Who ya got?
It would be fun to see Koepka win. I’d really like to see Sergio win this thing.
How about Phil opening +5? Who would’ve thought choosing to lose 15 pounds in a week right before the Open via fasting and laxatives wouldn’t be good for your game. He’s got to much swirling in his head to play good golf right now.

They say you can't win it on the first day

but you can sure lose it.

McIllroy, first shot on #1 was OB, and then had another penality stroke. Anyway he started off with a 9.

Looks like Tiger’s back

Is not right. British press saying he doesn’t look healthy walking around.

It is convenient, but he’s been noticeably favoring the back for some time. Not surprising.

Between that, the travel, and his general poor play lately, I’m guessing it’s now a safe bet that he will not be in Memphis next week. Dammit

Have to build in an excuse for Tiger not hitting fairways.
The back is always a convenient one.

Convenient or accurate? And can it not be both?

The guy has back problems- its probably gonna be this way for life. Nobody gave Fred Couples this much **** for his back issues.

I understand where you are going....but all due respect, Fred Couples isn't anywhere near Tiger (and I know you know that). Just is what it is....he's Tiger and he's going to get the ****...because he's Tiger. Right, wrong, or indifferent.

This coming from a big Tiger fan. If he or Speith aren't in it...then I'm lacking in interest.

One could argue a missed cut would make him want to play. But I'm with you, I don't see it happening anyway.

Totally get it- its Tiger and he was the best to ever play for a decade, so his fall from greatness is a fun topic for some to focus on.

Its just absurd to see someone claim back pain as being 'convenient'. First off, its incredibly inconvenient, obviously. Secondly, its a legitimate reason to struggle in a game where you twist your spine at great speeds over and over.

So how many of the “Top Players have had back problems? Does every golfer end up crippled by the twisting of the body to hit a ball as far as they can? Do the “Average” golfers who still win millions over their career, also end up with disabling back problems? Is it his swing mechanics and if so, how is his swing mechanics different from other successful golfers?

How many of the former golf greats( we know them by name) had severe back problems and continued to play?

If you have a longer swing and let your front heel come off the ground, like Phil, you can play a long time without back problems.

1- So how many of the “Top Players have had back problems? 2- Does every golfer end up crippled by the twisting of the body to hit a ball as far as they can? 3- Do the “Average” golfers who still win millions over their career, also end up with disabling back problems? 4- Is it his swing mechanics and if so, how is his swing mechanics different from other successful golfers?

5- How many of the former golf greats( we know them by name) had severe back problems and continued to play?

Answers to your 5 questions below.

1- 19.83% of top players have had back problems.
2- no
3- sometimes
4- part swing and part genetic/chance/nature. Swing changes thru the years have been an attempt to lower the chances of back flareups.
5- 19.83% of former golf greats had severe back issues but still played.

Jack might disagree...

I'm kinda the same way but there are some of the new guys that are fun to watch.

I just don't get into the other majors as much as the Masters. Not sure why, but I really like watching a tourney there. It's a shame they don't have another tournament there late in the year. Maybe a round of the playoffs?

Jack might disagree...

For sure. I simply dont think Jack in his prime placed in the late 90s and early 00s would have dominated as much as Tiger. And I think Tiger, placed in the 60s and 70s, would have won just as often as Jack.
Jack had longevity on his side- he won majors for a span of almost 25 years, which is why I also stated that for the decade I am referring to(97ish thru 08ish), Tiger was the best to have played.

He not only didn't look healthy, he looked disinterested, especially on Day 1. Looked like he didn't want to be there.

He played well today, just not well enough. Missed the cut by a couple of strokes, I think, after a 78 +7 on the first day. McIlroy did the same.

Sounds like a debate on Tiger vs Jack

In their prime, personally I'd take Jack.

Using the same equipment. (there has been a considerable change)

--------------------------

There is a good tournament underway, should be fun.

Last Major of the year.

It’s easy to say that without seeing a man strike a ball with inferior clubs to the present players. Look Tiger in his prime was awesome but for anyone to dismiss Jack is , well just stupid.

Everyone else around Jack played with the same stuff and shorter courses too. And no one is dismissing Jack, but Tiger, in his stretch, was supreme.

From 1999-2009, Tiger won 64 tournaments and 13 majors. There has never been and will never be a decade of dominance like that in golf again.

Jack might disagree...

No he wouldn’t. As a matter of fact, jack was saying that very thing in Tigers prime.

But if jack did disagree, he would be wrong.

Tiger won a us open on a broken 17ing leg. There isn’t a golf accomplishment in the same hemisphere as that.

Was pulling for Westwood. Would have been nice to see him pull a Darren Clark but he’s done now.

Yeah, me too. It would be nice to see Westwood win a major after all these years. Tomorrow's going to be an interesting day if the weather comes in as predicted, so there's no telling what might happen. Most likely, the earlier their tee time, the better they will play. NBC coverage starts at 4 a.m. Central. Golf Channel starts around midnight.

Fowler's tee shot on #one, bounces off of a spectator, and goes OB, ….what a break.

And now, JB Holmes hooked his out

A friend of mine was at the Open today. He mentioned it was crazy. He and his wife were wearing rain gear and had umbrellas. He didn't know how the pros played with that wind being ridiculous.
