I can ask you the same about fans. We have people here complaining that Rutgers fans complain about refs.. that it is not "big time". I'd argue that "big time" fans would.. and do.. complain about such things too.

Besides.. what does NOT complaining about missed calls do?

The Ref makes that obvious PI call in the endzone and we end up scoring.. makes things even more interesting, no? Why should a fan NOT recognize that and talk about that?

I am not telling people to not talk about anything. But blaming the game result on officiating is pointless. It changes nothing.

Officials make mistakes all the time. Both ways. It can indeed have an effect on the result. But much more often than not, the mistakes the coaches and players make are far more impactful on the result than officiating mistakes.

And that’s why we lost today. Our coaches and players made far too many mistakes. Had we played with just a few less mistakes, we would’ve won and the officiating would’ve been irrelevant to us. Then it’d be UM fans pointing out mistakes the officials made.

I don’t. Imho, horrible coaching and decisions in first half (to put us in the hole), a missed chippy, whiffing on a number of difference-making opportunities all had a part.

That 4th and 1 trick play was the one that bothers me. Langan had converted a play for 3 yards earlier and they knew it was the play. They just couldn’t stop him. So why not just use Langan there?

I think that play would have worked but your running back/center hesitated about two seconds before snapping the ball. That gave the D line enough time to figure out what was happening. It wasn't so much the call as the execution IMO.

No. You can cherry pick calls or non-calls every game that didn't go our way. We had plenty of opportunities but just came up short.

Yes but it’s not every game that even the opposing team’s post game press blatantly calls out a PI call as blown.

The picked up block in the back was also odd, our player fell face forward with their player behind him, not sure how that is not a block in the back. Someone mentioned OL holding in the first half. I know when we closed to 20-10, their first play after got 7 yards but our DL up the middle had his man beat and the OL hooked him around the waist, I was sure a flag would come but nope.

I'm, shocked they picked up that block in the back on the punt return. it was blatant, and they obviously threw the flag for a reason. What during that ref conversation made them think what they obviously saw in real time, didn't happen?

We were a false start, an overthrown ball that resulted in no PI being called, and a poorly thrown fade route, from winning the game.

The fade may have been poorly thrown but Washington was double covered so I am not sure there was much of chance of success there regardless of the throw. It seems like a predetermined play regardless of the coverage. The throw to Cruickshank was off target which probably gave the official more latitude not to make the call. I doubt he catches it if there was no interference but you can't be sure. The throw that might have hurt the most was missing Melton late. He was open for some good yardage and NV just sailed it over his head. Tough loss but put me in the camp of we need to do better versus blaming the refs for the loss.

I think the fade was a good read at the line but the safety got over fast. I think Mich baited us into throwing that fade. It looked like 1 on 1 coverage but the safety screamed over at the snap of the ball.

Refs are part of the game. If we execute the refs do not matter.

100% agree with everything you just said. Was it PI? Probably because who knows if our WR makes an acrobatic catch in the corner before the ball sailed out. But we had so many opportunities to play better and didn’t.

We played well for portions of the game, such as the third quarter and in spots during the other quarters. But we need to play third-quarter-well for four quarters. If we did that, we would’ve would’ve won by three TDs at least despite any bad and/or missed calls by the officials.

We also need to remember that McNamara had some terrible throws that should’ve been easy catches for the receivers. So even tho the refs had some questionable calls for us, Michigan had several chances to get points and their QB failed to throw a decent ball. Overall great game and I’m impressed and excited for games and years to come. With that, we need to make sure Gleason stays here. He’s a huge part of the success of the team.
