Simple questions:

1. Did Sharpe tell Cal he wasn't playing in February?

2. Did Sharpe tell Cal he'd likely "test the waters" in the Spring (at the same meeting)?

Go back and read the Cal transcript from the post-Sharpe meeting.

Then, once you see that the answers are both affirmative, come back here and tell us all that Cal expected the kid to come back and "lead us" next year, which is exactly what Cal said after points 1 and 2 were declared by Sharpe himself.
Things change all the time. My guess is that if Sharp was slipping down the draft board then he would have returned. If he stayed high then he would go. Why return if looking like top 5-10. Who cares? He never played here. There’s possible down side to Cal kicking him to the curb with future recruits.

The problem with your rebuttal is that none of the draft boards had Sharpe slipping. At any point. Ever.

So what changed?

Also, kicking Sharpe to the curve would have hurt us with no one that actually wants to play college ball. Maybe it would hurt us from landing a Jalen Green type, who might just want to do the same thing Sharpe did.

But Cal sells these kids on "I can't hide you", "this isn't for everyone", and "it's not easy here." That's how he gets the Maxeys and the Shais and the De'Aaron Foxes of the world. Those guys actually want to embrace the grind. The Sharpes and Kumingas of the world could give a crap. All it would cost Kentucky is a shot at the laziest and most self-indulgent of the elite prospects - which is to say, it wouldn't have cost us a thing.

Allowing Sharpe to sit the bench and use the program while his teammates feet bled from overplaying was a complete contradiction in those values.

Once again, I'm baffled that you and some others can't see this.

We will be worse than we were last year because with each passing season Cal gives less and less of a ****. About Kentucky basketball and Kentucky fans especially. All you idiots defending him at every cost, he doesn’t give a single **** about you, hates your guts actually.
We now are they only none and done program. I was kind of used to talent not ready for the league jumping ship every year, but now we have kids coming in to use our team for practice dummies (and NIL money). At least in the past you got a sub par season out of them before some of them left.

Recruits have quit buying in that they need to go to Kentucky to be a OAD. Anthony Edwards played at one of the worst teams in the conference and was #1 pick. Now coaches are saying Cals offense has prevented future NBA stars from being spectacular college players and hurting their stock. The kids seem to be getting really good fast in the NBA while putting up average stats at UK..

Do you really believe Cal thought Sharpe would be back after he met with him in February and Sharpe said 1. he wasn't playing for the 2022 team and 2. he was probably going to test the NBA waters?

Do you really, actually, mindfully believe that?
It wouldn't be like the first time, Diallo sit out and came back. Besides, what would the optics look like if Cal had kicked him off the team. I would have went to UL or Tenn and played if Cal did that to me

So you would have left the team in February, transferred to Tennessee or UL after the season just to spite a coach and pass on a top 7 draft spot?

No. No you wouldn't have.

I’m not saying he ever skipped. What I’m saying is that when he signed on, his thought process may have been that if he skipped down the board he would have come back. If not then go. As far as seeing what you want, I have zero facts shown on this board that it was anything but a wait and see before making a decision. Just because he may have known for a while doesn’t mean he knew coming in. People on here only want to blame and hate with their own assumptions.

This is the same Cal who has coached NBA expediency guys like Skal, Vanderbilt, Briscoe, etc.; the same coach who understands that when a top 10 pick tells you he's "testing" the waters, he's gone.

And you want us to take all that sample size and believe that Cal was suddenly Mr. Gullibility?

That's an absurd suggestion on your part. Absolutely absurd.
So you think Cal should have kicked Sharpe off the team if he did find out in February that Sharpe was going to enter the draft. Great take for future recruits.

Missing the point. Not disagreeing with you. If you can play, you can play. Coaches can have some effect though.

There are no assumptions.

1. Sharpe was draft eligible since before he came to Kentucky in January.

2. Cal knew this.

3. Sharpe's draft status has always been top 10 pick.

4. Cal knew this.

5. Sharpe told Cal he wasn't playing this year.

6. Cal wanted him to play.

7. Sharpe told Cal he'd likely test the waters as far back as February.

8. Despite all of the aforementioned points, you expect us to believe that Cal suddenly went from the most-experienced coach who has ever worked with NBA draft realities to a coach who just...kinda...sorta...gullibly...golly gee...hoped that the kid would be the first top 5-7 pick in his entire coaching career to want to return to school? Even after all the red flags of not wanting to play and telling Cal he was going to test the waters?

Nope. I can't join you and go off that waterfall of bliss in your barrel of pleasant hopes and fancies.

Kyle Tucker reported that Cal knew. Get on twitter and ask him. Pretty sure Cal's silence speaks volumes. He should have throttled Tucker if he was speaking falsely. He said zippo.

Cal doesn't throttle Tipton when he craps all over him. I doubt that he is going to throttle Tucker. Personally, I would rather Cal explain it, if he ever cares to do so. As someone who is in the public eye, I don't respond to a lot of stuff and don't always explain why I did what I did. It doesn't matter. My supporters give me the benefit of the doubt or ask me personally why I did what I did. The critics are never satisfied. If Cal explained it all in any kind of rational way, most of this board would just call him a liar.

Honestly, I don't really care or pay attention to him, Trump, Biden, Pelosi, Coach K, Roy, Self, Matt Jones, and on and on and on. I never know when any of them are telling the truth and when they aren't. It doesn't really affect my life one way or the other most of the time. Not sure why so many are butthurt over Sharpe situation. It really doesn't affect my life or yours.

I expect you to know you don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. If Cal wanted him to play and he refused, Cal has two options.
I have no pleasant hopes as I watch when they are good and don’t when they are not. Im just not overly emotional about things I can’t control and if UK doesn’t play a second of ball next year, I’ll be fine as I have other things I enjoy doing.
Im just not going the poor us fans route because it’s simply not that important. It’s entertainment.

Cow just wore me down has gotten worse ever year since Wisconsin loss.
Ya know what.. same **** actually happened to me. I almost sent a smart *** reply to your first comment about how ppl on here care too much about UK bball and then I realized how that actually happened to me after the Wisconsin game and I have posted that on here several times about that game taking something out of me as a fan but whatever it did to me I haven’t ever been the same fan that I was before that night we lost to Wisconsin and that’s the truth!! I never actually went completely away or just completely stopped watching UK games but I definitely slowed down on giving a ****. So I get it and understand what you mean and how you say that about the Wisconsin game taking it out of ya.

Let’s everyone freak out again on Calipari lol. Who wouldn’t have taken a chance on Sharpe? Every coach would’ve. No one can control the situation that happened. Relax people. Oscar is coming back. We don’t even know the majority of players who will be in the team yet. But Kentucky will be real good. You people are absolutely crazy. You want to know why there were rumors about Sharpe staying? Bc everyone knows how I sane some of you are. Why wouldn’t they want to toy with you ? I’m not sad at all. We get Oscar back! Let’s gooooo!!!

You’re belittling what Cal did here. He either got played, or he played the fanbase, used UK's resources and lied. Either way, he should feel a hell of a lot of heat for a long time on this.

You don't pull this **** at UK, especially after 9-16, Evansville and Saint Peters.
I don’t disagree. He got played. I thought he was more savvy than that. But I think the sharpes were the architect of the lies. That’s all I’m saying. I don’t want to see them skate with the fanbase. They are getting off too easy

The idea that every coach would take a chance on Sharpe is not true. There are still plenty of coaches who do their homework before they give away a scholarship. Character still counts and the university still matters. Some are smart enough to realize that you build for the long term. They plan with the end in mind.

No. He said he was keeping the option open to return.

aren’t you the guys who told me to keep reading?
Literally the only thing the guy put out is that he was testing the water, and keeping the option to return open. And that is exactly what he did.

PJ, The Harrison’s, and many others have done the same.
I’m not saying he’s coming back, but people are seeming really jerking when literally nothing has changed…

Yet, this board went ape when someone posted on twitter that Sharpe wasn't eligible for the draft. Way back when it was also a major discussion: Is he or isn't he? How do we know that Cal KNEW he was eligible when it was so debated? BTW, that is a serious question.
While Cal didn’t come right out and say so, he definitely tried his best to give reasons for everything that was happening. If Sharpe was pulling some tricks on him, he certainly didn't do much to stop them. He rode the Sharpe train right to the end and tried to get us to look the other way. He was being deceitful at best.

What can’t I process? I’ve never said I’m for or against Cal as coach. I really don’t care who coaches but until we find someone better, there’s no reason to change. Also no reason to cry like a baby every day when nothing is going to change. Grow up and move on…. Or just continue throwing a tantrum with no changeable outcome. On the other side you have zero first hand knowledge of what Cal knew. You are just making stuff up. If you do, feel free to share the evidence. Or just make up more stuff.
Cal has been outcoached by everyone from Tom Crean, to Buce Weber and Shaheen, but you think we can't find anyone better?

Rick Barnes and Bruce Pearl have been slapping Cal around for years and doing it with less talent, but you think we can't find anyone better? Hilarious.
