They have been pushing this "whatever lower ranked recruit we got is better than their 5 star" stuff since they convinced themselves Siva was on John Wall's level.
As far as player development, if anything Cal will pursue P.D. over wins early in the season when he's pushing guys out of their comfort zones to prepare them for the next level. He encouraged Davis and Towns to struggle through learning to play with their backs to the basket, he stayed on Herro about getting his shot off faster, etc.
You can criticize Cal for lack of tournament success relative to talent, I have too, but I don't know how you can say it's a myth he develops NBA players when he has 15 years of success stories vs a handful of flops and at the same time we watch year after year as "can't miss" prospect chose other programs and flame out.
