RE: The NCAA having leverage.
If this is a serious comment it could not be more wrong. The NCAA has been losing power, prestige and authority for about the last 4-5 years. They are getting killed in the courts and Congress laughed at them when they asked for an anti-trust exemption. Two years ago, President Emmert was warning that allowing NIL payments would be an "existential" threat to the NCAA; after getting no help in DC and being unable to pass internal rules, the NCAA announced earlier this year that it would not enforce Bylaw 12, which is 40 pages of legislation defining what pay is allowed and when. They knew they were about to get a court challenge (and lose), so they took the extraordinary step of announcing they were not going to enforce these rules. Same with the transfer portal. the NCAA was the last entity that wanted it -- the portal gives power to the players, which the schools and power brokers do not want to see. But again, these rules were about to get challenged in court and the NCAA would lose. Just look at the amazing, almost unheard of 9-0 US Supreme Court affirmance in the Alston case (unlimited educational payments) and the comments of some the judges that they would have granted the players even more rights had those questions been before the court.
The NCAA cannot stop this runaway train. They're not even trying anymore
