How does Rutgers handle this matchup? If Williams is at the 4, this would be Harper or Yeboah typically but Williams is 6'9 270ish. That is quite the size advantage. Do we stick to our rotations and make him guard smaller players on the perimeter? Does Pike adjust and show some Carter Myles lineups?

Williams and Harms are rarely on the court together. I think Williams will often be guarded by Myles although perhaps Harper or Yeboah might guard him as well.

Answering your question......

I don't have a clue what he will/would do.

I am thinking it would be a forward PLUS Myles and the forward would get Haarms.

Beating a shorter defender fronting Haarms is not easy if guards are on top of Purdue perimeters.

A bigger question (although I like your question) what happens if Myles gets in foul trouble AND Shaq has problems.....ZONE? Don't like the sounds of that.

If 1212 is right and they are not normally on the court together then it becomes easier to manage. I am no Purdue expert but I thought they did play as a tandem and was also wondering how we defend that. I would think they both average at least 25 min per game. I think I put Myles on Williams since he strikes me as more of pure post player.

Based on their last game, this is who starts for them and who I'd match up.
Boudreaux - Myles
Williams - Ron
Eastern - Yeboah
Stefanovic - Mathis
Hunter - Geo (I think he's ready to start)

I wouldn’t be surprised to see both of their bigs on the floor at the same time and Purdue in a zone defense against us.

I thought about that as well with a shorter guy on Haarms. If they really aren't on the court together it's not really an issue but I assumed they would be.

They usually aren’t, but have seen it a few times......and as we know it is a 2 part game. Assuming Purdue is playing man who is guarding Harper/Yeboah?

Nope. From the Purdue sports website, Williams averages 20.9 minutes and Haarms 22.6. Haarms has been dinged recently so in his last five, he's played 11, 11, 21, 28, and 14 minutes. Williams played 44 (!!) in his coming out party vs. Michigan when Haarms was first injured, then played 26, 22, 25, and 16. I'm sure the low minutes for both vs. Wisconsin was because it was a rout for Purdue.

If Haarms is fully healthy (or near it), he probably will go for around 25 minutes tomorrow.

Purdue is 1-5 on the road thus far and the win was at Ohio. The Bobcats, not the Buckeyes. They did push Michigan to double OT in Ann Arbor but were crushed at Illinois and lost at Nebraska and Maryland, too. They followed their big win vs Michigan State by losing at Maryland 57-50 in a game the Terps led at the half 36-20.

Flip side of Trevion Williams matchup: unless Purdue plays zone (I don't know if they do), he will have to come out and guard Harper or Yeboah on the perimeter. I like our guys' quickness taking it to him on the dribble, unless they try to put Haarms on those guys and Williams on Myles in the post where he's giving up 2" and a lot of wingspan. We create matchup problems, too.

Purdue beat up Wisconsin on the glass, 42-16. That's why it was a rout. Anyone think that is remotely possible against our guys at the RAC? We should win this game at home.
