The Jersey shore first aired in 2009.its last episode was 2012. The yr is 2025 nobody cares about that show. Even the younger generation don’t care.Nj isn’t all about one ethnicity group it caters to way more. Bring out people like Bruce, bring out people like queen Latifah, bring out coi leray not some guy who’s heyday was 20 yrs ago and average person who wouldn’t know who he is if he walked past

It's still popular, and as per the the reaction, most people recognized him. I believe Queen Latifah has been on the big board before, Springsteen it seems has not been involved. Idk who "coi leray" is.

Not sure how the show caters to one "ethnic group" either, not everyone on the cast is Italian.

Hate to break it to people but Sammi Sweetheart is also associated with RU. Her family members have posted here before.

Here's an idea. If you want your own cultural figures associated with RU, call them up and get them here.

Here is a newsflash for you. Most of the cast of the Jersey Shore grew up within what, 30 miles, of campus. They are going to have friends and family affiliated with the school. I love Bruce and JBJ but they aren't interested and I am unaware of their ties to the school.

By all means, call up the elderly acts or the gen Z tik tokers who are interested. I eagerly await their arrival and will give them a chance versus the whining about people anyone in NJ with a pulse recognizes.

We were desperate for lunch and stopped at the Bon Jovi rest stop last week. If Bruce declined that one being named after him, it was a smart move. The place sucked. Bon Jovi should have his name taken off of it.
Fantastic example of the NJ attitude right here hahaha

Sammi can be associated with this institution anytime she wants.

Your ignorance never stops you from posting. Sad.
Sorry I'm not as up as you and some others are on the Situation. Had no idea he was convicted of tax evasion/fraud. If I had known that I would have agreed with others that having him at the game was a dumb move.

Didn't stop a former President and the Dali Lama from speaking here, and didn't stop her at BC.

And it was disrupted. I'd guess a majority of the graduates would have preferred a calm and quiet commencement.

It wasn't disrupted, unless you consider random shouting disruption. Somehow, President Obama managed to ignore it at Notre Dame.

Sammi's dad was at the game Friday. He's a long-time friend and football season ticket holder going back to 1994.

What was the deal with Chris Gotterup and hitting a golf ball. Did the crowd know who he is?
The PA announcer clearly stated that everyone would get a free TV is Chris knocked the ball through the uprights.

Where to we collect?

Never came to our section or the 2 adjacent sections to give “each section” a tv.
I always thought it was an empty box and they would arrange for delivery. Watched a guy carrying a tv through Johnson Park leaving the game hahahah

That's disruption. So was a plane flying low over the site with a banner. It's NOT whether the speaker will ignore it. It's whether the grads and families want the disruption.

BTW. Want to see a great commencement address, Google Conan O'Brien's 2011 speech at Dartmouth

its just me but dont you think that if we went back to paper tickets things would actually go much quicker...i am pretty sure it would

Just about every ticketed event I have attended (multiple ciies and venues) the past few years uses the same system that RU uses. Not sure what the difficulty in holding your phone up to the reader with the screen facing out is.

Was kind of weird when we had club tickets. The guys out front would want to grab your phone in their own hands and scan it.

I have paper tickets also because of seatmates that don't have smart phones. I have stepped around those in line fumbling with their phones many times without issue to breeze into the gate from the Scarlet Lot. On Friday I was in the Beer Garden at an Alumni tailgate and went in about 10 minutes after 7 pm and there was a huge line at the main entrance gate D so I walked over to the right to gate C and breezed right in there. If you look to walk to gate C or gates A or B around the west side of the stadium you probably will find it much easier to get through the entrance unfettered even if waiting last minute.
Shelby forgot he doesn’t have tickets to Rutgers and thought we were talking about Cuse..,

Sorry to inform some of our old timers but:

1) Jersey Shore is still on TV, and is popular

2) The show is especially popular among millennials who are in our biggest spending years and have the fondest memories of the show

3) While certainly "not everyone"- in the era of the show, MANY people dressed/acted like that in Seaside especially but also Point and Belmar and other places and most of them were from NJ (the rest from SI and BK).

No on in NJ cares about the stereotypes promoted by Jersey Shore or Sopranos. I'm 100% Italian American and I found and find them accurate.

And also, the people who identify with those stereotypes are more prevalent in our fan base than the country club types a weird portion of our fanbase thinks are interested. RU has always been a school for first generation college kids and the children of the blue collar and immigrants. Regardless of where they came from.
It is so funny- you are 100% correct. I don’t care if it was the 70’s/80’s/2010’s/now
Jersey shore represents so many of the kids on the shore.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't a couple of the Jersey Shore cast come from the Albany NY area?

The situation is splitting hairs. He grew up in Manalapan and graduated from high school there. You’ve gotta claim him as your Monmouth county brethren

A Google search says Snooki is from Marlboro NY (not NJ). She is known as the "Poughkeepsie Princess". Never watched the show so what would I know.

You sir, are correct! Funny for work-related searches on technical/engineering/science subject matter, have found Duck Duck Go to generally provide better and less biased (Alphabet-centric?) search results, and that is my go to search, but sometimes I do compare. But the Duck whiffed here. From Snooki's Wikipedia (another questionable source) page--are we going with where born, or where they were primarily raised?

These are the important issues we SHOULD debate more on the Rutgers football board! :

Polizzi was born in Santiago, Chile.[6] She was adopted when she was six months old and was raised by Italian-American parents,[7] Andy and Helen Polizzi.[8][9] Polizzi has taken two DNA tests to determine her genetic background. In 2014, the first DNA test stated that she had European, Asian and Jewish ancestry. Five years later, in January 2019, she took another DNA test which stated that she is of Native Chilean and European descent.[10] Polizzi’s father is a volunteer firefighter and auto-salvage supervisor, and her mother is an office manager.[11] Polizzi grew up in Marlboro, New York, although she has identified herself publicly as coming from the better known nearby city of Poughkeepsie and even has called herself the "Princess of Poughkeepsie.

I don’t think that’s what @motorb54 was talking about…

Football is entertainment, so I have no issue with bringing in an entertainer to throw some t-shirts to fans, especially when Jersey Shore popularized the whole t-shirt time thing. Snooki being a commencement speaker was an abomination, on the other hand.

Pauly D knocked up a fan in Vegas. Baby mama lives in Jersey. Attended Stockton. Maybe that counts for something.

Pauly's hometown ranks #1 on Italian ancestry of any location in the United States.
I was surprised how many south Jersey towns were near the top. Also Netcong shocked me....as well as Saddle Brook over Lodi. My daughter went to college in CT so not surprised about RI and East Haven/North Haven.
