New Mexico State and Liberty play twice this year. Both are FBS teams, but independents, so they have had trouble scheduling and finally just decided before the season to play a home and home, in Las Cruces on Oct. 6 and on Nov. 24 in Virginia.

They should cancel the Oct. 6 game in Las Cruces and replace it with a home game against Akron on Sept. 29, a date both schools currently have open.

That would free Liberty and head coach Turner Gill to bring his Fightin' Falwells to Lincoln on Oct. 27, a date both schools currently have open.

Nobody loses a home game. Akron has a chance at a W instead of a loss. Liberty gets a ****-ton of money.

And two legendary Husker QBs get to face off in Frost's first season.

Send this to Moos, and my work is done.

How do you know that SF and his staff want to even play a game on their bye week

We need to keep that bye week. Gotta have a break mid season. Especially before OSU.
Great point. If the bye week stands and we play on Dec. 1 (title game or makeup game), it's a perfect 7 games, BYE WEEK, 5 games split for the season. Just throwing out a possible solution that would allow us to beat the Bejeezus out of Liberty, and at the same time eliminate the possibility of losing a bowl game if we're at 5-6 and Akron makes the MAC title game or doesn't want to come back in December.

Well, at least you didn't call it the final solution.

*wince*

The tribute song from sabaton (swedish metal band singing about military history) is one of the creepiest things I've ever heard live.

Ever seen a rowdy (and I mean ROWDY) metal crowd go DEAD silent before?

I have. Once. Extremely powerful moment.

9and4, there is more merit to your post and idea, so I applause now because there is a slight possibility it could happen..

I would have thought SF would wanted a bye to mend some injuries and a brake after 7 straight games and facing tOSU next and ending the season with 4 games..

Thanks, man. I do have some friends in the sports reporting community still. 24/7 Sports (where I know nobody) included the idea in a story tonight. They gave me no credit. Bastards.

So what has to happen since Liberty has 12 games scheduled who do they make a deal with to play Nebraska, New Mexico St or Akron ?
It probably starts with a conference call of four athletic directors with the general agreement that they try to make the proposition work. It then would probably require the school with all the money to agree to fund the majority of the maneuvers — Akron's travel to NMSU, a guarantee from NMSU to Akron, NU's guarantee to Liberty. Then subordinates work on the details and present the ADs with a tentative agreement. If all agree, it's on.

I just don’t one game to cost us over a bye week at the end of the year against Illinois, Sparty and Iowa.

That is a real concern. If I'm Moos, I don't do that conference call until at least after this week's slate of games to see who else needs a makeup date. If there are some weather cancellations involving teams in the South, then I'd contact them about a conversation later in October that would set up a December game if both teams are out of title games and/or the FCS playoffs. If there are no rainouts, then I'd start the conversation among Liberty, Akron and NMSU. Make no mistake, NU needs a home game to make good on the ticket sales from the Akron game.
