Heard today that effective end of August, all the yellow jacket ushers etc are being let go.

Rutgers is replacing them with a private usher company for all sporting events.

I see this could be crazy for game one having hundreds of new ushers barely trained and having to deal with 50,000 fans.

At least the crew they had were somewhat experienced for football and basketball.

Should be interesting.

The only "training" yellow jackets received was a 15 minute talk prior to the game. Basically check tickets and go find a cop if someone's acting up.

That said I hope they don't get too overbearing about alums sneaking into the student section...still my favorite place on earth.

Same here, I actually saw my guy at the stadium today.

Every game I see him walking up the aisle with dozens of confiscated beers. He's like a bloodhound.

I never realized the yellow jacket security was a paid position and their contract was out for the bid. I always thought they were volunteers.

I work at MetLife Stadium doing guest services.

Coming from that background I can tell you that the yellow jackets sucked compared to the Metlife.

The ushers should be their for more than checking tickets. It is all about the gameday experience if you ask someone at metlife stadium where to find something 9 times out of 10 they know exactly where it is. We are also trained amd certifies in TEAM Alcohol awareness something that can come in handy in identifying people who are in need of medical assistance for alcohol related problems.

It is a shame - over the years we've gotten to know a couple of the yellow jackets who have worked our section - it really helps to have that familiarity at times.

Haven't been to the new Giants Stadium, but I can tell you from our experience back in the 80's and 90's those who worked Giants Stadium at the time were more often a problem than helpful.

I worked in both places and cam tell you the management and the training are completely different

Rutgers handled the hiring and was in charge of the yellow jackets.

Now they are farming it out to a private company just like they did with the parking attendants.

If they get Securitas I'm giving up my season tickets (joking..kinda) .. Seriously you think that the cops on ATVs in the blue lot are bad... If you ever dealt with Securitas (Yankee Stadium, Universal studios) you know what I mean.

Overall this is a good move. Performance wise MOST of these guys were awful. Nice but not good at their job.

They gave me a hard time about bringing a kindle into a baseball game. Wasn't planning on reading it during the game, but still. What the heck?

I was a yellow jacket for basketball, lacrosse and football as a student in early 90s. Pay was low, by the hour, minimal training. Was a lot of fun though. One year ushered the section Jamal Phillips family was in. Never had a major issue other than kids sneaking kids into the lower sections at the RAC :).

I never got the name of the yellowjacket that checked my ticket every game every year, but we recognized each other, and always wished each other a good game. That small glimmer of familiarity, especially during the crazy packed night games, was reassuring. Section 116. Best wishes, my man.

There is no conspiracy theory about bees disappearing. They are being killed off by pesticides, and its a big problem. Honeybees are basically commoditized at this point, but pretty much all other pollinator bees are struggling big time.

I almost never see a honeybee of any kind anywhere in my yard. What you usually see are the worthless versions, yellowjackets, wasps, carpenter bees, etc. The good ones are small fuzzy ones.

This. I also hope that they don't become crazy about needing the appropriate ticket to get into a section. We have always had an extra person or two sit in our section at some point during a game. It can easily be done without infringing on anyone else's seats. It's one of the cool things about RU games that an old buddy who sits in another section can come sit with you for a quarter without having to play the ticket exchange game

I don't like it.

Cannot quite explain why.. maybe just a suspicion that such decisions are not about a better game day experience but more about bean-counting or, worse, paying off some politician how has ties to said "private company" that will supply the ushers, parking attendants, etc.

Does this include the gate attendants? Some of them are so nice and accommodating--letting kids over 2 in without at ticket. Once we tore the tops of our tickets off by accident and they let us in without an issue.

Uh yeah. I know it's not a conspiracy theory. It was a joke. The tinfoil hat thing was making fun of myself more than anything else.

That's the case here, hate to see my guy go, I don't have to show
my tickets, he knows me and my family, and everyone around us.Two guys
for 20 twenty years.
