I don't doubt there is a "blueblood bump" at play in some of this. The other part of it may be that scouts and recruiting services are just paying more attention to him than they were. And there is also the likelihood that he has improved since he was last evaluated. That does happen. :D

You got that right. There’s so many negative UK fans out there. It makes me sick. They are an embarrassment to the BBN. We don’t need those fair weather fans. We have way too many already.
Despite people informing you as to what a "fairweather fan" actually is- you still manage to use it incorrectly. Congratulations you're the Dumbass Of The Day!

They literally haven't watched him play since AAU ball last summer and the early part of his senior year. And that's the case for most of the 2022 class. They caught some high profile tournaments in December and some high profile state playoff games in the bigger districts, but the vast majority of their evaluations for the 2022 class in this newest update was based on highlight videos.

At least their 2023 and 2024 rankings updates will be based on the AAU circuit games that took place a couple weeks ago.

How is wrong to classify those who don't support the coach and team when things get tough for a few years as fair weather fans? That's the very definition of a fair weather fan and this board is littered with them.

This kid is Schrodingers recruit. Idt any of the “scouts” have even seen him play in person.

fair weather fan (plural fair weather fans) (sports, idiomatic) A fan who only pays attention to their favorite team when they are performing well.

That's the definition. It doesn't apply. You're stupid too.

Good lord, the definition I gave is a common usage.

I posted just yesterday that he was not the typical 3 star. This kid is good! He is getting the recognition that he deserves. It has nothing to do with signing with a top team except maybe he is just getting some attention now.
Maybe. It would have been interesting to see if he picked Xavier instead if the number would have been different.

Fair weather fans would not be on a UK message board, going to games, interacting with the program, and calling for improvements during down times. Fair weather fans, largely, would have already jumped ship. They most certainly would not be here day after day during the current run we are on.

How this is hard to understand is beyond me. It’s self explanatory.

I don't know about how much he has improved and I don't know the backstory that was posted on the other thread when he signed, but this kid is definitely talented. Someone mentioned a growth spurt and dealing with an injury. This is a kid who was flying under the radar and we are blessed to have him.

My understanding is that he was already due for a bump up as he had grown some and played well last season.

Maybe being a Kentucky commit accelerated that bump and maybe they placed him even higher than they were going to, but I doubt it because it’s not like he’s now ranked exceptionally high.

I hope he has the patience to sit a couple of years, because it’s pointless to even talk about him if he’s a guy that’s going to hit the transfer portal after a year.

Kind of odd that 4 stars now goes all the way into the 120s
The recruiting site rankings are better than nothing, but they get it wrong quite a bit. And I think they rank based on potential more than anything, such that they're a better tool for the NBA than for college coaches.

I love that Keegan Murray was, if I'm not mistaken, unranked after high school. He and his brother Kris then spent an extra year at DME Academy to improve their skills, resulting in Keegan earning a 3-star rating and ranking him #334 in the country from 247sports.com. Rivals doesn't rank him nationally, but he's 3-stars and they considered him the 43rd best SF in his class.

Now Keegan is projected to possibly go at #3 in this recent mock draft:

This kid will never see the floor. Allen who was a (4) star ranked in the top 75, how did that work out? Cal is a joke.

I read somewhere earlier that he was 6'0" at the start of his senior year, so he's already grown 5 inches since then. His dad is 6'10" and his mom is 6'4" and was a WNBA draftee. I think he's going to grow some more and be *really* good in a year or two. The stars aren't everything. See my post above about Keegan Murray.
