Dude really didn't like Cal but ended up with him anyway. I guess money will make you suffer through a lot.

Can't remember exactly what was said or what forum it was on but there was a video leaked of them laughing about how no one would play here without Cal. And this was during a time they were supposedly undecided if they were staying or going.

Really? He couldn't lead his teams out of the second round with lottery picks flanking him. And I really don't care about their NBA results. Happiest time as a UK fan was during the 90's and none of those players were max contract NBA talent.
My favotite time as a uk fan was that 8 year stretch in the 2010s with some fun teams in cals last years

Of course you're never going to win every year but having a top 10 roster every year loaded with stars should give you more titles than you have NIT bids, or 16 loss seasons, or 1st round losses, or second round losses.
Is it too much to ask to have more titles than Baylor during that time. Or UCONN that actually fired their incompetent coach that had as many titles? or go to more title games than Butler?
I would say 91-98 but no doubt the most exciting period of UK basketball in your life and it isnt even close.

Or you could learn the game and know that the list of National Title winners are usually the most talented with a great coach. We had the talent but unfortunately, we had one of the few coaches that could piss that much talent away.

If his great years would be a stretch to call it entertaining. Lets say 100+pts in a game is peak entertainment. 90 is really good. 80 is okay. 70...yawn. 60 dud

We actually scored in the 50's 4 times. Repeat, we scored in the 50's more times than we scored 90 or more with the most loaded roster in college basketball.
But we were winning and with Cal you have to sacrifice a lot with the hope that next year will be the year he has so much talent he can't screw it upl

You really should go back and watch some Pitino era UK games. They are available for free online we were very good and played a very exciting brand of basketball. Do us a favor and revisit this after you have done so. The first half of the '96 LSU game is about as good as it can get.

So a quick question to all the ones saying the 90s. While I can agree..what was different about UK back then? I know the differences in the game today and then but I'm strictly asking about UK.

You have no idea what it was like pre Cal then. It was just as good maybe even better at some points.
Pitino had some kinda of magic wand back then. I do believe he's one of the best coaches ive seen and has won everywhere he has been but it was a different level back then.
He could take 4 farm boys and a junior college transfer and take one of the best teams in the history of the sport down to the last second of overtime to go to the Final Four. He could go up against the Fab Five with Travis Ford guarding Jalen Rose, Prickett guarding Jawuan Howard, Gimel Martinez guarding Chris Webber and we actually had a chance to win if the ref knew what a charge was.
I guess in short(kinda) he got every ounce of talent and effort from his players. You never watched UK back then and felt like you were being cheated as a fan.
Just go back and watch the tourny run in 93 staring in the Sec tournament. If anyone could watch that stretch and not come away knowing that was the best time to be a UK fan then its best not talking to that person again.
UK had a HOF coach that was at his professional pinnacle. Was Pitino really that good? Yes he was. He’s one of the top ten best college coaches of all time, imho. He had a consistently good staff and his early staff is probably the best ever assembled at UK. That is not hyperbole.
Pitino had the very best strength and conditioning program in college basketball. With some notable exceptions (Rod Rhodes), he consistently got extremely talented players to play with as much effort as possible.
Pitino at UK was lightning in a bottle. There’s a lot more context to understand like how the 80s sucked bad for UK and it was common for even McDonald’s All Americans to not play big minutes as freshmen. But long story short we had a genius head coach doing his finest work.
