Howland isn’t any good are the kind of folks who we’re ready to “move on” from Mullen.

They are mouth breathing idiots. Don’t associate yourself with them and #HailState

Where do the people who are ready to move on from Moorhead fit into this?

I’m ready to move on from him... but I also see and understand the argument for him to get another year.

Congrats on being governor.

I don't know if they are the same group

But those vocal about Mullen were crazy and those griping about Howland are crazy. It was awesome to see the fight down the stretch. That is a great sign early in the year.

Howland/MSU bball has slowly improved each year. And he inherited a very bad program that had been in the cellar for a long time. Things never clicked with Malik and he had bad luck with Garrison Brooks. This team has a nice a mix of athleticism and ability. I want to see consistency on the perimeter.

Mullen was our best coach ever. The odds of replacing him with someone better or even as good were always small. Moorhead should be given time to get his guys in. Every recruiting class brings us closer to having what he needs to make his offense work. It would be a mistake to decide because Moorhead isn't as good as Mullen in year two to get rid of him and become a revolving door program. That doesn't work well for most SEC schools, especially when you aren't an elite recruiter in your division. I think the next two seasons line up for us nicely. We get Missouri at home and Vandy on the road for our SEC East crossovers, and we have a home-and-home with NC State for our P5 non-con. Beating Ole Miss and getting to a bowl this year is huge for the program moving forward.

Howland is average. Not bad, not great. He win stay as long as he makes the tournament every couple years.

I think most people who were ready to move on from Mullen wanted to move on because he seemed to be consistently looking for the next job and not always committed to the one he had. I don't think it had much to do with the on field performance of the team.

Howland is a far above average coach. We just don't know if he's a great coach yet. I honestly think this is the first year we've had the personnel to really play.

A great coach can get his team to play with some give a damn before halfway through the second half.

Mostly that, but also, "Holloway up the middle" over and over and over, and not playing the best player over a senior until he was forced to by injury, and mind-boggling, almost Les-Miles-like botching of clock management.

Mullen no doubt elevated our program and raised the floor, but clearly self-imposed a lower-ceiling than we could have and should have had. He built the program to the point, and got the support he needed to raise that ceiling...to make it reasonable for us as a fan-base to expect it. But the aforementioned BS continued year-after-year until it got to a point that fans who were ready to, "move on from Mullen" were not, "mouth-breathing-idiots". Anyone who claims they were ought to look in the mirror.

There is some conflating going on here. Howland has strengths and weaknesses, just like all humans. A strength is that he recruits really well, and imo, a weakness is that he is a poor floor general. His in-game adjustments are minimal and he relies on out-talenting his opponents. That’s not “he isn’t any good, it’s we better play hard if we want to win.
