really blew today. Whether it's the constant traveling calls that are missed or the clear sideline out of bounds missed calls, they really need to do a better job overall. They also let the offensive team be overly aggressive with elbows and constant bumping when backing down a post defender.

Loved the reaction from the crowd when they actually did call the first travel though.

They let Bezhanishvili really smash into Harper on his first few baby hooks. I was waiting for Ron to take the hit and fall and finally get the charge call. Funny to see Giorgi whine after getting away with it earlier.

Came up from Maryland for game. Terrible calls. Especially in first half. Non fouls. Carters block. Was clean Out of bounds dribble down sideline not called but foul on Rutgers. 2nd half foul call on RU as shooting foul but was not. Many more. These guys won’t ref in tournament.

That last one was a shooting foul. The Illinois player was trying to tip the ball in on a rebound (it was a shot attempt he had pretty good control) and either Harper or Yeboah clearly hit his wrist trying to tap the ball out away from the basket. It happened right in front of me. Unlike many others that was the right call.

Refs were awful. Especially the young one Kelly Pfeiffer who always goes out of his way to hurt us

They didn’t call several travels on Illinois and other calls as well

Thanks to this ref crew they kept Illinois in the game during the first half.

I thought the first half favored Illinois which kept them in the game but seemed to favor RU in the 2nd where alot of fouls were not called allowing RU to really play their D

It's bad when I notice it... And I noticed it alot today. It's one thing when they officiate this way when were we the road, it's another when they do it to us at home. Thank God we pulled away, I really thought they'd keep Illinois in it till the end.

Agreed on the foul calls, but they missed the Illini guy stepping out of bounds before the foul (on Yeboah?), plus they did miss a few travels on Illinois in the 2nd half.

Is Kelly the small one underneath the basket? If so he was terrible. He missed a lot of travels and bad calls on both sides.

Our fans whine way too much about officiating.
Yes they do - there were a couple of games where the other team had several more fouls than we did (including even the Purdue game where they had 10 more fouls than we did) and people are whining about the refs. Sometimes they are bad, but not nearly as often as most fans of most schools think.

He was the youngest of the ref crew. Small guy as well. He’s not a good ref and many of his calls go against us in every game he refs.
I looked him up. That's him. I think he is extremely inconsistent and you're right, when he officiates our games we seem to get a lot of WTF calls against us or no calls against the other team. He alone missed at least three blatant traveling calls.

Thanks. Give them credit then where it is due. Many other calls or lack of calls were poor

The travels were a disaster, but even more annoying was the foul calling, which favored Illinois in the first half and us slightly in the second half, for a wash. In every road game I justify the terrible calls by saying that’s how the big ten is with the home whistle, but then we come home and don’t get it !!! Cmon

I'm not asking for pro-Rutgers calls. I'm asking for consistency and not missing obvious stuff. The sideline step out play in the 2nd half was a clear blown call and happened right in front of the ref. They even showed it on the replay board.

You shouldn't randomly switch up the style of play by the half so it benefits each time. Call it down the middle for the whole game the same way so the players know what to expect.

They also could have called Cockburn for 3 seconds on almost every single Illinois possession, he was living in the paint.

Officials are like players. Players miss shots and make mistakes and officials miss calls. I highly doubt they have a bias against Rutgers and really doubt over time officiating his lopsided.

One thing I can say is the officials treat players and coaches with respect. I think 99% of the time it is mutual.

I officiated during my 4 years at Rutgers and to this day it gives me the respect of how hard it is.

I’ll never forget officiating my 1st game and calling a goaltend.........in an under 6 foot league!

What you are not factoring in is the “coach” or “team “ factor with refs. Many coaches and teams get the calls because of who they are.

Refs overall this year have given us much more respect and have been fair because we have improved and our home crowd is intimidating

I can tell you whether it’s coincidence or not that Courtney Greene when he would ref us would call fouls against us with a minimum 5:1 discrepancy

Mr Greene has not reffed a game at the Rac this year and I believe has only done 1 game with us this year. Pike has said they review refs and it would not shock me if a report was issued to the commish office on this matter

Besides Greene, other refs that seems to have it in for us are Pfeiffer and Curry

Experienced good refs like Scirutto, Borowski, now call our games fair because we re good; we’ve earned their respect and they don’t want to be abused at our place

Not easy being a ref but lord there were tons of travel and 3 second violations ignored yesterday.

Pike has paid his dues in the B1G and while he does not get himself T’d up I believe the refs respect what he’s done. He’s earning some leverage with the refs and if he wins B1G COY he will have even more — the kind of leverage that guys like Izzo have.

Officiating was par for the course. You’ll never see some of the things officiated at an RU b-ball or football game anywhere else.

Off topic, but I don’t think there has ever been more of a Lock than Pikiell for COY this year. And well-deserved.

edited to show my work:

a) deserves recognition and award for the phenomenal rebuild from an RPI-killer just a few short years ago.

b) has built a team that's very hard to beat out of a roster that is good but not great. (The sum is way greater than the parts).

I believe Rutgers will not only get into the NCAA, but will also win at least once.

If they actually grade these refs on a game by game basis, they’re going to be getting some ****** assed grades for the job they did yesterday that’s for sure.

You know.. we can do something about that... not that we should.

That is, our defender could intentionally over-react and just blatantly push the guy bumping him... BEGGING to be called. Of course there'd be some facing off after that and the refs would seek to control the game. But that method is dangerous and gets a foul call. possibly intentional.. on our guy. Coach should get a technical (after our next possession).

Pfeiffer is his name. I’m at the point where I say it like Seinfeld says Newman. Someone told me he’s a mid-western guy and has been known to say he didn’t like the traditional Big 10 expansion.
