Just posted that pike made a real mess by trying to make Paul a point and geo a two guard and we are so far out of whack because of it

Coaching created a lot of things mess . Way too much thinking going on and not enough playing
Who in their right mind would try to make Paul a point guard? Just completely ridiculous.

Starters need to be Geo, Ron, Cliff, Jones, Hyatt. Get Miller in the Rotation. Mulchay 6th man, Miller 7th, Mcconnell/Agee 8/9.

I cant stand our Rotations - play the best guys and get them a break for a few minutes. We did this last year as well where we’d sit guys for way too long.

We need to CRASH the boards. All 5 guys rebounding. It’s obvious no one is having fun. Push the **** pace like we have in the past. Infuriating

The only way it won't get worse is if we make a huge splash in the portal this off-season. Nothing suggests that Pike can do this though

PAC: T. Smith out, Amari out, Lamb out 1/2 the game - wouldn't write off the season just yet. Will come down to matchups in the playoffs.

Is not ridiculous at all because there aren’t any better options. He’s the best passer they have and can dribble drive to the lane.

I’m not an apologist for anyone but there aren’t legit PGs on this team. PM is the best hope there

It's ridiculous there isn't a better 1 on the team. Slow and tall aren't good attributes for a point guard.

Tall isn’t a problem…but yes slow is. So if not Paul, who ? Geo is a little quicker, but doesn’t pass and loves his iso.

You are saying it’s ridiculous, so who is a better option there ?

Especially when Cliff abandons ship
if it is as bad as you say.. he will leave when the semester ends.. how scary is that? I bet he has hangers-on and minions of other programs chirping in his ear already because of this sign of weakness.. and NIL makes it more likely than not because of what others might promise to vulture struggling programs..

you are still on the Jones train?

I think Pike was right to play him sparingly.. this last game with more time for him showed that.. what game were you watching?

Now.. if you want to surrender this year and get massive experience for a youth movement.. that's another story. Oh.. you mentioned Miller... maybe you are going YOUTH.

BTW.. Paul's main problem at point is that he is looking for open guys to pass to.. cutters.. and we have a bunch of guys standing around. (I do not me taking a breather at the start of a possession.. we play hard D.. we should do that when in a half-court offense.. but if they are still standing around with 15 seconds left on shot clock.. ouch)

Now, tomorrow night.. I bet they move on offense for about 4 minutes.. then revert to standing around again. Coach will convince them to try it.. but they just won't do it.

I don't get the love for Jones.
Terrible on D.
And supposed to be an O threat but ..................where have there been any signs of it
Oh yeah, his first touch was a corner three the other day but after that........

Part of me wants to see the whole thing blow up so I don’t have to care anymore. I saw them win a game in the tournament. I’m good.

I’m still hoping and praying I get to construct a mea culpa thread of apology after witnessing an amazing transformation and turnaround of this team.
I wanted to answer "crow" to BAC's favorite Thanksgiving Food thread but will have to keep it in the freezer for another month but hope to have to thaw it out soon.

Without a true point guard ( as we had with JY and his faults ) and for some unknown reason any semblance of a D we are not going anywhere. If Mulcahy doesn’t see we are a poorly coached team then that says a great deal. Admittedly we listened to PiKiel tell the fan base in pre-season this will be his best team since he signed on . At this juncture we don’t control the stubbornness of the coach and the lack of effort by the players. Did anyone remind the players and staff of the most important part ? Not every team gets a trophy.

What if our best lineup right now is Cliff Ron Geo Paul and Caleb. Pike thinks it is and I think he is in the best situation to know.

Can anyone recall a credible coach announcing pre-season that "this is my best team"? You simply don't do that for a number of reasons.

@GoodOl'Rutgers Not agreeing or disagreeing on Jones yet, he’s young and will make mistakes and have off nights so I want to a watch a handful of more games with him before forming an opinion. At this point he’s not done anything better or worse than Mcconnell and we already know what kind of player Mcconnell is.

Hopefully they wake up soon - tough stretch coming up. Offense needs to move to your point. The stand and shoot offense doesnt work (clearly). Could be a long season

I was only referring to Jones NOW.. in this last game. Prior to that, in limited play, his shooting was great. I am a Jones fan for the future... if he starts playing Pike's D properly it should be a bright future for him. Could be the first step toward a team that can knock down threes like most good teams can do.

The thing is, even if there are mea culpa threads in the future (and I hope there are because that would mean we turned things around), everyone is justified in their reactions to the mess we have been watching. This is some of the worst offensive basketball I have seen this program play in recent memory.

Skill wise, you would think it should be. But players have regressed, and roles are not clearly defined with this lineup. If they were, the line up would be decent.

adding to your response to GRF... is what we are seeing showing us the value of a real point guard? If Paul were smaller and faster, would we be a lot better? I would think this standing-around offense really needs a penetrator who can dish... we don't have that anywhere.. unless it is Miller on the bench.. so, to me, the answer is to STOP STANDING AROUND.
