Just wow. Every call that goes against UNL and even a bunch of plays where they thought UNL should’ve gotten a call, they’re complaining. Incredibly obvious.

The horse collar was called not because of how the tackle was initiated but how he finished it.

And now they’re whining about a non holding call again and making a point to show the play again 2 plays later.

While they made some errors, I actually think Tillman is going a great job with color.

Yes, this. It’s like they’re letting the crowd think for them. They act like the “hold” there was egregious when in fact Wiederkehr let go very quickly. On the previous drive a Nebraska OL held Bergin turning him completely around. But I guess the crowd didn’t boo on that one... so they didn’t even mention it.

Dude - letting go quickly doesn’t make it less of a hold.

listen to his comments on the interior line play - good insight on the snap issues with the center.

There’s holding of that degree on at least 1/3 of plays on both sides. Announcers don’t whine about it and show the replay TWO plays later.

bit of an arbitrary number and don’t doubt there is holding on both sides, but usually grabbing a jersey and spinning a player, in front of the ball carrier (especially a qb) will get called 99 times out of 100

The announcers were terrible. At one point they were talking about how good Maurice Washington is while showing his stats at 5 rushes for 1 yard.

I got tired of Brando referring to punts as "boots." I think at one point he said some variation of "boot" three times in one sentence. You could even hear him pause briefly on the third instance, as if even he realized he said the word one time too many.

Tillman is a long-time Houstonian who said that Fisher and Willock played together at powerhouse "Katy Taylor High School". That's a head-scratcher. It's simply Katy High School. Katy Taylor is another school with a much less successful football program.

It's petty, but he should know better.

Today for the first time I sync’d up the WGN audio with the TV. It was so much better than having to listen to Brando. It made a tough loss at least listenable.

Thanks again, California Cat.

It was arguably a holding penalty. There were also about a half dozen more egregious holds throughout the game - including one much, much more egregious where they held Bergin the drive immediately preceding - also right in front of the runner, also spinner him around. But the refs weren’t really calling holding. Point is... the announcers didn’t focus on any of those, only on the one where Nebraska fans boo’d.

Hell.. announcers didn’t even focus as much on the most consequential missed call of the game - the missed PI that turned into an interception. 1 minute left, completely changed the game. They mentioned it but didn’t focus on the actual infraction. Didn’t show an additional angle replay. And they certainly were not incredulous like they were on that one missed holding call.

I thought the announcing was atrocious, and this was just one example.

Agree. Not a fan of Brando, but Tillman was solid.

IMO, Brando's best work on college football was as the primary studio host while at CBS.

He's a pretty decent PxP guy for basketball though, especially when he was paired with Bill Raftery.

Tillman is one of FOX's better color commentary guys (including their NFL package). Not a particularly high bar, but still...

Glad you were able to do it. Makes a huge difference - win or lose.

Just looking at all the complaints in this thread about the terrible TV announcers it seems to me that all Cats fans would want to do this as well.

I've disliked Brando ever since the 2000 season when he'd poop on NU with sarcastic jabs every chance he could.

isn't Tillman a UNL guy? Thought he was siding with the Huskers the entire game and in fact had to inject a few words late in the game, stating oh, we're not hoping that one team wins , we are just neutral. Never heard a TV guy say something like that and it showed who he was favoring.
