agree...if RU does not win by at least 40, they didnt play well....CCNY lost last year to Yeshiva 92-66, I have no idea if Yeshiva is any good but if they can beat CCNY by 36 I am sure RU can do better
If you took the top intramural players at Rutgers and made an All Star team, my guess is they would beat CCNY.
Actually 1950 or 2017. CCNY won the NCAA and NIT (you could play in both back then) in 1950 and then the scandal broke in 51.Prediction depends if it's 1951 or 2017...
Huge blow out. Sounds like this team has no business being on the schedule
I expect a blow out but how does this help our team. Hopefully, the St John's game remains fresh in their minds as far as competition.
In the NCAA that year CCNY beat Kentucky 89-50; Kentucky's state flag flew at half-mast in reaction to the shock of their all-white team being beaten by blacks and Jews. Adolph Rupp, the Kentucky coach referring to CCNY sneered before the game " I'd never coach a team with kikes and blacks." The game was played at Madison Square Garden in front of a sell-out crowd. (Madison Square Garden Was CCNY's home court)
OK? As in why did I post that? Since we are talking about CCNY, it's a piece of interesting trivia. HBO made a movie about the team called: CITY DUMP: THE STORY OF THE 1951 CCNY BASKETBALL SCANDAL
I predict JK and I will be in a different season ticket location for the first time in almost a quarter century!
The Infamous 1951 CCNY Point Shaving Scandal
>It actually all started before CCNY’s championship season, in the summer of 1949. At that time, college basketball players were often recruited north, to the Catskills, for “summer jobs.” The Catskills was a very popular resort area at the time and there were plenty of jobs to be had for college kids, from waiter to busboy to bellhop. But the real reason ballplayers went there – and were recruited there – was for the basketball. As entertainment for the wealthy vacationers, highly competitive games were played between the players, usually including the best basketball players in the country. In fact, Wilt Chamberlain famously played in the Catskills around this time (and, of course, dominated).
At first, the point shaving at these summer games was rather innocent. A chef at a hotel would bet with his fellow employees on a final score of a game. He would tell a few of the players if they kept the scoring to a certain point (i.e. win by 8, not 25), he would make sure they ate steak and lobster all week. Soon, this evolved into something a lot more nefarious, perpetuated by a defensive-minded guard named Eddie Gard.<
