Yep. People forget about Pinson some, I think, because of his injuries. We haven't really saw all that he can do. Now, he's not a shooter, but he's shown the ability to be a slasher, good defender and creator.

Everyone is right....he doesn't match up well defensively with Bagley or Carter, but those guys don't exactly match up with him well, either. Over the long haul the advantage is in our favor, but I think Theo will play a lot of stretch four this season and be pretty effective. The Heels almost need him to out of necessity.

Sure no question but I just cannot see that as a valid argument at the "4" spot, especially vs Duke in a head to head matchup. That was the point of my post.Energy and D are his strengths, as JW, but Justise was more well rounded at the offensive end.

If Pinson was a tremendous shooter, then yes I could see him being a problem. However, that's not the case and we all know Bagley, Carter, Javin, and Bolden will be a load for Pinson. Pinson doesn't have the size or the skills in the post to bang with these guys. Duke is a terrible match up for UNC this season. Also, will Roy really play small ball?

Think he does not have the offensive skill set that Justice had but will definitely be a good player for them

I wasn't talking about his matchup with Duke, just him as a vital cog for unc which I believe is being downplayed. I think we matched up extremely well with them last year bc they had no answer for Tatum, and I think they matchup even worse this year. However in the other 30+ games they play, he will be a matchup problem for others bc of what he brings. I don't see him playing the four a ton for UNC either, so I didn't really touch that, but as far as his role, I think he is underrated.

Justise was MORE adept at scoring the ball. He was PHYSICALLY STRONGER as well, and IMO a better inside player. (And thats w/o the Duke shades).OFC

At the 4 however, (which is what Rothstein referenced in OP) in any of those "30+ other games," I think he would have a difficult time matching up. OFC

Timo no, I respectfully must disagree about them filling the same role for their respective teams. Winslow shocked and surprised us and many opponents with his driving the length of the court for an inspirational slam dunk or lay-up when least expected or a key defensive play, he made several blocks for us when needed. Pinson is a pretty decent defender but I only saw him have one to two Winslow moments for the cheaters last year. Pinson will certainly be counted on this season more but to say he's as important to the heels as Winslow is a huge stretch.

Please show me where I said he was as important to the heels as Justise was for Duke. I'll wait.

As usual, people completely blowing it out of proportion what I said. Please read what I said- he fills the same type of role- undersized for the position he's being asked to play, a defensive force, and a tough minded and emotional cog to their success.

But no please continue to harp on him not being as good, which I initially said. Read what I said and take off the shades. It's pretty simple.

I also don't think he "surprised" us or the opponents. This was who Justise was and who we recruited him to be. Kid was elite. He did surprise me in terms of his shooting though I'll give you that. If you watched him play for team USA with Ty and Jah you'd hardly be surprised and I can't imagine that anyone after the MSU or Wisconsin games early in the year were surprised.

For the Holes isn't the power point that light that illuminates on the board where Ol Roy stands there and makes those shapes of characters with his hands and his players guess what they are?

Better than power forward, lol....Pinson IMO as I said earlier doesnt check as many boxes as Justise and I could hardly qualify him as filling the same role for UNC. Justise averaged what 12-13 pts a game for Duke?? Pinson's career average is at 4pts ppg.

The 3 point shooting disparity is another important point to note. Thats one reason Roy doggedly pursued the Cam Johnson transfer so much- he knew he couldnt count on TP for the trey ball. OFC

If I read correctly and I'm pretty sure that I do, I think this is what you wrote and if there's a Duke fan that doesn't get googly goo over their team and strives to be mostly objective it's surely me.

No I was disagreeing that I ever said that he was as important as Justise was to us, which I never said. The rest of my comments were not towards you but to those who consistently took my comments out of context with my original post. I'm completely fine with disagreeing positions, as I think you know me well enough by now on this board. I'm not ok with making things up, a huge pet peeve of mine. One that I see on THR all of the time (not saying you did at all just misrepresented what I said). That's my whole point.

My thread is fairly one sided Sky....Theo may play some 4, but most dont see him as very effective at it. Certainly not able to "fill the same role at it" as a Justise Winslow, even though he may be asked to. What do you think buddy?? OFC

Its not "star-struck." The OP article in question referenced transfers and their potential impact next year. One of the byproducts thereof was Cam Johnson's role at UNC affording Roy the luxury of playing Pinson at the 4. Raised some eyebrows because thats not typical ROYBALL and Pinson is seen certainly as a good perimeter player especially at the defensive end, but simply not a TRUE 4 as most have stated.Sorry you dont "get it." No sweat man.. Its the "rivalry" thing. Put it this way, a story about such a move by BC probably doesnt even move the needle. I was tossing out a question pertinent to our chief rival, about a comment by a college basketball writer.(I must say though I do like your designation of "Roy's Energizer Bunny.")
