Thiero as the backup 4?

I think he just needs minutes. If CJ is still a little shaky, then give some of his minutes to Thiero..

CJ isn’t shaky. The offense is shaky. Reeves didn’t get shots either.

We can’t look for a drive or post every pass and ball stop. Shooter thrive on pass pass…swing the ball…move the d situations

You get poor shooting when guys are forcing shots under 5 in the shot clock

Well, maybe both.

CJ was fine making these shots against nobodies.. what happened tonight? Did MSU's aggressiveness spook him a bit? CJ really did not have a good game on either end of the ball. He sent low bounce passes that almost got picked off.

He got the ball plenty of times and chose to pass it up. Not every shooter is going to get the ball wide open.

Cal doesn’t play small ball undersized 4s. He’d rather have a bunch of guys clogging the lane.

Some horrendous lineups he had out there tonight. Most time should be between the following:

Oscar
Toppin
Wallace
Reeves
Wheeler
Frederick
Ugo

Livingston might play his way in with spot PT here and there, ware and Collins should see limited minutes and Theiro would need to see more (some) in meaningful minutes before deciding on his fate.

I don't know that Cal would do that, but yes, the light is not going to come on for Collins. He has great athleticism and length and nice touch, but he has absolutely no clue on the defensive end and gave up one open three after another to Hauser. Ware just needs to be a practice guy.

But honestly, Thiero could very well be a better option than Toppin - PERIOD. A lineup of Wallace, Fredrick, Reeves, Thiero, and Oscar would be very interesting. Four capable shooters who can also, at times, take their man off the dribble. Never ever going to happen with Cal though.

Imagine this board if he played very-green Ugonna, and we still lost, with Oscar on the bench.

I mean, he played the right guys, more or less. I think the lineups need work, of course. The key is probably inserting Ugonna into the lineup more, but I think more as a break for Oscar due to 1. his knee and 2. the refs trying to give him fouls.

He played the right guys? Hard not to ignore you. I don't know you. Don't interact or argue with you. I just don't want to read anything from someone who says "he played the right guys, more or less." I mean WTF. He started LANCE WARE. Again. Izzo and his players were giddy! That's the guy their guys abused and laughed at on the AAU circuit. GTFO with that statement.

Izzo and his players were "giddy" because Lance ware was in?

Lance shouldn't be playing 15 minutes unless he plays for Morehead State.Any idiot can see that.

Absolutely they were, genius. They all know he's a low tier D1 player. A dude who is kind of tall, but has little basketball skill. In the 2nd OT, when the game still hung in the balance, Izzo sat his stud big man and gave him a rest because Ware was not a threat. If you think Lance Ware should play a single minute against MSU, Gonzaga, Michigan, UCLA, Kansas - you really ought to stop posting.

He played 15 minutes, and I'm pretty sure 3 or 4 were in OT.

Oscar had foul trouble, Collins is not reliable right now. Lance HAD to play minutes at some point.

Izzo did not rest his big man because he saw Ware, and the team wasn't GIDDY because he was in. Just stop making **** up.

Holy cow. I'm not speaking of some kind of literal giddiness that was observed and caught on camera. I'm saying these guys talk. And these guys know each other. And I promise you the bigs on that team, who all played AAU, looked up to see Lance Ware starting for the University of Kentucky Wildcats and said, "WTF?!. I dunked all over that dude in high school. That's really who UK is putting on the floor to start this game?"

It's pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Starting a guy that wouldn't log a damn minute for every other team in the Champions Classic. And you're good with him playing 15. Mind boggling.

I heard a rumor we had a shot blocking freshman who has looked good so far but no need to give him a try I guess.

Yeah, I mean why have a guy who could've prevented the first two buckets MSU got when you can have Lance Ware let them score at will?

Got it, so the MSU players all got together, read the Ware scouting report, and then got excited when he HAD to go in at times because of foul trouble, etc?

Lol.

We had no other option. Do I have to explain what 2nd units are, and players fouling out equates to?

They got excited when the lights were still off and the starting lineups were announced! Ugonna was the option. He played 20 minutes in each of the first two games and outperformed Ware in every way. You start the game with him. If he's a deer in headlights, you pull him. But if you think the outcome would've been worse with Ugonna playing 15 minutes and Ware playing 0, there's no use discussing anything with you.

You guys let your Cal hatred ruin any common sense.

As much as I love Ugonnas potential, it's a terrible idea to put him in late. Believe it or not, playing Ware instead wasn't some crazy move late in the game. Cal went with the experience factor.. but it's not like it mattered much anyways... our Oscar fill-in didn't miss clutch free throws or get lost on the wing.

Lmfao.. you might be the biggest clown on this board..

To think that MSU players gave much of a **** about Ware being in the starting lineup when Oscar was coming in.

Prove this. Show me where MSU got excited that Ware was starting. Not that it matters, he was more or less a fill in anyways as Oscar came in 5 min later.

That's rich. You're good with Lance Ware playing 15 minutes and Ugonna playing 1, but I'm the clown. News flash Bozo, you're in the minority with that opinion. Lance Ware is one of the least talented players to play for UK in decades. BCG had better options on the bench. But keep these takes coming. They're amusing in how utterly astonishing they are.

Play Oscar at the 4 and ugonna at the 5. Thiero at the 4? No
I think you significantly weaken both positions if you do that. Ugonna is going to develop into a nice Center, but he’s not in Tshiebwe’s league at this point – not even close. Tshiebwe is an advantage at the 5, but at the PF spot you lose of lot of that offensive and defensive advantage he gives you at the 5.

I’m still confident that Toppin & Livingston are our best options at the 4. They just need to get better – and they will.

I know it’s a little out there (For
Cal) ..…but Collins/Ware just can’t cut it right now They should only get mop up minutes at the 5.
Thiero as a backup anything works for me. If it doesn't work then bench him but not at least trying him out is so typical.

If we had an effective college offense that set effective screens Reeves, CJ and company would be killing it from 3. Look how many times that big goofy white kid for Mich State was wide open to drain a shot.

Thiero has basketball IQ that would pair well to develop with Wallace……should be getting more playing time period

I would play Livingston at the 4. He rebounds and is strong enough to defend the 4 spot.
This is the play, and if Livingston is already too far in his own head then playing Thiero there isn’t a bad idea. Guy is scrappy and fearless and also hits the boards.

Another idea is playing Collins at the 4 for stretches but playing a ZONE!

No more going under screens and chasing guards around the perimeter in an effort to impress pro scouts.

Let him protect Oscar’s backside. Stick those two out there with Wallace/CJ/Reeves. Try to outscore everybody and block everything within 6 feet of the rim.

I see a few different ways to use the pieces we have this year, but I think Cal may have a different vision.

What did Ware’s experience provide? He left his man TWICE to double team a guard that led to an alley oop and a dunk. This all in overtime.

He didn’t even know who to guard!!!!

Do you guys watch the games?
