They are not Kid Rock or Ted Nugent level, but not too bad.
bac can't separate his own value judgment from the value an artist would bring to Rutgers
He also does not seem to appreciate that the Situation was arrested and jailed in real life, and the Sopranos were TV characters played by actors.

If $$$pringsteen cared about Rutgers it wouldn't take him until he was Eightysomething
Are you OK this morning?
Maybe nobody asked or tried, or Rutgers did it wrong.
Just like the Home Depot founder.
Just like Metallica.
Do you really expect a major artist to reach out to the State University and say, "hey, I'd like to help you guys out."?

Quite frankly we would have an easier time getting Steve Perry or Fake Journey to perform Don't Stop Believin live than we would getting Jersey's own Bruce or Bon Jovi to give a damn about dear old Rutgers

Sorry to inform some of our old timers but:

1) Jersey Shore is still on TV, and is popular

2) The show is especially popular among millennials who are in our biggest spending years and have the fondest memories of the show

3) While certainly "not everyone"- in the era of the show, MANY people dressed/acted like that in Seaside especially but also Point and Belmar and other places and most of them were from NJ (the rest from SI and BK).

No on in NJ cares about the stereotypes promoted by Jersey Shore or Sopranos. I'm 100% Italian American and I found and find them accurate.

And also, the people who identify with those stereotypes are more prevalent in our fan base than the country club types a weird portion of our fanbase thinks are interested. RU has always been a school for first generation college kids and the children of the blue collar and immigrants. Regardless of where they came from.

The former was selected by students and the latter dropped out. Facts matter.
Yes I know all of that.

Snooki was paid out of mandatory student fees. Condoleezza dropped out due to intense pressure from some students and professors.

Maybe Rutgers should make mandatory fees for student entertainment and athletics optional.

Clemson debuted a $150 mandatory student fee to athletics this semester. Doesn’t seem to be helping Dabo whose Clemson football team was embarrassed by TKR favorite Syracuse yesterday. Several Clemson board members voted against the fee including Clemson grad Nikki Haley.

It’s not an ezpass lane so you having paper tickets doesn’t speed up your entrance.
I have paper tickets also because of seatmates that don't have smart phones. I have stepped around those in line fumbling with their phones many times without issue to breeze into the gate from the Scarlet Lot. On Friday I was in the Beer Garden at an Alumni tailgate and went in about 10 minutes after 7 pm and there was a huge line at the main entrance gate D so I walked over to the right to gate C and breezed right in there. If you look to walk to gate C or gates A or B around the west side of the stadium you probably will find it much easier to get through the entrance unfettered even if waiting last minute.

Need to make games an EVENT!!! The experience last night was very cool once people got into their seats. Who cares about the situation…that didn’t make or break the game!
the boardwalk is unique to us and the comments about it are outstanding especially from people who haven’t been a part of Gameday before. We also have an amazing tailgating scene compared to many schools.

we NEED to fix our issues with lines/screening to get into the game. That flow is AWFUL and causes too many issues for people to want to get into the game for any experience. Their knight app was awful last night and not enough people in seats. That is numerous uno right now. We also need to get people in seats before kickoff but a lot of that deals with the lines but more importantly winning.

now based on winning, you don’t get bigger celebrities unless we win.
No. It deals with people (fans) deciding it's more important to be in their seats 30 minutes before kickoff than wait til the last minute to make their way to the gates. If 75% of the fans try to get through the gates 19 minutes before kickoff, there will be a logjam no matter what the administration does. This is not on RU administration.

I agree about the app though. It didn't work for us at all.

Rutgers finds ways to blow it at every turn.

We could have fostered a relationship with Springsteen. His guitar player, Steve Van Zandt, is a football nut.
Bon Jovi is another one. He loves publicity of any kind. Bruce turned down having a rest stop named after him, but Bon Jovi willingly accepted. The fans go wild when Bruce and Bon Jovi songs are played.

Doubt Rutgers ever reached out. Their loss.
We were desperate for lunch and stopped at the Bon Jovi rest stop last week. If Bruce declined that one being named after him, it was a smart move. The place sucked. Bon Jovi should have his name taken off of it.

Consistent with JBJ's music save for a handful of songs-Living on a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive, and that's about it.

Was about to reply with the one in wall is pretty nice. Nieces regularly go because it is the closest and most convenient shake shack.
But I guess Judy Blume is more well regarded than bonjovi

Admire JBJ for all his charitable work. Heck, he bought an ambulance for Sea Bright Fire after Sandy, while Bruce went awol, and one of the guys on the Borough council knew him from the old days. Also, JBJ is a huge fan of Southside Johnny, and did a lot to help him out over the years. But when a JBJ song is played on the radio that is not one of the two above, it's change the station.

Never liked his music growing up. But he’s grown on me mostly because of the stories like you mention. I have heard multiple stories of his local donations to civic organizations, usually with no fanfare. Used to see Jon regularly when I lived in Red Bank. Usually strolling baseball cap on not looking to draw attention to himself. Then you get the other guy openly looking for the fanfare pretending not wanting to get noticed. AWOL is being kind. Wouldn’t give a penny unless 10 fold was guaranteed to come back

Wait a minute- if you are talking about Bruce- that is not true- he quietly gives a lot with no fanfare. Not sure what the deal was after Sandy. Maybe he gave in other areas after Sandy. But it was funny that the band Train from San Francisco played a free benefit show in front of the old firehouse at a fan's request. Nothing from local artists. Bruce is at Manasquan beach quiet a lot, and similar thing, head down, not looking to get noticed. IDK, maybe there are different stories and opinions can vary.

Maybe my sources are incorrect. Multiple separate instances and attempts for Bruce to step up but would only do so with attachments. Mostly 9/11 related stuff. Im sure he gets a lot of requests. Yea would see Bruce regularly in Red Bank and have seen him in Manasquan. Always gracious but definitely looking to be noticed versus hiding from the attention like Bonjovi. Not judging just different experiences.

I did say desperate. Don’t think I’ve ever stopped at a GSP rest stop before. Maybe for gasoline.
I stopped at JBJ rest stop to put air in a tire. It was free. So in that instance, it did not suck, but it blew, in a good way. 😂

The Jersey shore first aired in 2009.its last episode was 2012. The yr is 2025 nobody cares about that show. Even the younger generation don’t care.Nj isn’t all about one ethnicity group it caters to way more. Bring out people like Bruce, bring out people like queen Latifah, bring out coi leray not some guy who’s heyday was 20 yrs ago and average person who wouldn’t know who he is if he walked past

The Situation didn’t just “not pay his taxes”, which is certainly a crime.

He defrauded investors of $60M.

Lame move by Rutgers to hire him to toss out T-shirts. This move reeks of desperation.

Football is entertainment, so I have no issue with bringing in an entertainer to throw some t-shirts to fans, especially when Jersey Shore popularized the whole t-shirt time thing. Snooki being a commencement speaker was an abomination, on the other hand.
Your ignorance never stops you from posting. Sad.
