another thread asking how they’d feel if Grayson were a Wildcat. They’re truly scared of how good Duke should/could be this season.

Found this awesome quote in an article I found on yahoo regarding Duval...The completely terrifying part gave me chills...

"Duke’s ceiling remains completely terrifying if Duval can continue to play like this. In a star-studded Champions Classic that was filled with freshmen talent, Duval was arguably the best among his classmates when it came to making winning plays"

The FT line will be our Achilles heel, after the MSU game we will have a better understanding of how hard it will be to overcome. We might be so talented it does not matter that we cant hit free throws.

Luckily, we can have Grayson or Trent Jr handle the ball in the last 3-4 minutes of a tight game. Both of those guys are money at the FT line. Wouldn’t be surprised if K uses Goldwire occasionally toward the end of games since he’s a good defender and much better FT shooter that Duval. Do agree that we are going to have to suffer like our opponents have forever when they would have 2 guys that could hit FTs consistently and we had 4 guys who were all over 80%.

Couldn’t believe that our FT % made was under 50% going into the MSU game.

I hope K has em shooting 500 a day after practice. If we could hit FTs at a normal Duke clip I don't think dominant would be enough to describe this team.

I still say their form and shot doesn't look bad. I have confidence that we see quick improvement. We'll see.

This team is scary talented. Still very early. Looks like a 1999 team all over again - only better, with a true PG.

The sky's the limit.

When you put them side-by-side, you can see the similarities. From the little we’ve seen so far, I’d say the current bunch has the potential to be better defensively, but I’m not sure the current team will ever score as ‘easy’ as the ‘99 team.

But this is definitely a throwback kind of team, by Duke standards.

Agreed. The uptempo nature of this team is also something we haven't seen in a while. It should be a lot of fun watching these guys play.
