This is my nightmare scenario- Cal takes the Texas job and takes next years insane class with him and makes Texas a title contender overnight, similar to what he did here with Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe.
We're left an entirely empty tank with a 5th choice of head coach.

If he wins it we congratulate him and move forward with our program. It's not about him anymore, its about what is best for restoration of the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

If you think Cal makes any team a title contender after the **** he has mailed in over the last 7 years, you haven't been paying attention

I mean at the end of the day there’s nothing we can do to stop him from walking away. He won’t be fired with the combination of next year’s class and the buyout, so the only way he’s gone is if he walks. And again, nothing we nor the administration can do to stop that.

I mean I guess Barney could give him more money but if Barney goes into a bidding war over Cal now…

Another thing- next year’s class is no where near the Wall class in terms of talent. Neither Wagner nor Dilly are anywhere close to Wall. Probably closer to Bledsoe in terms of talent but I struggle saying that because Bledsoe was underrated and under-ranked coming out of HS. Bradshaw is closer to Orton than he is to Cousins in terms of talent and no where near either in terms of a college ready body.

Another thing to note: he won’t have a Patrick Patterson level player to lead those young freshmen. PPat is criminally underrated on that team. Absolute unit who developed an outside shot, savvy junior who excelled as a leader, and plenty of talent proven by him returning to UK, turning down the NBA lottery TWICE to get his degree for momma Patterson.

On top of all that- Cal would have to try again in order to win. I don’t see that happening.

my nightmare is Cal stays, brings in this team and then we hear about how young they are, trust the process, have patience, we aren't stealing his joy and finally, even though we came up short in wins, these boys get to reach their dreams of playing professional ball after only 8 months of wearing the UK uniform.

We’re Kentucky. We'll get a good coach. These days with the transfer portal and NIL, a rebuild won’t take long at all. Rip off the band aid and start fresh as soon as possible. This nonsense is stale and clearly not working.
We'll get a good coach? How'd that go last coaching search before Cal?

If he still uses the methods he does it doesn’t matter who he recruits

I do agree however

with the contract, with the class coming in

Barnhart just wants this year over with, let Cal take his best shot next year and then move into the ambassador position where he'll quietly go away and collect $900K a year until 2029, which no one will ever talk about again.

No matter how bad it gets - but at the same time, the worse it gets, the more the attention shifts from Cal to how bad Barnhart has managed all of this. I don't think Barnhart survives.

This mentality makes no sense to me. I’m sure they will all be great pros, but none of the recruits you mention have played a minute of college ball.

I think there is an almost zero chance Cal takes that group to a title, whether at UK or Texas. On the other hand, a new coach can hit the portal and could possibly put a better team on the floor than that year 1, which we have seen countless times. Maybe not better pro prospects, but college players who can play in a system.

Cal didn’t take Wall,Cousins, or Bledsoe to the title and he sure as hell won’t take next years class to the title. No matter where he is .

You forgot about us losing a very tight game in the elite 8. The Cal defenders come back out full force saying “Oh well, it’s a crapshoot!!! Swaggy Cal is back!!”

Cal acts like he’s leaving for the Lakers, Mitch gives Calipari a 100 million dollar buyout.

Cal takes another job. His recruits reenroll there, which is met with much excitement to the fanbase. Cal does okay with a Sweet 16 finale with the great class. Cal coasts another 5 years with little fanfare. This is the likely outcome.

TLTR...we will be fine.

What have you seen recently that makes you think Cal is going to take that class and make them title contenders at Texas, let alone UK? lol
He hasn’t gotten four of the top ten recently. So we don’t really have anything recent for comparison.

The guys coming are nowhere near the top ten guys we got in the past. No even close. Don't get me wrong, they're good recruits, but they're the best in a very weak class. Sadly, 2023 Cal is nowhere near 2012 Cal either, so we might as well move on if possible

I don’t wanna lose the class either but does anyone think he can win with it? Why would his style work at another school but not here? He’s done for until he changes and that isn’t happening.

There’s a significant difference between the situations. Wall, Cousins and Bledsoe had not yet officially signed with Memphis, so it was real easy for Cal to re-direct them to UK.

It wouldn’t be so easy with this class. They’ve already signed their letters of intent, which means Cal can’t take them unless UK expressly allows it.

Not gonna happen so don’t worry. Cal couldn’t take an nba all star team to final exams much less a tournament finals.
