These people showed zero respect to the Iowa Football program(their fans, not their coaches) before the game, so I had to see how they took in the game today. All 4 pages of it.

There was another thread where someone mentioned this site and how we are delusional, I can only assume because we thought we had a chance to win!

Crazy to see the salt that a fan base like Vanderbilt sprinkles. They were my in my top 3 when I was choosing a college, and they're acting like new money. I equate them to Northwestern, Duke and Stanford when it comes to actual higher learning and they're the most insufferable of the bunch.

Got no beef with Vandy and their fans.

It really shows that their success is so new for them. A 4 page game thread? Ours was 48 pages in comparison, shows how rabid our fan base is. The traffic on their site is minute.

With such success being so new, they likely don’t have as knowledgeable of a fan base as we do. I doubt any of their fans bothered to see how the Hawks got to a 8-4 season record coming into the game.

Their reasoning probably went no further than they were 10-2, ranked higher, and play in the SEC= we have no chance.

I wouldn’t mind seeing them have continued success, they have gone a long time without it. Good school. And would like to see someone shake up the usual SEC dynamics.

And I hope the rankings to start next year are representative of how the Big did vs the SEC this Bowl season.

When we are getting our asses dominated in the trenches for instance, there are more than a fair share of our fans that would be pointing that out. These guys just didn’t seem to understand they were getting beat in the 1st half. It was all about them not playing well, etc.

Sounds like I found a fairly dead board on On3 and there is apparently another board that has more traffic.

That is undoubtedly true.

Two differences in the fanbases, I see.

Not sure the majority of our fanbase goes into many games against a ranked foe thinking it’s almost an impossibility that we could lose. You get a wide range of opinions around here. We’ll win, we’ll lose. We’re great, we suck.

I think with success being so new for them, it is easy to get carried away by it somewhat. Like the rest of the country, they also are force fed that the SEC is by far the most dominant conference from ESecPN.

So they are/were a wee bit overconfident. When HF turned Iowa around in 1981(8-4 record), I thought that was going to be the new floor for Iowa. I was a kid then, but we had improved every year under HF to that date, and I figured we would just maintain or improve on that going forward.

I think that is where they are as a fan base now for the most part. A 10-2 season has excited the fan base for good reason. But, maybe they don’t have the experience of handling that success that we have had for most of my lifetime. That 10-2 will not become their new floor. There will be up years and down years. And most importantly, anybody can beat you on any given day.

Secondly, I find it interesting that with their success this year, it hasn’t seemed to translate into fans coming out of the woodwork for them. At least as far as message board participation seems to be.

Of the two Vandy message boards I was able to find, the longest game thread was 150 posts. In comparison our game thread was about 2000 posts the last time I checked.

Does it really matter? No
Does it mean that they are an inferior fan base? No

I just thought they would be taking in new fans and it showing on their boards at a larger rate. But, this is really their breakout year, so maybe it doesn’t happen that quick.

Not necessarily a huge point to be made. Just wanted to provide a quick summary of how the opponent was reacting/thinking during the game.

Haven’t watched this yet, but I saw nothing from him before the game that would suggest he is anything but a class guy.

And from the sound of your summary, nothing in the post game is likely to change that.
