The panic is strong with this fan base. It’s like dealing with my wife when she is stressed. Calm down and let this play out.
I think it’s not panic, more so the fans are upset with Mitch embarrassing us and our everything (the basketball program) you go after your guy, the dude who you’ve been wanting for years and get turned down what do you expect?

The amount of money the university is willing to throw out shows desperation. This is the University of Kentucky and that alone should be enough. The right coach who’s here for the right reasons will end up here.

Because top targets don't want the job. Wright, Oates, and Drew have turned it down

You think Hurley is going to leave his situation to come to Kentucky after they turned it down?? Come on

Our pool now is Smart, Pearl, and Miller. not good for Kentucky

Arrogance and desperation is a bad look for some of these fans for sure. Kentucky will get a coach that can win and will most likely win big. 5 coaches didn't have titles before their time in Lexington and they accomplished that feat. Drew has spent 20 years in one place, that's a tough situation to leave I can imagine. Hurley will have his turn and in my opinion we end up with Billy D, not a bad third choice at all.

Most of the fans balked at the sheet mention of Drew. Now it’s the end of the world, after people convinced themselves he was the only one that would want the job. We still don’t know 100% that he really turned it down. For all we know, Hurley accepted and the offer was withdrawn. He just can’t afford unlucky accept until after their parade. (Not saying that is the case, but it is a possibility). The thought that Drew, or any of the top coaches mentioned are the only ones that can win here, is ridiculous. This program makes the coach, not the other way around. It has been shown, over and over again. Just so long as they don’t have alcohol problems. Take it easy, whoever we get will win, or be gone.

Donovan and Hurley may still be in play. I was ready to be happy with any of Hurley, Billy D, Oats or Scott Drew. Let’s see what unfolds.

There are a lot of good coaches not even mentioned that would be good hires.

I am taking it easy, we can win with anyone. I’m glad it isn’t Drew and now we move on to find an actual competent basketball coach. Leave the leader of the Davidians back home in Waco, let’s go get 9.

Is it politically incorrect to name Foxes now?
Not that I'm aware of. The Marine Corps has a healthy rivalry with the other branches and we have different terms for things. Boot camp vs basic training is another. The Marines say "fighting hole" is a much manlier term than a fox's family home.

You are still speculating as to what happened. As for Oats, he was not even offered. He would have been here in a second had he been. His buy out at Bama was too high and we weren’t going to pay it. So, he politely “withdrew his name”. I still believe there is a chance for Hurley. I think his ego wants him on a bigger stage, where his legacy will mean more. In his area, college sports are of no consequence to anyone but degenerate gamblers. Hold on and see what is happening before you jump out of the plane.

Agree with the OP...relax.

I think the UK brass knows who the coach will be, and we're looking at window dressing right now. You don't just hire a coach without talking to the top names. I predict most will be happy when this is over.

I don't how many are old enough to remember but back in 85 when Hall retired the first choice, Lute Olsen, said no. In 89 the first 2 choices said no (Olsen and Carlesimo). The 3rd choice was the right one: Pitino. Barnhart can't panic like he did when his top choice says no like when Tubby left. Hurley could still be the guy or Donovan. There can't be any knee-jerk decision. I really wish some former players were heavily involved with this decision.

So you will just forget we got turned down by paster Scott? I think this speaks volumes on Mitch, the university need to step in if we don’t get someone we want. If it goes past Hurley and Billy I think it’s time to then look for a new AD

For all you know the offer was pulled from “pastor Scott”. It is quite typical for coaches to make statements like that to save face. There is a very good chance that this was used to help him get a new contract at Baylor. Your opinion is based on pure speculation.

Don't read into my post that I'm a Barney fan. Far from it. Frankly I'm a little relieved that it isn't Drew. The longer this goes the more likely it becomes that Billy D. takes the job. The timing is right.

So you are completely at ease knowing we got turned down by our guy, who also turned down Louisville a few weeks ago? The fact we can’t pull him to Kentucky is embarrassing to the program as a whole
It’s not embarrassing at all you’re talking about a guy who’s been at a place for 21 years and him and his family are very comfortable. No school will ever pull him away. This was probably the closest he will ever be to leaving Baylor

If that's what is going on it's a just ignorant take. Almost every program that goes through a coaching search gets turned at some point. We may get turned down again if we go hard after Hurley and Donovan. That's the nature of hiring in general.

Yes that is it, the coach who agrees to come here should just say "Hey Mitch, I bow before you, this is UK, you do not have to pay me the going rate for a top notch coach, I will coach UK for a couple mill a year, you good with that Mitchie my Boy ?"
LOL, any coach who would do that, we don't want him. NO coach is going to turn down life changing money. They bust their *** to get to the top. UK or ANY top school has to pay to play. This isn't WKU where we can go sign a coach from somewhere, pay him a low salary, and expect top results.

And LOL at the poster who threw in Jay Wright. He doesn't want to coach ANYWHERE. He is enjoying making 4-5 million just to sit in a studio, no pressure or dealing with college hoopla.

Well, you tell me what you wanted Mitch to do? Kidnap him? Hold a gun to his head? All you can do is make an offer
I’d have never called him in the first place, would’ve never looked below Billy or Hurley. The fact he made his bed with paster Scott, got tucked in and ready just for Scott to leave him hanging is embarassing no matter which way you try to spin in
